I came home to my house in the Sloans Lake neighborhood on May 21st and found 3 of my trees that were decades old and 30 feet tall cut to the stump! Rushton Tree Service workers came into my yard and slaughtered my perfectly fine trees, took away my shade and privacy, without even as much as knocking on my door to ask. I never heard of Rushton Tree Service before this date! I called Michelle at Rushton and left messages with her. No one has ever called me back. I had to get a lawyer. Rushton told him that the trees were on Denver city property. I know they are not, so I had to pay for a survey that shows the trees on my property. They now say I meet with them and ok'ed the destruction of my trees. I am not sure what is more upsetting, the trees being cut, or the cover up attempt. If you see Rushton Tree Company in your area, make sure they do not come into your yard and cut down your trees. It sucks.

I have filled a complaint with the Attorney Generals office for Colorado. Their web site is www.coloradoattorneygeneral.gov/ They will keep the complaint on file and act if they get enough complaints.

We contacted this company since they had done work for a family member in the past. The owner showed up 30 minutes early and was irritated that I did not immediately answer the door. A few days later I called the office to ask a follow up question. The lady that answered the phone did not know the answer to my question and was very short with me about following up with my inquiry. We decided to use this company for our tree care needs. When I called back to authorize the work to be done the same lady told me that she would call me in a week to schedule the work. At the end of the following week I called back since I had not heard from her. I was not upset, I just needed to know when they were coming because I was going to take some time off from work. The lady became quite agitated and said that she did not remember telling me she would call me but since I was so pushy, she would schedule my service. After she asked what day I was "demanding" to have them come, she covered up the receiver and I could hear her talking about me to a coworker. At that point I told her that I was very uncomfortable with how rude she was being. She raised her voice and told me that she's not trying to be rude but she deals with clients everyday and how is she supposed to remember what she tells each of them. When I told her that I wouldn't be scheduling service with Rushton because of how rude she was to me, she hung up on me. I was absolutely floored by the encounter with her over the phone. I have never been treated so inappropriately by a company providing a service. After the phone call I found other online reviews detailing similar problems with this same employee. Our dealings with subsequent tree service companies has been delightful and we look forward to giving our money to someone who treats people with kindness and respect.

We had three companies come and give us bids for some tree removal, and Rushton was by far the cheapest. We also had two friends recommend them to us. My only complaint is that they could have communicated with us more clearly about when they would arrive and that the clean-up/stump grinding crew is separate from the tree cutting crew. Other than that, I would recommend them to anyone. They are booked out just as far as any other company in the summer months, but they managed to squeeze us in earlier than originally estimated. Good deal for the price.

Pros: Out bid two other companies

Cons: Could use some work on communication

The gal that gets mentioned in the older reviews... must still work there. HORRIBLE customer service. Rude to say the least! Will not even consider using them if they beat the competition by 50%...and we live in the neighborhood.

After interviewing three tree companies, Rushton's bid came in approximately $1,000 less than the market leaders, which tried to sell me expensive auxiliary services, and contracts on the other trees in my Park Hill yard -- though I'd explained that those other trees had recently been pruned and didn't need service. I've read the other reviews complaining of customer service, and I didn't have those problems, since I dealt primarily with the owner, Mr. Rushton. He did send two different crews, and a different crew completely to do stump removal over a week later; but I didn't really mind -- for $1,000 less, it was not a huge deal to me. They were efficient and courteous and did what they'd promised. They did use a bucket truck, and while they were up there, they took out a dead branch on a neighboring tree at no extra charge. I had no complaints.

