i have tried this restaurant for few times now.and i can say that they have really great food, fantastic service and great staff members.i love their lunch buffet(i can eat it everyday if i don't have short lunch break,it's lil far from my office).but i don't mind going there for dinner.it's not too pricey.in about $20 you can enjoy a fulfilling dinner including appetizer, main cource and dessert.i really recommend this place if you want to have good indian food in denver area. you will love it.

I've never experienced such a horrible bout of food poisoning as I did by eating at Star of India. The colleagues I met for lunch also experienced food poisoning from this food. It is five days after my horrific episode and my system is still not back to normal. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT. Better safe than sorry.

I have been to many indian restaurants in denver area. But there are not too many good places where you can taste real blend of indian spices.I was at Star Of India about couple nights ago to celebrate my daughter's b'day.i've been to this restaurant 2-3 times and i liked it.From service to food, everything was superb,great...
Very nice decor with indian traditional paintings hanging on walls. Staff was very friendly.Owner Gill gave us a tour of kitchen and showed us tandoori oven.overall we had good time at this place.we would love to go back for dinner at Star.

Pros: ambience,food,great service

In the name of business these guys are cheating people and are delivering substandard products ie bad food. Also I have heard of several cases of him exploiting people for work.
I have several bad experiences with this arrogant, ignorant and rude owner who is everything but professional.
PS:And no I am not another restaurant owner. I am someone who has seen him closely .

I met this chubby owner at a party and seems like hes got more attitude than quality. The man is short tempered , arrogant and that reflects in his food.He assumes that the food is great but sadly it is not.
The new management is horrible. No professionalism

I regret that despite opinions from friends and posts here, I went to this restaurant just to see . I was curious

The restaurant is a complete disaster. No professionalism of any sort.
Neither is the taste good , nor is that ambience or the attitude of staff. I would never recommend this place to any one, especially first timers

Looking at all the hate reviews and the posts made in defense, i am compelled to write an unbiased review here to see if my opinion helps...
Where when there is smoke, there definitely has to be fire.
That being said, let me elaborate further....
I have been a resident of denver for the past 30 years and being a food lover, I have been to many restaurants in and around denver.
I am a huge fan of ndian food because I like spicy food. As a result I have tasted many Indian dishes from tandoori to panir .I am probably one of those non Indian persons who knows a lot about Indian cuisine!
Having lived here so long and being a fan of Indian food, I visited this restaurant 4 years ago and I was excited because the location was convenient and the food was genuinely delicious. I visited once in 2-3 months and it truly lived to its name "a star".My husband and me were impressed with what we got for our money.
We moved to Boulder little over 2 years ago and started exploring other restaurants around that area so our visits to this one was pretty rare. Infact I did not find an opportunity to be here for quite a long time.

I met one of my Indian friends recently and she did not have one good thing to tell me about this restaurant. I realized that lately, some thing has been going on that had made people talk ill and write bad reviews.I
decided to check it out myself and see how true the accusations of the food being bad and the owner being a drunk.
About 15 days ago I visited the restaurant and must say what I got now was totally different from what I got a couple of years ago. I did not get prompt service, I did not get the great food they once had, worse , I got a cold response from the hosts who once were so polite and friendly.
I have no clue if there is a drinking problem here with any one because I was there as a customer and not an inspector but to be sure enough, people have certainly changed and the standard has substantially dropped.
thanks

this is my favourite restaurant since i moved to parker town.never had any problem with their staff, service or owner.i think he is very decent guy.i just read these reviews which says owner is drunk n drinking during the day time n all.first of all i think this is none of our bussiness that who is drinking at what time of the day.this seems like some kind of jealousy to the owner of this place, and seems like someone posting these reviews by different id names.i always go here to enjoy the real touch of indian food n always loved it.this is a family bussiness and someone is always there from the family to make sure that costomers are happy.but i was so dissappointed to see these bad reviews on this site.i think whoever is posting all these reviews ,he just go there to check out the owner that what is he doing?heheheheh.........
i just want to say if they are that bad, then why this restaurant is here from past 12 years?
well this is a great place and i will definitely go back............love the mango lassi...yum yum yum

The food at this restaurant was very flavorful, and mild in spiciness. Their lunch buffet consisted of tendoori chicken, bamati rice, vegetable korma, chicken and potato curry, dal, pakora, and other items. The food was great, but not much of a desert selection. The service was also very good, and our plates were cleared as soon as we set them aside on the table. You dine to the sound of running water and soft Indian music - very pleasant. I will be be coming back soon!

I actually read some of the reviews here before deciding to check it out myself and what I found out was that some reviews that had more negatives to say werent actually baseless . This restaurant IS pretty overrated and the food is not some thing I would recommend to Indian food lovers and a definite No for people who want to try it for the first time. Some one here is right about the staff too. Pretty ignorant and a seemingly indifferent attitude towards the customers. I would however want to give this one more shot coz i saw one customer happy with his tika masala.

Wow cant believe when some one abuses customer service in todays competitive business , especially restaurant business.
I was at this restaurant not too long ago with my wife and the only memorable good thing about our visit was the water which was rushed to our table as soon as we settled into a booth.
The food by all standards is mediocre(I have been to many indian restaurants across the world) and the prices for some of the items are ridiculous.

