.

I went in to the look at the place on a Thursday with my husband and we decided to apply for it as we were told it would be a $99.00 security deposit to get us moved in. I wrote the checks for the application fees and $99 deposit. Jane told me the application fee was non refundable but the deposit was just to hold the apartment pending approval from both parties and she assured us she would get back to us the next day.
The next day Jane called me back and said she had run our credit scores and we were not approved for the $99 deposit because our scores were ??not good enough?. She said it would actually be a full months rent deposit to get us in (mind you this is $700 more than the $99 deposit we were anticipating.) We decided since we had already paid the $64 to apply we would proceed with the application.
On Monday my husband asked her if we could use a co-signer to help get the cost of the security deposit down, (which was clearly stated in the application that we could do). At first she said no but when my husband told her we would not be signing a lease for an $800 deposit she changed her mind. She said that we could and she would email our co signer the applications, so we would just go from there.
After this point every communication we attempted with Jane was through voicemail as she stopped answering our phone calls. Our co signer never received the email so the next day (Tuesday) I called Jane to see what the status of our application was. No reply. At this point we were already feeling apprehensive about moving in somewhere when we could neo even get the apartment manager to return phone calls about a lease we had not even signed. I called her again in Wednesday. No reply. Our co-signer never received any emails. Finally on Friday I got a phone call from her stating that since she had not head back from our co signer she wanted to know what we wanted to do about moving in and paying the $800 security deposit. I called her back right away but she did not pick up (of course) and I left her a message saying we had decided to go with another place so I needed that check for our security deposit back, so please call me as soon as possible. She never called me back (of course). At this point we were already filling out applications for another apartment because we got such a sketchy shady vibe from Jane and the Denver House, we did not want to move in there.
The following THURSDAY, I checked my bank account to find the check for the security deposit to the Denver House had been cashed. Needless to say I was pretty shocked. After about ten attempted calls to Jane she finally picked up the phone. She said that since she had to hold the apartment for me for 72 hours the deposit was non refundable which was stated in the application I had signed. My bad for not reading the paperwork closely enough.
I asked her why she had never called me back all last week to at least communicate the status of things with me but she said it was not her responsibility and ??she would have to check her records but she thought she had not gotten any messages from me? I think this place is super shady and they try to rope you in with the $99 deposit. I also think she purposely waited three days to call us back to say she had not heard from our co signer so she could keep the deposit. I just got a bad feeling all around from her and the place in general. There is no way she would have found another renter at that point anyway we were planning to move in the middle of the month. Anyway the bottom line is lesson learned, we should have gone with our first instincts about this place, it really, really sucks to lose that money but and at least we aren??t stuck in a years lease dealing with Jane!

This is a fun place to live. The views of the downtown area are outstanding and the other tenants, friendly. This is a secured building with onsight management, elevators, an indoor pool with an outdoor access and a jacuzzi. Mailboxes are on the first floor. Laundry is located on each floor and some units have fireplaces. The units also have balconys, some private and all have large windows. The building was built in the 70's and has been well maintained. There is also underground parking that was extra. Rents were very reasonable and you're able to walk to a lot of places.
