My cat Priscilla has taken ill suddenly and before i realized how sick she really was it was too late. Cat heaven was at her door step. I check the website no mention of having to schedule an appointment to put your babies to sleep.. Because I did not have an appointment the receptionist told me to have a seat and call for an appointmet, we said we are already here she is dying. The Vet denied Priscilla services because they had two euthanasia 40 spay and neuter cases scheduled and they good not give Priscilla 15 minutes out of an eight hour day.
I spoke with Sanrda Moe the office manager today she was callous desesnitized and rude . the staff has a great role model to follow. As other reviews have stated they have a butcher assmbly line operation and I don't believe they have the best intrest of the animals in mind.Mney money
the two Vets they contract with are Leha MayerDVM and Debra Van houton DVM which of the two denied Priscilla services I do not know shame on them
I truly believe they all could use a sensitivity chip.

Terrible decision scheduling my cat's spay here...I got there at 8:50 for my 9am appointment and after 30 minutes of sitting there, 2 attempts to speak to the receptionist, and still not having even been CHECKED IN, I left. The receptionist could not have acted any less interested in me or my cat and didn't even look up when I approached the desk but instead just kept pretending she was busy. I've never been treated so rudely and with such disrespect. I can understand the economy is bad and if you hate your job sometimes there's really not much you can do about it because no one's hiring...but come on, the day had just started! The vets might be great and talented surgeons but I will never know because the receptionist was so unprofessional. If you want to take a huge gamble and potentially waste a lot of time and gas, go here, otherwise I would definitely call someone else.

I just had to have my kitty put down and really appreciated all Hamlet did to help. I was quoted a price from another animal hospital that was well over $100 more not including cremation, and since I had spent so much money already, this was a much better option. They got her in right away, something I really, really appreciated as I could not bear her suffering. They were very compassionate to both of us. Thank you Hamlett clinic so much for providing your services to our community.

I've been coming here for probably 15 years. I've had a few pets spayed and neutered here, and had no problems. Janice has been working there for many years, and she treats each animal as though it was her own.

This place is not dirty, as some reviews said. Animals pee on floors (surprise!), and every accident I've seen happen there is cleaned up immediately. The back rooms are always clean, which is certainly quite a task considering the number of animals that come through there! Yes, the building is old, it is a low-cost non-profit. They never charge an office visit, and shots and surgeries are half what you'd pay at your vet. How do you expect them to buy a nice, big building?? They are doing a fantastic job with what they have. If you don't like their building, please donate to their building fund.

And no, there aren't many parking spaces. Park on the street (Boulder), and walk to the door. I think we can all stand to exercise a little bit more, no? Again, if you don't like it, I'm sure they would greatly appreciate a donation toward a bigger building with more parking.

The staff has always been nothing but wonderful. They are extremely busy, as you can tell by your lack of parking! But they still treat everyone (pets included!) kindly. I don't take my pets somewhere because they have a pretty building, I take them here because they genuinely care about animals.

Vaccines are done on a walk-in basis. If they're busy, you may be waiting a little while. If this bothers you, then feel free to pay twice the price (plus an office visit) at your vet. Don't go there and be rude to the staff, they're doing the best they can, and I think they're doing an excellent job.

Bottom line is, they're here for the animals. They are extremely kind to them, have a clean facility, and think of what they've done to curb overpopulation! Think of how many animals have been fixed here, when their owners may not have been able to afford it otherwise! And you're complaining about parking spaces??

I think this clinic does a fantastic job of offering the public a low
cost way of neutering or spaying animals-without it alot more animals
would not be receiving this service, and many more dogs and cats would
be put down-Iwish I had tons of money-I would definitely give them a charitable donation! The assistants were friendly, and very professional
despite the business, and impatience of some clients!

This place is fantastic and is very clean. I have been impressed from the start. I've had my St. Bernard spade and a bichon neutered here with no complications. I have five dogs and get their vaccinations done without having to pay for an office visit too. I have NEVER had a problem with parking and the staff there is super friendly and professional.

