I am a beginning fish collector and had the unfortunate experience of purchasing my tank mates elsewhere at big name pet stores. These stores left me with no information on how to take proper care of my fish, and gladly let me take home

Don't let your first impression be your final one. This is by far the best fresh water fish store there is (I don't have salt water, so I can't say, but they have a lot of salt water fish). \r

This store is ridiculous. First off, I could care less if they smoke, it's nobodies place to say if they should or shouldn't, so my opinion has nothing to do with that. I can assure you I am a consumer not a competitor for those of you

A person at Customer Service remembered that I had ordered an item back in 2008 that was backordered. Wasn't I surprised when out of the blue he emailed me last week letting me know that the item was back in stock & I could place an order if I was still interested! NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Thanks again, & I look forward to doing business with you.

Who ever was in the stored, when I visited, was bothered by me being there. He did not greet me. When I asked him where is medicine was, he just pointed. He was very disturbed, when he had to walk around the counter to show me where it was.
Don't know why they're in business if the customers are annoying to them.

When I first started keeping Aquariums I was pointed toward many stores, except this one. I found this particular store after many bad experiences (i.e. Poor customer service) the other local stores. They helped me establish my first 20 gallon and in the years following have given me the ability to advance to a 55 gallon. The fact that they always seems to be on the cutting edge of aquarium technology is a plus too. I have gone in the store for advice only and received nothing but quality customer service over the years even though I am not a "regular". In addition to these facts they are more than willing to special order Shrimp, Fish and Mollusks when they don't have them in stock (which is rare unless you want something specific). This is the go to place if you want to do a superb freshwater aquarium!

Pros: Knowledgeable, Friendly, Helpful, Reasonably Priced

Cons: Small Store

.

I am convinced that the negative reviews are from competitors as I am a native of the Springs and this is the best fish store I have ever gone to. I usually have Sage help me and she is always very pleasant. If you are interested in a fish that will not work in your current setup, they will tell you, not just sell you the fish. They do care about the health and happiness of the fish they sell and perhaps that is why they ask questions about your tank rather than just bag it and ring it up. I have never received a fish that wasn't healthy, in fact I still have every fish I have bought there. They also know their plants and sell very health varieties. Today I stopped by to drop off an algae eater that was clashing with another fish in my tank - they agreed to find it a home, so that was appreciated. I believe the prices to be fair as the quality and size of the fish are excellent. When I used to buy else where, my success rate was about 75% after 6 months...With the fish at Seascape, my success rate has been 100%. So even if they are 10-15% higher priced as posted by another rater, they are still cheaper in the fact that you won't have to replace them. This is the only fish store I will do business with - Keep up the good work.

Pros: Clean Store- Helpful FRIENDLY staff - Healthy fish-

Cons: store is on the smaller side, so not the largest selection

.

I have been in this store 7 or 8 times in the last 3 weeks while setting up a new tank and the staff has been very helpful and never rude or condescending. This store has the best selection I have seen in Colorado Springs as they have saltwater and freshwater fish and supplies unlike most of the stores in town that only specialize in saltwater. I bought several fish from them to get my new tank cycle started and not a single one has died or had any issues which is very good considering the stress the fish go through in a new aquarium. The tanks and fish they have setup in this store are clean and beautiful, worth a trip just to browse the tanks. They are also the only store in town where I could find a much needed part for my aquarium filter. I highly recommend visiting this store before believing any of the negative reports, I am glad I did.

Pros: WORST FISH STORE IN TOWN

Cons: EXTREMELY RUDE AND JUDGEMENTAL STAFF

Not sure about the negative sources or the reliable sources. Based upon my experience alone, I have found the owners to be helpful but not really outgoing. Perhaps that is why the unfriendly wrap. I have been shopping the store for about five years and have not had a bad experience. (I have visited the other shops in town and found SA to be one of the best and convenient to me)
The shop and tanks are clean and there is no malodor in the store. All of the specimens appear healthy and cared for.
As always, when shopping for aquarium supplies and specimens, I would encourage you to know what you are looking for before you go in. Check the internet for info and go shopping. No one store can be all thing to all people but SA is one of the best in the Springs.

I have been informed by a reliable source that many of the negative comments left by others about Seascape Aquatics were posted by their competitors.