The staff is pretty inexperienced and the owners indifferent attitude makes it worse furthermore. I dont want to rant or bring a bad reputation to these guys by writing this nevertheless, i want to use this opportunity through here and express and share my experience

The Star has been my favorite restaurant almost since the first day I tried it - and my wife and I eat there virtually weekly. I do not understand the vitriol of many of the postings here. Sounds like just so much jealousy - either by competing restaurant owners or their lackeys. To be sure, a restaurant can't please everyone all the time, but I, personally, have never been disappointed here. The owners, Gar, and his wife, Janneth, have always taken exceptional care of us, and I've noticed their dealings with other customers while I've been in attendance - they strive to ensure their customers are happy and satisfied. To call him a 'arrogant drunk' is simply too far off the mark to adequately refute. In my experience, it is unfounded and totally untrue. The wait staff has some turnover, so there may be some 'confusion' during ordering and service, but not to the extent it diminishes the experience - nor do they 'rush you out the door'. We've always been able to enjoy a leisurely meal - in fact, contrary to some have written, there may take a little extra wait to get your check! I will admit I am a relative novice with Indian Cuisine, but that which I've had has always been the best here. We are particularly fond of their tomato soup, chicken tika korma, chicken vindaloo, tandoori shrimp (and the tandoori mixed grill), chicken masala and garlic naan. We highly recommend this restaurant to everyone and routinely introduce our friends to it - to great reviews, I must add. If you wish to try something outside the norm of the American diet, this would be the place to go. Don't be intimidated by the unfamiliar names/food - the staff will be happy to explain what is on the menu and give you their recommendations.

Star of India is the best Indian restaurant and has been in business for about ten years and i am one of those people that goes there since.voted bets Indian restaurant numerous times .I have to say that you all should go and try it for yourself because they serve food and love.Iagree with the previous review that there is a jealousy issue going on with other restaurants or certain individuals regarding the fact that they own four and are opening five more.Their family has been doing restaurants for twenty years and slander cannot hurt them and i feel if there is ever a problem, talk to the owner and your problem would be corrected in the most generous manner.

My friend and I had food at this restaurant and I must say the food was nice, though I would not rate it as the best....
I liked the items in the buffet and had a nice time. But I observed that the staff were trying to rush us up and make us leave fast . It was pretty wierd and we felt like being fed with free food.

We had just started eating and in less than 5 minutes, the check was on our table.I abandoned the idea of having an extra item i was about to order because i felt uncomfortable to ask the people who wanted us to leave rightaway.

I have been to many restaurants in denver and i will rate this one as a mediocre overall experience but decent food which again, is nothing to boast of. I saw the latest reviews here on city search after my visit and i see that oflate, the restaurant has picked up a bad reputation.. I hope my feed back helps.

Cons: service/atmosphere

I was at Star Of India last month with my family and I enjoyed the shrimp tandoori and the buffet.
However, I noticed that the service was not upto the mark and the servers/owner around made constant remarks about customers and laughed among themselves. I was shocked to hear a rather derogatory comment by the owner himself and my parents who heard that too, were embarassed.
Though the food lived upto my expectations, I did not like the atmosphere and there was absolutely no privacy at all. The staff treated us like ATMs and were waiting for us to pay up and leave . I left with a nice dinner but a disappointing overall experience.......

I had been to the indian restaurant "star of india" on a weekend with a friend of mine and must say the service and the food both ,were pretty pathetic.
The waiters were too slow in their service and the food smelled wierd and stale.
Upon that , when I asked the people about the stale food, they behaved very indifferently and showed no consideration what so ever (offering a replacement item or even a decent apology).
I will probably suggest all my friends not to go there. If you still want to go, be prepared for sub standard food and an arrogant staff who know nothing about managing a business.

I tried Star of India's lunch buffet today with a friend from India who has been there before and loves it. The food and service were both excellent. Be sure and try the shredded tandori chicken in the yogurt sauce. I loved everything I had, and it's a nice touch that they serve warm naan to your table. I can't wait to go back for their regular menu and for their vegetarian buffet on Wednesday nights.

I found this resturant online here on city search, I was a little worried because I came from Washington state and I already had a special resturant that I liked to visit. This is the best of the best and the cream of the crop! I have never had Indian food this damn good! I would reccomend the Garlic Naan with the Chicken Makhini, it is by far the best thing I ever had... The service is superb and the ambiance supirior. Needless to say I found a new favorite.

It's so great to leave a restaurant thinking, "that was great". That's just what Star of India delivers. The service is excellent - I can't say enough. The owners/waiters are attentive and quick to make yummy recommendations and even suggest mixing two dishes into one so you get to try both. The food was at our table in mere minutes and was delicious! The lamb kebabs are excellent as is the chicken kurma and the garlic naan. A great quick (if needed) dinner where you leave full, satisified, well-treated, just a little adventurous, and no worse for the wear in the wallet. I highly recommend it!

We were served Chicken Tikka Masala (spicy chicken served in masala sauce, rich and tangy - served in a metal dish with a candle under to keep warm), he also brought us a side dish of just the masala sauce in case we wanted more. We also got Lamb Bita Kabobs (served off the kabob with lots of peppers, onions and stuff) which arrived at the table still sizzling! A huge platter of Basmati rice with bay leaves also came along, and our waiter told us to jusk "ask for more rice whenever we want it"...unlimited rice - nice! For bread we tried the "garlic and butter Naan" (aieeeeee! melt in your mouth!)