I've taken my older dog to Hamlett for vaccinations a couple of times and I also had my two cats neutered there. I utilized the low-income neutering which was free of charge with prove that I was low-income (Proof of SSI reward in my family's case). I simply had to pay for the necessary Distemper vaccine which was at least 50% less than most vets ($15). Everyone there was very nice and even though my kitties were pretty cranky when I picked them up they didn't disturb them and let me calm them down. My cats are both male and one insisted on jumping post-neuter and messed up his tissue-glue, opening the tiny incision just a little. I called and left a message to find out what to do and if I had to bring him back. I got a response in just a couple of hours and was told what to do. They both healed up fine. My older dog's vaccinations were walk-in same day things and I was surprised at how little I had to wait. It was first come, first-serve and it only took about 30 Minutes to be seen. Even though we were just there for a low-cost rabies shot they also advised us on her weight and diet (she had a few vanity pounds and we hadn't realized). They were very helpful. I would definitely reccomend them to those I know as well as visit again myself. I think it's great that there's a place like this to help those who have periods where routine vet care can have a daunting price.

We took our beautiful Great Dane, King, of 5 1/2 years to Hamlett Spay and Neuter clinic this week to help him take his last breath and pass on to the other side. I want to say how caring and sensitive the entire staff were in assisting us through this difficult process. They came out to our car so King wouldn't suffer the additional stress of being moved, they carefully explained the process and told us what we could expect, and then they very gently and quietly gave him the sedative...Of course it was a very emotional time...even the technicians helping us were a bit teary, which speaks volumes to their compassion and sense of caring. I know this a terrible but necessary part of their job...and I want to thank Hamlett for offering this important service...in addition to all the other wonderful things they do for our animal friends. We saved over $125 on the whole procedure, including the euthanaisa and cremation with King's ashes being returned to us. I feel so grateful to Hamlett's staff for their compassion and help during this difficult time...My dog got to take his last breath in my arms, surounded by his loving family and for this I am forever appreciative. I know this will not be our last visit to Hamlett and without hesitation, will recommend and support them in any way I can. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I took my Chow Shylo to Hamlett to get spayed and they did an amazing job. Shylo isin't very friendly and they took great care of her. They waited for me to get there to check on her so they wouldn't stress her out anymore than she already was. Also she had a problem with her eye lid. It was growing inside out and the surgeon called me while she was on the operating table and told me they would fix it for $50 any where else it would have costed me over $500. Thank you Hamlett for everything you do!!

I have been dealing with Hamlett for almost 10 years. They are dedicated professionals who want to help stop the slaughter of homeless animals due to over population. The facility is old but I have NEVER seen it any dirtier than any facility treating animals. I have had 7 cats and 2 dogs spayed/neutered there.I take my pets there for shots. If you want to change their situation, stop whining and make donations to help them get a new place. In the meantime, if you feel that quality of care is based on ambiance and parking, go somewhere else.

I just wanted to respond to the comment made by an Anonymous writer dated 7/7/08. The issue was spay/neutering a pet at 6 months. I have worked with several animal welfare org. and I can tell you that old school vets believe that you have to wait until 6 mo.s to s/n your pet. That is what they were taught. But the new school of thought which is recommended by HSUS and ASPCA is not to wait that long. Some will even spay at 8 weeks (depending on weight of animal). I don't recommend that early but 3-4 months of age is certainly safe and the younger the animal is s/n the quicker the recovery time. Do not believe a vet just because he is a vet when it comes to 6 months rule. Research it yourself if you have any questions or doubts. I have spayed/neutered many rescues before 6 months and it has always turned out well.

I took my sweet little kitty there last month to get him neutered and they got me back in a good amount of time. In the back It was clean and tidy and the other cats looked happy for the most part. They let me say good bye and told me he was going to be fine. When i picked him up that afternoon there was a blizzard coming. I was worried that he would have to stay there overnight, but they called me at two in the afternoon and said i could pick him up. Your not supposed to pick up until three. I thought it was awesome of them two do that. I would recommend them to anyone. Hamlet you rock.