Since 1994 I have been to all of the shops in the area searching for quality aquarium products and livestock. Although most shops (that are still in business!) have these things the one thing they seem to lack is a staff with a solid knowledge base about the hobby. Since I have been working with Jim and Sage my system has never looked better.

As for the complaints about cost and cigarette smoke smell:

1. I think we need to remember that they are in business to make a profit so they can stay in business and provide us with a great place to shop for the hobby we enjoy!

2. I remember Neptune?s Realm when the guys who owned it smoked a couple of packs a day at the counter!

I also remember the stink of dead livestock at most (but not all) of the shops around here too.

Jim and Sage are good news for the aquarium hobby in Southern Colorado. If you?re new to the hobby there is no better place to go to get yourself started!

Jim reaks of alcohol and he and his wife smoke a lot out front. Don't ask them a question because they don't really listen to your specific question, they just go on and on and on about what they know and they are right. I could barely get a word in edgewise! They talk at you, not with you. I'm not completely ignorant; I've had an aquarium a long time. They are very condesending and rude. Too busy paying attention to the next guy coming in the door. They contradict each other and they don't like it if you call them on it. Not interested in making customer happy, just making money. Otherwise, they have a good selection of fish and supplies.

Frankly, of the seven or eight times I have patronized the establishment, I very quickly came to dread having to go because of the OVER-SERVICE. They talk, talk, talk- puffing themselves up more than anything helpful.
The one would tell me something, only to have another contridict her once i finally got free of the first! Can I not get a simple, to the point, black and white answer? Need I truely suffer through the confusion of words the staff drowns one in as they say the same thing over and over and around and 'round?
For your own sake, DO NOT ASK A QUESTION! YOU WILL BE SORRY. The first time it may seem like you have gotten good information, but they contridict the books they push you to buy, contridict eachother and even themselves if you are entrapped long enough in the cell of conversation with one of them! They tell you what temperature your talk should be and them you ask why all of thier tanks are off by several points than what they say is healthy. (contricting the books too remember)
I esecially do not like that they feel they must tell you so much more than you asked of them. Just answer my question. DOn't tell me what I want or need!! (If I did not ask you!!!)

The tanks are not as clean as Mr Aqua's, nor do they have the selection of exotic saltwater fish. Ok, one might see the store as cleaner because it has carpet and painted walls, but what is important? What is in the tanks or what is on the floors and ceiling?

I want to find a place where I can look around and purchase what I want, without being harassed. However I need to understand what the people are saying and not be made to feel inferior. It is like these people just assume you have not a clue, before they know a thing about you! If this is what some folks meant by calling them snoody, then I certainly agree- it is just much more harassing too.

I started purchasing from Sage and Jim when they first opened. I recently got back into the hobby after a 2+ year hiatus and much to my pleasaure, the store is still thriving. I walked in and they were busy, which says alot. But once they got to me, within a couple minutes, they recognized me nd much to my surprise, remembered both of my aquariums and the livestock I had. That's customer service! I would much rather frequent a shop that is busy with repeat customers as well as new customers, than one that never seems to have more than one other customer shopping.
Even when I was just going in and researching my options, they were all helpful and knowledgeable. I have shopped at nearly all the aquarium shops in town at one time or another. While the others are decent, Jim and Sage run a top notch store and seem to really want to help you succeed in the aquarium hobby.
Whether you are new to aquariums or a veteran reef keeper, I think you will find seascape aquatics to be your favorite shop.

These people have to smoke Cancer sticks before servicing customer. Knowledge of plants is poor. When wrong still insist they are right Like my extensive research is incorrect, I know what I am looking for. Most fish are substandard and seems they are always treating diseases. Discus fish are stressed by extremely low ph. I mentioned this and the ph monitor dissapeared next day. I recommend not buying from here. Overall Knowledge of fisherys is poor. besides you will be lectured incorrectly while buying fish. just my opinion though. Good luck

I visited two other aquarium stores before going to Seascape Aquatics. It was a little tricky to find the first time but I found exactly what I wanted and needed there. Being a first time aquarium owner, the main thing I was looking for was information. The staff was very friendly and extremely knowledgable. They asked the right questions and offered to test the tank water to see if it was ready for fish. The store is very clean and they had all the aquarium supplies I needed; I wanted particular types of fish and food. I've been back many times for more supplies, live plants, aquarium replacement parts, etc.; they remember me and one each visit I learn more about my new hobby.

