Smoked with hickory over a charcoal fire, the chef at Wolfe's Barbecue knows that when it comes to barbecue, simplicity is best. Patrons don't have to fumble with a litany of choices at Wolfe's--just pick your meat or veggie, and wait for it to be charred to perfection. Be a hit and bring some to your office party or potluck.

A good lunch counter place with one guy behind the counter who looks like he's been here since the dawn of time. The BBQ sandwiches are to die for, but you'll have to wait 20 minutes minimum. Ordering ahead is your best bet if you're in a hurry.

Charming Owner, Great Brisket
by HNDTJG
After reading reviews, I knew my family and I had to try this joint while vacationing in Denver. Tried the chicken, ribs and brisket. The chopped brisket in the barbeque sauce was by far the best. Great smokey taste, the barbeque sauce was yummy. The ribs were okay. A bit fatty but overall pretty good. The sauce surely made them better! As noted by other reviewers, the bread is really good. Mr. Wolfe stated that it came from a bakery that is involved with some type of farmers co-op...really a pretty neat story. The carrot salad left something to be desired...overall bland. The cole slaw was pretty good. Not sure how the beans were..didn't get a review from family members on how they were. The overall environment provides a great experience and the company from Mr. Wolfe is great as well. You sure don't find many restaurants anymore that are a one man show...a very unique experience.
Pros: Chopped Bisket and the bread, Mr. Wolfe
Cons: carrot salad

Nice Man, Horrible BBQ!
by thedenverduo
We seen this place driving by while having a craving for BBQ so we decided to try it. The man working, I assume the owner, was very nice and talkative. The atmosphere was good for a small business, there were all kinds of awards on the wall, and so we were expecting great food. The meat was dry, I mean DRY, like it was cooked in the oven. The meat did not taste smoked or really taste like anything. The sauce was mediocre but I have had better from the grocery store. Even the vinegar based coleslaw and tasteless potato salad was no good. The only thing worth while was the bread and butter and a pickle. After reading other reviews on-line, it just isn't clear why we had such an awful experience here. Maybe we came on a bad night or maybe these other reviewers haven't had good BBQ. If you have had good BBQ in your life before, do NOT go here. My dad makes better BBQ than this.
Pros: Service
Cons: FOOD

Mr. Wolfe is my BBQ-hero!
by squido
It's been months since I was there, even though I live right down the street. Despite being raised in the south, I really don't eat much BBQ, otherwise, I'd be there more often! Me and a friend wandered in close to closing time. Mr. Wolfe was snarky and direct, which we definitely relate to! I'm fairly sure he thought he were completely drunk, when actually we are just that goofy and were sober. We're the two people walking down 17th laughing at vapid girls in their Friday night pony-heels, falling over nothing, and talking to the squirrels. Anyway, he warmed up a bit when we expressed extreme and excessive interest in his grape soda. The meats were very tasty, the ribs a bit more so than the brisket. I'm pretty weird about brisket though, prefering to name guinea pigs after it rather than consume it. I've heard people mention a long wait for food, but mine is always fast! The hours can be a bit odd, either that or I just have the memory of a sea slug (quite possible). On a side note, I like the direct reply he gave to the reviewer from 2007. A lot of businesses spend so much time sucking up they do their customers an actual disservice by not being honest about the reasons for things that may result in disatisfaction.
Pros: Mr. Wolfe is epic funnies, tasty meats, always some good freak-watching on Colfax!
Cons: Hours do not fit my illogical lifestyle, and obviously it's all about me (heh)

He's the man
by kristacarpenter
This is my first time ever leaving a reivew for anything- Wolfe's deserves it. My husband claims Wolfe's has the best Tofu he has ever had. I claim that they have the best bbq chicken sandwich that I have ever had. I am a very picky eat and my husband strongly suggested this place to me. The frist time I went, I thought it was "ok" but I feel as though I didn't go with an open mind due to my picky eating. But, I gave it another shot and I am now addicted. We both get cravings more often than not and would rather go to Wolfe's on a Friday night for dinner than anywhere else. His prices are excellent and the service is great as well. You can tell that he appreciates his customers and the business that they provide. My husband and his previous co-worker used to call in orders and just hearing where they were calling him, he remembered them and knew exactly what they wanted to order. Everyone that we have taken to Wolfe's has thoroughly enjoyed their dinner. And even though it is all homemade and a one-man show, the food is very consistent.
Just writing this is making me hungry for a bbq chicken sandiwch. Too bad it is Saturday and he's not open.
Me and everyone else I know that have tried Wolfe's would strongly suggest it. GO GET SOME!
Pros: Everything!!!
Cons: only thing- not open on the weekends, or well, 24/7!

Best BBQ in Denver
by jidogrl
This is by far the best BBQ in Denver! I am not sure how it took me so long to disvoer this cap Hill tradition but thank God. Now my favorite place to bring family and in and out of town friends for authentic saucy BBq wirth a personal touch but now I know. So much charm, such great food and a personal friendliness from the owner, delivery or take out I am a fan over and over. Go with the slow cooked beef. I am a BBQ snob and this is SO smoky, spicy and yum.
Pros: Like a good BBq joint should look!