I have been a vet tech for almost 4 years, graduating back in '05. I have worked for one of the most expensive and well known veterinary hospitals in town, volunteered at the Humane Society, and, of course, Hamlett. I was skeptical about the clinic at first but after meeting the staff and having my own pets spayed there, my fear turned into admiration immediately.
Hamlett has, by far, been the clinic that represents exactly why I chose this line of work. The techs will always be attentive and caring, despite the never ending rush we always seem to have, the doctors are professional, compassionate and have years upon years experience with both surgical and full service procedures, and the prices..well everyone knows how great those are!! I would like to reply to some of the negative comments left on here, just for clarification.
Yes, are parking is....well, it's horrible at times! We all know that, and Hamlett really does apologize that it's such an inconvience, but honestly there isn't much that can be done without the proper funds. We do have a "Get a bigger building" fund that can be donated to, for that exact reason.
The wait for vaccines can sometimes be enough to pull your hair out, but it's not for lack of trying...when it's "first come, first serve", it can be pretty unpredictable, especially since surgery animals are priority. We swear, you're not the only one frustrated about the crowded, loud waiting room with angry bodies)
And, of course, the infamous "assembly line" claim. If by assembly line, you mean the animals are done right after the other with little to no break for the techs or doctors, than yes, it can be quite that. That's the only way we'd ever make any progress with population control.
But don't ever think that the animals in our care are EVER mistreated or neglected. We understand that every animal is important and loved by someone, and we treat them as if they were our own. We never forget, or underestimate the fact that these are our patients and that their lives are in our hands.
And as far as the "forgetting a testicle during surgery" or "having a surgical infection", all I can say is mistakes can be made by any doctor, at any clinic. Doctors are just as human as the rest of us, and if any errors are made on our part, we always remedy it to the best of our abitilty. All in all, Hamlett stands for preventing the suffering of animal overbreeding and we take it very seriously. What we lack with convience, we make up with with heart!!

From what I have read here so far is that people are criticizing the building and parking the most. Hamlett has had a donation can sitting on the reception counter for as long as I can remember. Many people do not realize that Hamllet Spay and Neuter Clinic is a Non-profit Organization. They are relying on our help as pet owners and members of this community to help them get that better building and parking. I can only assume that the staff are not paid as well as the staff at your fancier vet clinics, yet I see them go way beyond the call of duty every time I'm there. So hats off to them for having to deal with the old building, limited parking and criticism from people who can't be satisfied no matter what.

I had no trouble parking (arrived at 8) and saw the friendly staff for no more than 20 minutes before escorting my dog to the back with a friendly tech and helping to weigh her and give a mild sedative prior to spaying. It really made me feel at ease. I picked up at 2 and it only took 10 minutes. And they quoted me $120 and charged only $90, so I gave the rest as a donation. These guys absolutely could not be beat on price and the serivce was incredible considering the volume of business they seem to do.

Hamletts is a low cost spaying and neutering clinic. You get what you pay for. They have great staff and take care of your pet. BUT if your looking for one on one attention, take your pet to a regular clinic. They're trying to save people from taking unwanted animals to the humane society or just leaving them in a box some where. They are low cost, and it is nice. BUT like I said you get what you pay for. If you dont like parking so far away, go somewhere else that has higher rates. Another thing, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Dogs are not suppose to be neutered till they are 6 monthes old,JUST BECAUSE THEY OFFER AT 4 MONTHES DOESNT MEAN YOU SHOULD DO IT. Talk to your regular vet about when fluffy should be neutered or spayed and then call hamletts if your looking for low cost.

Than You Hamlett Spay & Neuter Clinic of C/S CO.! I have nothing but love for you! I will park miles away and walk in b/c I am not lazy! Plus my puppies always enjoy a good walk and I need to stay fit. Yeah, I always look at the bottom of my shoes; damn there is so much dirt on them. Shame on me; I may disappoint someone b/c of the filth. Thank you staff and Vets! I appreciate you for doing your best and not being perfect. We will see you soon! Much love!