I was somewhat new to fish and plant keeping when I first went into Seascape Aquatics. They didn't seem elitist or snobby to me. They seemed very willing to talk and share information about subjects they seem genuinely interested in. I've found most of their prices to be about 5%-10% higher than Petsmart or big box retailers, but they have stock not found at those places, not to mention their tanks are clean. What is the point of saving $1 on a fish from PetCo if it comes with who-knows-what sort of parasites or bacteria?

Anyhow, I've seen a number of frighteningly dirty local fish stores, and this place is clean and pleasant (though somewhat small). Oh, I've also ordered hard-to-find fish and plants from them that they didn't have in-stock and the experience was nothing but positive.

If I had any suggestions, I'd say that I wish I could place orders online.

I agre with other reviewers who say the staff at Seascape know their stuff. It is the knowledge that comes not just from working at a fish store, but from experienced hobbyists. I think that enthusiasm is off-putting for someone who is used to buying Neon Tetras from WalMart for ninety-nine cents each. But, I have not yet felt like any staff member was intentionally rude or condescending.

Prices for most of their tropical fish are high. But, compared to some local chain pet stores, the service is lightening speed.

Overall, you can get your stock accessories cheaper elsewhere. But, do go to Seascape for all your special aquatic needs.

The store is very clean, cleaner than most. It's refreshing knowing that the environment is one of concern for both the fish and the customers. Similarly, the fish are good looking and seem to be in great health; they are all hand-caught, and the store does not take fish that were caught via alternate mean (e.g., chemical catching, dynamite, reef structure damage, etc.). However, that fact alone makes the fishy more exepnsive than what you will find at a Petco or similar chain.
While the staff is particularly helpful and knowledgeable, they know it. There is more than one person in there who knows tones of stuf, and they won't let you forget about it. Getting into a simple coversation about what type of fish you want in your aquarium can be a lasting effort, and by the time you have made a decision, they are through their introduction.
Prices are also a category of contention for me, as they seem to be much higher than the places I have purchased my materials before. Granted, the store is smaller, you get a little more attention than you would at a chain, and you knoe the fish are healthy, but is all that really worth a voluminous conversation with a pious fish-hobbyist? You be the judge...

The store is very clean, cleaner than most. It's refreshing knowing that the environment is one of concern for both the fish and the customers. Pros: Clean store, knowledgeable service, attention to detail, healthy fish

Cons: Expensive, limited selection, somewhat snoody

.

I have been in C/S for less than a year and have been lucky enough to find an aquatics shop as truly amazing as this one. No question is left unanswered and they are always polite, making time to attend to my every need. The selection of fish is wonderful! They stock all different species of slat and fresh water fish. Their dedication to the aquatics community is outstanding. All in all the only aquatics shop I will frequent.

PROS: Friendly Service, Wide Selection, Location
CONS: Couldn't think of one if I had to.

Anything you buy in small fish stores is going to be expensive, I was struck by how rude the people were while asking such high prices. I sometimes pay higher prices at smaller establishments if the staff is pleasant and will give me individual attention, something that the larger stores can't always provide. It was brought to my attention by others that the staff here is angry and rude, have to agree. Don't see Seascape lasting very long.

Jim and Sage (And of course, Bob) run a tip top establishment. Any supplies one would ever need, and a great assortment of livestock, laid out well. Fresh and Salt water available, self-serve. All varieties of foods, as well as tanks and the usual assortment of maintenance items. Their recommendations and troubleshooting are valuable. They will test water samples for you if you don't have a testing kit.

Best looking livestock but not a lot of it. Also limited in dry goods. Can be almost double in price compared to the internet on dry goods.

Another great aquarium supply store! Located more near the north end of town, right on Academy Blvd, it's really easy to get to, lots of parking, great selection, very nice prices, and so much more. They have every thing you might need to set up from the smallest aquarium to the largest. They also have the knowledge and expertise to help you learn all you can about your new little world. Very nice store, laid out really well, you can tell these people take pride in their store and in their product. Excellent store and a great addition to our ecomony!