Ribs were one of the worst I tasted, Beef Brisket was better then the ribs
by lisatekla
I don't understand how they get such a high rating. The ribs were lousy, fatty and cool. I have had ribs in many different states and by far these were the worse. Beef Brisket was better then the Ribs but a small portion.
On a other note, while we were there eating a young boy in his teens comes in and asks if they can change a $20.00 bill. The person behind the counter (the way the man talked he sounded like the owner) told the boy that if he wants change it will cost him $2.00. My wife and me both looked at each other, later when we talked we said that we hope all denver businesses are not like this.
I will never visit Wolfe again
Cons: Ribs were not tasty

Best BBQ EVER
by kfcook
If I could eat at Wolfe's everyday I would. Unfortunatly for me I have moved out of state. A reason for me to make a trip back....Wolfe's! The sauce is incredible, the tofu is exquisite, and the atmosphere is perfect. I feel at home, comfortable, and most importantly my stomach is satisfied. All vegetarians should make a point to go to wolfe's. You will become addicted to the flavor and the atmosphere. Everyone have taken there is amazed at how BBQ tofu could be good (that goes for meat eaters!) Thanks Wolfe!
Pros: Excellent food, vegetarian/vegan, cheap!
Cons: none

BBQ Tofu
by jenidneill
yummy goodness! i was a little skeptical when my date brought me here. but he assured me, the bbq tofu is worth the oddity. it was definitely delicious and impressive. most barbeque places don't even try to offer a vegetarian selection, let alone perfect the texture and delicacy of tofu! super satisfied :)
Pros: quick, friendly service
Cons: i hope they are alway, so empty?

Best BBQ in Denver-BY FAR!!!!!!
by engmaninny
Before we tried Wolfe's BBQ we had resolved to the fact that we were never going to get good BBQ in Denver. We are from Texas so we KNOW good BBQ! Wolfe's changed our entire perpective on Denver. We go there antime we are in the Capital Hill area. It is exactly what good BBQ should be; both the friendliness of Mr. Wolfe and the fabulous BBQ! I HIGHLY recommend the beef sausage if you like it HOT! GO THERE, YOU WON"T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pros: Friendly, Location, Great Food

Personable Bones!
by mafiainc
Not only does Mr. Wolfe make everything himself from the healthiest ingredients, he makes himself available to speak with his guests. Excellent bones and outstanding value. A definite must eat while in Denver near Capitol Hill.

Super Sauce, tofu to die for!
by bkermisch
I plan my travel to Wolfe's BBQ hours! It is the most satisfying when you need genuine, slow-cokked meats, fowl and even tofu!
Wish he would expand to my part of the country. You luck folks in Denver, you have Wolfe's BBQ when ever you want it!
Pros: Affordable, Satisfying food, clean

Awesome BBQ!!!
by sneekymonky
Before going to Denver, I did my homework on where to eat and came across Wolfe's reviews in several different places. After reading previous reviews, I knew I had to try it too. I was not let down at all! The BBQ is divine and the service is excellent. Being a vegetarian, I was somewhat sceptical of a BBQ joint, but in talking to Mr. Wolfe, I learned that he had been serving tofu since the day he opened over 20 years ago! This place is a must stop for any vegetarian who craves BBQ, the tofu is awesome and he even offers a vegetarian version of baked beans! So, if you're ever in the Denver area, do yourself a big favor and stop by Wolfe's, you won't be disappointed.
Pros: Inexpensive, Vegetarian options, Friendly service

Awesome food
by newtalski
Incredible. And don't let the location fool you. It's a little hole in the wall but what lies behind those doors can't be beat. The ribs are incredible. As are the beans and potato salad. The brisket sandwhich is also out of this world. Wolfe's deserves to be one of the Top 10 barbecue restaurants in the country! This was our first stop on vacation and we loved it!

Best BBQ I've Ever Had!
by dr_fatsac
I grew up in South Georgia and North Florida where BBQ is life. The most popular person in town was the town's best BBQ joint owner. Funniest part is when a new (better) BBQ joint opened, he became the most popular person in town. So, I think it is safe to say, I know my BBQ.
Wolfe's was fantastic. It is the best BBQ that I've ever had in my life. Everything on his menu is genius! I would drive for hoursto have his BBQ, but luckily I don't have to! Absolutely wonderful. Everyone should try the BBQ tofu! Even if you are a meat lover. It is fantastic
Pros: Inexpensive, TASTE AND FLAVOR!, Mr. Wolfe = friendly
Cons: Small shop, Sometimes busy, Tough to find

super casual with friendly, prompt service; we had walked 6 blocks in 96 degree weather and were immediately given big cups of water while we discussed the menu; pork (which we all had) was soft and delicious; sides were generous and tastey; some may be turned off by the "store-front", plain wood floor atmosphere but several neighborhood guests came in for both eat-in and take-out (a good sign); the whole wheat roll which came with the meal was great; appeared clean & well maintained
Pros: inexpensive, great tasting, good value
Cons: store front look

Great for Vegetarians!
by libbylaine
Emerging from the Southeast where bbq-ed meat products are the only bbq-ed items offered I was so excited when I was introduced to Wolfe's BBQ.
Yeah! It's still one of the few places where I can eat with a conscious. And it's cheap to boot (3.33 for a bbq tofu sandwich).
Pros: Inexpensive, Vegetarian Options
