I've been a freshwater fish keeper for decades and over lots of thought and time, have finally decided to make the jump to a nano reef tank. This store is near my home, so I dropped in to have a look around and get some newbie advice. I was completely honest with my inexperience and found the staff to be patient and helpful. I mostly talked to the older gentleman, he definitely has a strong personality, but was friendly and courteous. I was completely comfortable in Liquid Kingdom.

Reading some of these reviews I have to wonder about sensitive egos, or people not willing to research on their own and expect lots of hand holding... those who completely depend on others' advice and don't take ownership of their actions keeping marine fish may not be happy shopping here, methinks...

Granted this is just a preliminary review and I will update as necessary when I have further dealings with these folks in the coming weeks.

This place has far and away given the worst customer service I have received at any aquarium store on the front range. On my first visit here a couple of years ago despite there being 3 employees in the store and only one customer other than me, I couldn't get anyone to stop what they were doing to help me. Finally I went to the woman at the register and asked for tips about removing hair algae from a reef tank she suggested taking everything out of the tank, bleaching it and starting over. Needless to say I wasn't keen to kill my liverock and coral. I visited 3 other stores which all gave me advice that worked and didn't wipe my tank.

About 2 months ago I went back to talk to them about ideas for stocking and maintaining a 180 gallon reef I just set up in my living room. The same woman was at the counter (I think she may be an owner) and when I asked her what it would cost for her to order some species of fish they didn't have in stock she accused me of trying to use her knowledge so I could buy cheaper fish and coral on the internet. Even when I explained that I prefer to select livestock from the tank where I can see the color and health of the animal and that I was also asking them to maintain the tank (a service I am now paying $200/month for) so they would know if I was buying fish from the internet she just continued to rant about how hard it is to stay in business when everyone goes to the internet for their fish. Despite living less than a mile from this store I go to exotic aquatics and aqua imports in boulder or fish den and reef and pond in Denver rather than deal with the lazy and self interested service people at this store

I found out about liquid kingdom about 2 years ago and I haven't gone any where else! There selection of 30 $ corals alone is worth the trip alone! They do indeed know what there talking about when it comes down to their product. If the want to sell things in a pair, it's for the animals best interest, if you want your pet to be happy you should spend the money don't you think? Sadly I haven't been able to go to the fish store in 5 months Ive been really busy! I'm starting to Joan's!

My husband & I have been customers of Liquid Kingdom for over 10 years. They take a personal interest in our tank, its occupants, and our ability to handle the tank. The owners have always been very helpful, understanding, and patient with us. Every time I go in I take a water sample because I know I will not be sold a fish if the water is out of whack. These owners are responsible resellers of live creatures but always leave it up to us to fix what might be wrong, then get the fish. Our tank has always thrived and it has been a wonderful investment and partnership with Liquid Kingdom.

The store does have alot of different types of fish, I do find that the couple that works there do know there stuff but are very rude and act like you are nothing to them! I also feel the prices they charge are very high! I can do better price wise in other places, they over charge. I have found the PetCo across the street has good Knowledge as well. I also feel Sherman Tank offers just as good as fish, but much better pricing and he is fair and talks to you and very helpful staff.

Decided to visit this shop since I did not even know it existed so close to my home. There selection of fish and shrimp etc was ok. This place could be so much better if the folks working there were a lot nicer and actually were knowledgable in customer service as they were in there products. I overheard a customer complaining about brown algae or some issue he wa having with his tank. Nobody knew what the hell he was talking about. Seems like one of the workers (older female) was spending more energy telling a 3 year old to keep her hands off the glass vs actually taking the time to help this fellah out. Seems like it would make since to say hello to a customer when they walk in since this place is so small and you cannot miss anyone that walks in. It was almost like they were annoyed customers were walking in. I would not recommend this place. They should at least put the prices up so people can see them. This is not a car dealership where you can just change the price when you please. Word of advise. Without your customers there is no business.

I shop at a number of places for my salt water habit. I find LQ to have the healthiest fish. The owners have always taken the time to explain the pros and cons of which fish goes with what, but they do expect the buyer to have some common sense and to do a little research themselves. The married owners have their own no-nonsense approach, but it is unique and fun. At times, they will refuse to sell a newly arrived fish - they want to make sure of what they sell. They don't sell unhealthy fish. The fact that I can't keep star fishes alive is a product of my lacking abilities, not the health of the fish. At times, they will insist that they test your water. They they want to ensure that water in your tank is not unhealthy. They want their fish to live. They care. A maternal thing, I suppose.

