The food was good in general, but the portions were very small and the prices very high. The bread basket which was supposed to contain three types of bread had bread which all tasted the same. The tipping point was being charged $8.00

Ive eaten and worked at this place. I would never refer anyone here who wants indian food. Their kitchen is disgusting, cooks don't wear hair nets, dishes are never cleaned right the first time. Management and owners are money hungry

We have been to India House several times in the past. The service was never outstanding but the food made it worthwhile. However, after last nights dinner, we will not go back.
We made a reservation and called to push it later and they told us it was no problem. We arrived and were seated upstairs. After a few minutes the server took our drink order. A while later we were able to order (we were never brought the flatbreads). We were still waiting for our food and ordered a second round of drinks. The food finally arrived...but only half of it. No Nan...if you like Indian food then you know...the Nan is a big deal! I asked two people about it. After we were done eating our now cold food waiting for the Nan, the hostess finally brought us a basket with a piece of whole wheat and a piece of garlic Nan- we ordered plain. They obviously just grabbed some from the kitchen or (gross) leftover. Our second round of drinks didn't arrive until after we were done eating.
They did take $15 off our check but that was small consolation. It was a Friday night and not very busy. Cannot understand how a downtown restaurant could be run so poorly on a weekend night.

Great home-cooked style Indian food.
Never overpowering, there's subtlety of delicate spicing...Indian flavors at their best.
Lunch buffet is always a good deal, and special events (Friday night belly dancing!) are always fun.

This place was the one-time Denver eatery the Delhi Darbar. The interior of this restaurant is nicely decorated and clean, with exposed brick, dark wood, and comfortable booths. I have only had the lunch buffet here for $10. As far as buffets go, it was good. Naan, palak paneer, potato curry, meatballs, and more. The food wasn't overly spiced and I like it that way!

I ate here this weekend and was able to talk the owner into taking me into the kitchen. Here he showed me the clay ovens, and talked me through their recipe for Chicken Tikka Masala. The Chef spends about 6 hours preparing the 2 base sauces for the CTM sauce. The end result is the best CTM I have ever had. The owner gave me some of the base sauces and clay oven baked chicken to take home where I was able to make my own CTM

The food is very authentic and tastes great, combined with a modern decor, makes for a great meal!

Having eaten at this restaurant on many occasions including when it was the Dehli Dharba my most recent experience negated each and every previous visit. Food was bland and less than mild. The appetizer was quite clearly reheated, the main course was beyond bland. when I complained to the manager he either did not understand or ignored my comments. The meal was removed and returned doused in some kind of cheap chilli source. I will never return to this establishment/

Being a fan of Indian cusine, I've dined at nearly every Indian restaurant in Denver. I don't usually take the time to write reviews, however, if you want to treat yourself to the best Indian food in DenverI you must try India House. Quality ingredients are essential and for my money, India House has the freshest and most robust. Cheers to the chef! The quality of the cusine is to be highly commended. The ambiance is what I would call "Industrial Organic" providing an engaging emergence of the ubane with traditional Indian motif. Contemporary Indian music appropriately adds to synergistic Indian dining experience. There's even a rarely seen "Indian-stylized" dumb waiter. The service was appropriately attentive, concise, knowledgeable and essentially outstanding. I recommend India House without any reservation.

Anyone who loves a great indian lunch buffet has to try this place. I have eaten here and at Little India a bunch of times for lunch and must tell you that this place is WAY better than Little India. The buffet always has a bunch of items, and the quality is better. The dinner seems overpriced, but the food is very good, and the lunch buffet is a real steal.

I used to frequent their buffet for years, back in the dehli dar bar days even, but now I can't even bring myself in because all the things for a great eating experience are there but the food has lost it's appeal. It's like the staff is there but trying to prepare food as quickly and cheaply as possible for some unknown reason. It's disappointing to know that everything is there for success except the drive of the cook staff.