I have been taking my poodle there for over three years. He is always treated kindly and so am i. You cant beat the price. I think people need to find something better to complain about other than parking. Is it really that drastic? Isnt it more important that they treat your pets good? I would recommend this place to anybody. I will continue to go.

I lived in Colorado Springs for 2 years, 1997-99, while my husband was stationed there. At the time I had a beautiful black toy poodle who was my best friend in the world. I was even accused of treating her better than my husband! (I divorced him later.) Anyway, when it was time for her to be spayed I looked for the best place that was also reasonably priced. I am a Registered Nurse and some of my co-workers recommended Hamlett Spay & Neuter Clinic. I took my baby to them and I was very impressed! They not only took wonderful care of my precious "Fancie", but they made sure that I was okay when I left her. I didn't know many people in town and I was afraid of leaving her just anywhere. So, after her surgery I went to pick Fancie up and the staff wanted to keep her just a little longer due to her small size and the effects of the sedation. She was still very groggy. So, they let me stay with her so that they could watch her for another hour, but I wouldn't have to leave her again either. I wish there were more places like this to take our pets. I just had my Yorkie spayed and it was very expensive and she was well cared for, but no better than my Fancie was at Hamlett. Thanks!!!!

I've had all my animals fixed there. The staff is great but always busy, but not to busy to answer questions and help out! I just want to say they do a great job and I will continue to bring my animals to this clinic!!

I have taken both of my dogs here to gets shots for the past 8 years and have nothing bad to say about them. You save ALOT of money by going to Hamlett. Yes they are small and Yes the parking is not all that good. But you get what you pay for. The girls are always friendly and treat my dogs very well. I have never had anything major done here so I can't speak for that but as far as shots go - you can't bet it!

This clinic is NASTY!! They are like an assembly line for spay and neutering. They spay and neuter the pets too young. They are sloppy and just plain bad. If you care for you pets, bring them to someone who care about them too!!

We've take our cats and dogs for shots and spay/neuter here for over 13 years. They have a kind and caring staff, and we get great care here. My cats and dogs are in great shape.

Keep in mind, this is a specialized clinic for spay, neuter & shots, so you need a your own vet for full service care and treatments. Remember, just bringing in your pet for shots doesn't make them healthy if they already have something going on inside.

I know that it is a clinic setting, and that I will have a wait of some sort when I go. It's worth it for the savings and the kindess there. You don't pay for frills, it's just clean, cheap and comfortable. That's just fine with our family!

I have taken MANY of my family pets to Hamlet Spay and Neuter clinic for shots to Spaying/Neutering. This includes cats and dogs. I have had all my pets sterilized with this clinic and have never had a single problem or issue. Their staff is wonderful and the convenience has always been a plus (not having to make appointment to get shots) I am not saying that the other listing below are not factual or that they didn't happen, but maybe what many do not know is local veterinarian doctors are the ones who perform the spaying/neutering at the clinic. I have personally seen a procedure happening and the animal was treated with gentle hands, care and tenderness. I have also experienced having to put a dog down due to age/illness. It was a VERY hard thing to do, but the staff at Hamlet treated our loving pet with care and respect, and allowed my grandmother to stay with her beloved until the end. It was a peaceful procedure, and the staff was loving and supportive during the entire process.

As for the cleanliness of the location. This is an older building who sees several animals a day, Most are puppies who as a nervous reaction, tend to have accidents on the floor. I have never seen a "mess" on the floor as it is always cleaned up immediately, and this is done by the staff. The kennels are always clean and after a surgery, the animals are provided with warm blankets to rest on in the Kennel. I was even given a blanket to take my animal home in as she had an accident on herself and the staff and I quickly cleaned her up and wrapped her up for me to take home. The last dog I had spayed there came home with an incision so small that it took minimal time to heal and left no scaring. I was amazed. I do think it depends on the Doctor who is on duty that day to do the procedure as to how your animal will do. Keep in mind, complications can happen to any animal anywhere, and it cannot always be someones "fault". I know after 15 years of faithfully going to Hamlet for my animals shots, sterilizations, nail trimming, heart worm test and even anal glads expressions, I have never had a problem yet.