Cons: Not fancy, not arborists, per se

Although the crews did their job efficiently and quickly (reason for 2 stars), it's the office person I take issue with). She was condescending and rude. My messages were never returned and was only able to speak to her if I actually got a hold of her. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Here's what happened: I took off work because we have dogs in the yard. Crew did not show up at 8 a.m. I called the office after 8:30 (when they open) & left a mssg. By 10 or 10:30 I still hadn't heard from the office. I called again & talked with "her." Turns out the crew was out sick that day & I'd have to reschedule. My morning was wasted when I could have been at work. When we finally got a reschedule date, crew showed up late. Now, at this time, I had no idea how the crew(s) operated. They have several crews that do different tasks. When the tree cutting crew were done, they left and didn't come back (thought they were at lunch). About 2 hours later, two more people showed up to shred the branches & take the bigger portions out. I finally realized what's going on. After they left, I waited some more for the stump removal. When he didn't show up, I called "her" again & she informed me, oh, well, you know, he won't be able to make it over there today & I'll CALL to let you know a date. Guess what? He showed up the next day (she didn't call me) & I had to leave work and rush home while he took 2 hours to remove the stump. I paid $400 up front & was told I could pay the other in pmts (this was on 8/12). About 2 wks later, got a call asking why I hadn't pd the rest. I explained our agrmt. 2 wks ago I got a bill that said Aug, Sept, Oct pmts = $400, w/$250 remaining. Well, I made the pmt of $400 in Aug. Where's the Sept & Oct bills? When I called "her" to ask, she was just nasty on the phone. They don't work very hard to make their customers happy. Wish I would have read these reviews before I went forward with this company.

Hi my name is Larry and I live in Denver, CO. This has been the worst ever buying experience of my entire life. For starters, the owner Larry Rushton came out on Aug. 14, 2008 and we agreed to do a full trim on each of the two large trees (over 50 feet tall) WITH A BUCKET TRUCK!! The bucket truck would do the job from the front parking area of this home. Mr. Rushton told me it would be done within one and one-half weeks. I waited for a call from Rushton?s office to let me know the exact date of trimming but it never came. I finally called the office and was told they were running late and she would call me a couple days before scheduled day of trimming. I confirmed with her that a bucket truck would be used. Shortly thereafter, the office called and gave me the trim date and with total surprise, they came out WITHOUT A BUCKET TRUCK!! The two workers tried to call the office but no one was there, so they waited until confirmation via cell phone, that they would return with a bucket truck the next day at 8am. The next day no one showed in the morning or called me as to what was going on, so I called the office around noon. The same lady who confirmed appointments told me that the workers were wrong in scheduling it that morning and then she tried to deny the conversation we had earlier in using a bucket truck. WHAT A RUN AROUND I GOT, DISORGAINZATION, LIE AFTER LIE?SO BUYER BEWARE WITH THIS COMPANY!! Others should know how I was mistreated in hopes of preventing anyone having to go through an experience like this one? This company was given two chances to get it right but failed to perform.

I did not even get to the point of engaging Rushton tree service as I was so offended by the owner's lack of professionalism. He showed up unannounced to my home and got angry with me when I was confused about who he was. He stormed off my property when I told him that I, a woman home alone, do not open the door if I do not know who is there. If this is the example the owner sets, I would hate to see how the rest of the employees act.

Reasonable prices, but uneven quality and customer service. Fail to return calls. Service Techs did a very fast & spotty spraying job, "rushing" (pun intended) to the next job I suspect. Serviceable pruning, at best. I would not use them on a very special tree that needs a top-notch prune.

Had the opportunity to view this crew at work last week on neighbor's property. They operate for a large "cherry picker". In the end, the neighbor got a pretty bad hack job, according to my brother-in-law who was visiting from Ohio, where he is, an aborist! He pointed out to me where they made bad choices of limbs to cut (not balancing crown weight), and made bad cuts in the process (good cuts encourage tree healing and prevent decay.) The Rush(ton) cuts (pun intended) were often horizontal (promoting decay) and/or inches from the remaining limp (preventing healing.) The cherry picker operator accidentally broke several branches with the picker arm, and ended up cutting those branches off, too (although they had originally been left as "survivors".) It appeared that the cutter removed some dead branches, then got paid by the branch. The tree needs some significant work (both before and after), so the neighbor pretty much wasted some money. I imagine that if you just need a tree cut down, these guys do a fine job (they were fast, and cleaned up after themselves), but if you have them work on a "keeper" tree, you're going to end up needing a tree cut down sooner, rather than later. The lesson here is to talk to an arborist, or two, and discuss your goals and needs and don't just hire people with expensive equipement.

Pros: Fancy equipment, fast.

Cons: Not tree experts, just tree cutters.