My husband and I have been frequenting India House since it was Delhi Darbar (back in the early 2000s). The food, atmosphere, and informative wait staff keep us coming back for more. I highly recommend the channa masala and dal tarka!

I ate at this place on Monday evening with my wife. We got to this place at about 8:00 and had to wait till 9:00 before the food arrived. I saw only 3 employees taking order and bringing food for over 11 tables. Food was Ok and I won't say one of the best food I have ever had. The lady serving was helpless and it seems by the time she brought the food out it wasn't as hot as it should be.
Definitely not a place to go if you are in hurry and look for prive-value in food

Definitely fabulous food! We started with the vegetable somosa. Great flavor. For dinner we chose TIKKA NAWAB and shrimp vindaloo for the main dish. We went with the plain nan, definitely get the garlic! Hubby ended with gulab jamun. He enjoyed it quite a bit, not the sweetest he's ever had but definitely yummy! Unfortunately the service was sub par. They appeared to be understaffed and over seated. Even with the back room up stairs no used. Our waiter was moving tables, seating people, running food, and eventually checking in on us! Luckily i love spending time chatting with my husband, but it was still a pretty long dinner!

This is by far the best Indian food you will ever have. We live in San Francisco with Gaylord's restaurant often listed as the best along side India House. Hands down, India House wins out. Every time we are in Denver our first night is spent eating at or taking out from India House. Cheers!

I'm not sure what some of these other folks are thinking or saying on here. I have been going to India House since I have been in Denver about 15 years. The restaurant had a different name but same owners and same great food as always!!! India House has the best Indian food in town and to me there really isn't a comparison. To have a great experience, plan on a couple of hours for dinner. Also, realize that you are downtown so plan for the parking situation. Don't go there starving because the food can take a bit to arrive especially on weekend nights. Order up some Samosas and drinks right away before dinner. Maybe even some naan and raita. If you are a fan of curry and you like shrimp, the Tikka Niwab comes highly recommended! When I go with my friends here, quite often everyone orders this dish. Don't go too spicy with the dish or it may lose flavor for heat. There are plenty of great choices at India House to accomodate everyone including many great veg dishes. The bottom line is...if you want to eat the best Punjabi-style Indian food that you've ever had, plan ahead and go to the India House. You won't regret it!

I have tried a number of Indian restaurant's in Denver and others cites and I keep going back to India House. I have been going there for at least 10 years and it never disappoints me. The food is excellent, the service good, and the atmosphere is very comfrotable. The Vindiloo is my favorite dish and is perfectly spiced to satisfy my need for varity, also the Tandori chicken is excellent. I have taken a number of friends and family with not one disappointment.

I felt very sorry for our server she was very sweet and tried to help us the best that she could but it seemed that the kitchen couldn?t get their act together. First of all we had to endure an hour long wait to get just our appetizers and this was in an empty restaurant. When we asked for bread that was an additional 30 minutes along with our entries. When we finally received our food the presentation was horrible, it looked and tasted old and crusty and not to mention cold. For India house to call itself a full service restaurant is a plan joke. It is like the Burger King of Indian food except for the fact that it takes them an hour and a half to put out a dinner for two that even a dog would have trouble stomaching. In short I would not wish the experience of India House on my worst enemy.

Ordered for lunch:

$18 for Saag Paneer? $21 for Shrimp Vindaloo? $10 for samosa appetizer?

I just received and ate my order from DiningIn after originally figuring, with prices like these..the food has just GOT to be better than the other India restaurants I've tried in Denver. Oh well, guess I was seriously mistaken.

The Saag was no different than ANY other indian place, the samosa was supposed to be "lamb and spices". Sorry, but no spices to be found (probably the dullest samosa I've eaten, in fact...just some dried up lamb inside dry fried dough). The Vindaloo was very spicy, but that was about it. Everything needed salt and I'm not even a "salt" guy.

Oh yeah, they forgot my Garlic Naan.