I felt the need to post this seeing as some of these reviews were left after a single incident and no reviews have been left from a long time customer of this facility. I recommend this facility to all my friends and they too have taken their pets there with no problems. I am sorry for the problems the previous reviewers have experienced and I am not making excuses for these problems, as we are all pets lovers and would do anything for out furry friends, that is why we care.

PROS: Cost, no appointment to obtain services with the exception of surgery, kind
CONS: Wish they had later hours...bigger facilty to accomodate thier clients

I agree with the first reviewer. Do not go here! My sister and I have both had our cats fixed at Hamlett Spay and Neuter Clinic of Colorado Springs. We've both been 'cat keepers' since we were children. This is the first time we've had the problems that we had after going to Hamlett. My female cat took nearly 6 months to heal after her spaying. Hamlett just kept telling me it was normal for her to have that large lump at the incision site. I didn't feel that was right so took her to another vet who found she had a deep infection that was trying to work it's way to the surface. My NEW vet said the infection was most likely caused DURING her spaying. My sister's male cat still had ONE testicle after his neutering - somehow they missed it, since both testes were dropped and present before the surgery. She had my new vet remove the leftover one.

I have called this clinic a minimum of 3 times to inquire about neutering for my cat. I was even so bold as to leave a message asking if they in fact returned calls. I have as of yet to hear from them. Is this how they do business? I dont know, I am certainly skeptical at this point.

We have had good experiences with this clinic. We appreciate that they don't charge us for "office visits"...which can be an average of $35 at other places. And the cost for immunizations, neutering, and spaying animals is quite low. Each time we've brought our animals in for yearly shots, there was no additional cost for an examination either. They just charge for the shots.

We like that the people who work there tend to do extras without charging extra. They seem to care about animals. For instance, last summer we brought in our two cats and a kitten for immunizations. The technician suspected one of our cats might be suffering from earmites. And so the tech did a test, confirmed there were earmites, and cleaned and treated the cat's ears. She also tested the other two...and luckily found they were not infected. The expense was only $7 - which was what the medicine cost. Now, if we had taken the three to another office...we would have had to pay the "office visit" fee in addition to a test fee and a treatment fee. And, of course, as you can imagine, that could turn out to be over $100 just for the "office visit" fees...and that's not counting the immunization fees...which is what we originally were taking care of.

Yes, the building is old and the parking lot is fairly small, but there is parking in front on the street, too. The staff does their best to keep things tidy. We believe they do a very good job in providing affordable low cost immunization, spaying, and neutering services. We have saved a great deal of money through the years by utilizing their services.

PROS: Provide affordable low cost immunization, spaying, and neutering services.
CONS: No frills kind of place. The building is old.

Ok, I understand this is a LOW cost clinic, but still....
1. parking - they had about 8 parking spots and about 30 people crowded into the lobby (tiny tiny room) when I arrived for my 'appointment'. It was actually first come, first serve.
2. dirty - this place was so dirty. I didn't notice it too much dropping off my kittens (for spaying and neutering) because I was pretty upset about having to leave them at all. But afterwards, I realized this place is absolutely FILTHY.
3. I'm not even going to go into how they treated my 4 month old kittens and the condition I got them back in. I'm just glad I'll NEVER have to go back to this place again!

I always take my pets here for vaccinations and to get fixed. I've never had a bad experience. The wait times on 'vaccination Saturday's' are a little long but it is to be expected with rates this low. Just bring a book and get settled - or be the first person there :)

Awesome doctores, awesome staff - love this place!

My parents had been going to Hamlet for years - I started taking my pets to Hamlet...these people are wonderful....they care about the animals...they will answer questions for you......all 4 of my dogs had their neuter and spays done there...and their shots. If you are really that upset over parking or the building....buy them a new place - or donate generously - I'm sure they would love it!