I've shopped most the stores in town at one time or another. I found this store to be the best in both knowledge and quality of fish & coral. Morons like the bleeched coral guy below almost always have themseves to blame for their salkwater ignorance, like adding fish too early, then trying to pass the blame elsewhere. Bleeched coral? I bought a couple dead corals from LQ with no problems. That's plain dumb that it would wipe out a tank. This is also the best store for not selling you stuff that won't work in your tank. But don't take my word for it. Don't beleive what reviewers here write, go check out the place for yourself and make up your own mind.

Contrary to some of the other reviews here, I got no interview for my first time in. I just happen to notice them and thought I would take a look. Ended up buying a dead coral and a Hermit crab. After putting the coral in my aquarium, 2 days latter my fish started dieing and I opened it up to see what I could do and all I got was a greeting of chlorine (bleach). After contacting the Liquid Kingdom about what happened I was then told that they chemically bleach there coral, and were sorry but there was nothing they could do. They would refund the money for the coral if I brought it back. Well I offered to pay there cost on replacement of the fish, but they said they weren't responsible. Only after I sent a letter to them and the BBB I get an other to help find out what happened.

These folks aren't the most personable (neither is Neptune's) but they do know their stuff and they like to make sure they have an idea of how much you know about what you're buying. Since we're talking about LIVING CREATURES, in my book, that's called being responsible.

They've been polite and responsive to my specialized needs (providing the extra oxygen of larger bags and holding the purchase until closing, because I live up in the mountains and have a long drive back.) The fish and corals for sale looked great, and they had a good selection of these, and less common inverts. Prices were competitive with other quality stock stores. We're nowhere near an ocean so saltwater tends to run high in these parts.
No complaints here, except I wish they would shut the back door when they go out to smoke so it wouldn't filter into the store. I have asthma.

OBSERVATION ABOUT OTHER POSTS: I learned back in the 70s when I first got into saltwater, not to buy seahorses. People who buy seahorses need to keep a constant supply of brine shrimp and other micro-fauna hatching or the horses don't feed properly. It means you need to start a hatching daily and keep multiple cycles going. These guys are really, really hard to keep and very time consuming to maintain the proper size of live food for them. Unless you are a stay-at-home with hours to spend on your aquarium EVERY day, you shouldn't attempt seahorses. Blaming a store for the death of a species as difficult to maintain as hippocampus is totally absurd. You've only proven that the owners are correct to quiz customers so much about their levels of expertise.
I pity the poor seahorses.

These guys are dedicated hobbyists who love their pets. When ever they get a new customer, they do a little interview to gauge their experience level and ask to test their tank water. This helps ensure the tank will support the fish the customer wants, and when we were amateurs, we really appreciated their advice. At this altitude, it's harder to keep fish healthy (thinner air and longer shipping), so they actually quarantine their stock before selling it. It is misleading to say that their sickly looking quarantined fish are typical of what they sell. They've only sold us healthy fish, and have told us we couldn't buy a fish we wanted if they thought it wasn't eating well enough. We really appreciate the extra care. Their prices are higher because of these factors. It's true that they don't like unattended children running around the store, but we make our little girls behave in stores, and the owners flirt with them all the time. I'd give them five stars if they'd keep the aptasia under control.

I bought 2 seahorses form Liquid kingdom in broomfield 2 months ago. I payed 75.00 a piece for them and they were supposed to be a breeding pair. Needless to say they are both dead now, they refuse to refund my money, and the lady up front swindled me on plastic plants that were WAY OVER PRICED. If you want fish that die prematurely, go here.

I really wanted some seahorses, so I went here because they are like one of the only places to get anything saltwater. 1st offf they are only open 3 days a week and have weird hours. They are a married couple who own it. The wife is VERY rude and she will decide whether or not you are suitable to sell to or not. That is not right. She told me she wanted to test my tank's water even though I was going to pay for the seahorses (which were $75.00 a piece by the way and she would only sell them in pairs. I think they are after people to make money and I must say. The seahorses were defective. I think they were sick fish. I don't think I would ever go here again. Be careful what you buy and how much you pay! My seahorses did die by the way, a few months later, they were supposed to live many years???

Liquid Kingdom has a great location, as there aren't any other specialty saltwater/cichlid stores in the north Denver/Metro area. Unfortunately, the location is the best thing. Every salt tank has aptasia (pest anemones you don't want in your tank), and it doesn't appear they make any attempt to get rid of them. The selection is ok, although I have seen quite a few cases of ick, and those were really bad.
The staff isn't overly friendly, and they DON'T like kids in the store. I drive the extra 15 minutes to one of the stores in south Denver.
