I am sorry Julie J had a bad experience. I wish she would give it another try. Ownership has changed since 2007 and I think things are looking up. I find FanciMats a Toy Store full of goodies for the cross stitcher. Cindy and her staff are friendly and helpful and the other shoppers in the store are as likely to help you out with advice if you are looking for it - just ask. I am a FanciMats addict and hope she will be open for years to come.

An embroidery shop right next to a yarn shop a block away from where a compulsive crafter goes to school??? It's like I died and went to heaven! They have pretty much EVERYTHING you need for counted cross-stitch. I'm working on 2 projects and I got all my stuff from FanciMats.

That being said, I'm sure the employees are sweet to people in general, but I've been in this shop 3 times and they've ignored me and have been rude to me all 3 times. Not only that, I've seen them greet people older than me within 2 seconds of them entering the shop. Not cool! Seriously, who answers their cell phone before helping a customer that's been waiting at the counter for a few minutes? I work in customer service and I feel really bad if I don't greet people and tell them to have a great day. Is that just not the case with this shop? Are they just so stuck up that if they see a kid like me come in they assume I'm not taking the craft seriously? That's kinda shallow. I can't imagine they're like this to everyone, or they'd be out of business. I am all for the independent shops. Screw the monopolies like Wal-Mart and Hobby Lobby. I always liked the indie shops because they felt cozy and the people are so sweet. Yeah, not so much with FanciMats. I will definitely keep going back to a Knitted Peace, but when I need to get my 2 cross-stitch pieces framed (which I know would cost a bit more at FanciMats anyway, but I would originally choose them over any place else because of the selection and I hate monopolies :P), I'm taking them to Hobby Lobby. At least they know how to be polite there... to ALL their customers.

The good news is that if you don't look like a college student that's gonna shoplift, they will love you to pieces.
