i had a guy come and check my cooling system.he was friendly and seemed to know what he was talking about.he checked the system and said what he thought was wrong.i luckly asked a lot of questions/watched what he did.he got it working with a little capacitor and it worked but made a squeel.he said the squeel was a high dollar item and i was better off buying another unit for $4000-$5000.i asked for a quote on everything and while he was doing the quote i went in and looked on my computer,i found the one part that ended up being the problem for 50 times cheaper.when i went outside again i overheard him talking to someone about something like "alright ill try and convice him he needs a new system".the next day i found the part(capacitor)at a local store fixed the problem.the squeel came from the fan needing oil,his quote for a fan was 5 times as much as one costs and both fixes are easy.its obvious they prey on people who really need to cool their house and do not know much about hvac.

Pros: none that i seen.

Cons: lies, veryy high prices, just like a mechanic saying things are wrong that are not just to con you.

I was in a networking group with Rick Patterson (owner) so when I had a thermostat problem he was the first person I called.
Pattersons installed a thermostat in October, it quit working in May. In October they charged me $150 to install one. In May they charge me $350, when I asked why the differenc they said that they had no record of ever doing any work for me. Not true. Rick Patterson said that I would have to find the October paper work and prove it to him. I couldn't find the paperwork.

I checked around with 4 other plumbing and heating businesses who said that they would charge around $150 to $175 for the same job.

I just read another post on a different web-site, where they claimed not to have records of that person being a prior customer either.......interesting. Seems like when you question charges or warrenties, they can't find your prior records.........

Unethical for sure. Don't do business with these guys.

I had problems with a water heater in my new house. The receipt I had from the previous owner had a 10 year parts and labor which was bought in 2002. I read through the entire receipt, fine print and all, to ensure that no where did it state that the warranty was non-transferrable, which it did not, so I called Patterson Plumbing and Heating and asked for service. Joe the technician, the receptionist and the owner refused to honor the warranty. Joe also told me that a 10 year parts and service warranty did not exist on any water heater they installed, but how they will offer an extended warranty to ensure a sale which is probably what the technician did knowing full well that it wouldn?t be covered. I found this very disturbing, not to mention this could be considered fraud! I then called Rick Patterson, the owner. He very bluntly says they will not honor the extended warranty since I was not the purchaser of the water heater. He smugly goes on to explain that ?everyone? knows that an extended warranty is non-transferrable. I guess I?m not everyone. For a company who?s mission statement is ?To Build Peace of Mind in Ourselves and Our Customers, and the Community Through Integrity and Proficiency.? I would have expected respect and ethical treatment. The definition of Integrity is the firm adherence to a code of moral values. I don?t feel they acted at all within their statement. I wasn?t asking them to replace my water heater. I was asking them to honor the warranty and repair the broken parts. I don?t feel like I was being unreasonable.