Look, I'd happily spend money on items like this if the food was worth it. It simply is not and was just a waste.

bad mannered behavior
Due to them not taking the check, the manager told us to go and get cash out, but when we tried to leave as he said, they locked the door, and the hostess blocked us from leaving! The manager made a huge scene in the lobby in front of other onlooking customers, Uh, have they ever heard of American laws? We had no other form of payment....we tried talking to him and having him once again take the check, but he proceeded to tell us he didn't care what we had to say.

The seating was prompt, the service (waitress) was fine, the food was pretty good. The manager's level of customer service dumbfounded me - really, in an incredibly negative way. I had a $50 gift certificate that I received in April of 2006. It had an expiration date of July, 2006 (which I found ridiculous). Before going to the restaurant I called and told them I had an expired certificate and asked them if they would honor it. They told me to go ahead and bring it in. When we got our bill, I included the certificate with my credit card. I informed the waitress that it was expired, but I was told it would be honored. She said "of course, no problem". Two minutes later she came back to our table with the certificate in hand saying, "I'm sorry - my manager will not allow this. It's too old." I asked to speak to the manager. He came to the table and pointed at the expiration date. He then angrily said, "where did you get this anyway!?". I informed him that my brother gave it to me for my birthday and that he paid an honest $50 for it, that India House has been able to use for the past year and a half. I pointed out that the present value of that $50 is definitely greater than $50. He said, "no, no, it's expired." In the end, he agreed to give me $25 credit for the certificate. I am ABSOLUTELY APPALLED, and I will never return to this restaurant or recommend that anyone else does.

For authentic North Indian food, go to India House - it's centrally located, very classily decorated, prides itself on great service and has really good Indian chefs from Punjab. My husband and I have tried many Indian restaurants in and around Denver - none of them can match India House in quality of food, service or even decor. My personal favorites are the saag paneer, garlic naan, and Punjabi chicken wings, my husband loves their thali and we both agree that their chai is the best available in Denver. An occasional problem - service can and will be slow if the restaurant is very busy. Look on the bright side - it's taking long because they are not trying to take any shortcuts...

The Vindaloo is killer Great! I have friends who travel regularly all over the world and they are always amazed at the fine quality of the India House cuisine. It is easily our favorite Denver eatery. You eat off of REAL bone china dishes, and if you like Indian spices, the food is spectacular! Lunch is nice and they have a buffet, but definitely try the dinner menu for a real taste of India.

It is easily our favorite Denver eatery. You eat off of REAL bone china dishes, and if you like Indian spices, the food is spectacular! Lunch is nice and they have a buffet, but definitely try the dinner menu for a real taste of India.

I went here for my birthday and was terribly disappointed. The service was pretty snooty, and the food was some of the worst Indian food I have ever tasted and I LOVE Indian food, so I have had a lot.
It took more than 30 minutes to get our food, and even though my Dad was nearly in insulin shock they could barely get it together to bring him a small cracker to tide him over.
I had the vegetarian Thali: The samosa was very bland- mostly just mashed up, unseasoned potatoe. The Sag Paneer had only one piece of paneer and was cold so it had a really gross skin on top. The dal also had a disgusting skin on top from being cold. The most interesting dish was a friend okra with mango, but since it was cold and fried it was very greasy. Yuck! Will never go back and definitely do NOT RECOMMEND!

I should say the service was very lousy. There was only one server and she seemed to show no interests on the service. We booked a table for 10 for buffet on a saturday. There was no greeting and there was no tables together to seat 10 of us. Even before we started, the server informed as they will close the buffet by 2:30. There were just Naans(not hot), plain rice and couple of gravies. when we asked for a refill on the channa (which was too less), the server showed a surprising expression like do u need that?? Then the food was very stale and not tasty at all. the chicken gravy didnt have much chicken at all. They didnt refill the plates and took much time to clear the used plates on our tables. The server was most interested in sending us out than serving. It looks like they dont need this business.

This is a place that actually matches its typically sharp looking LODO fascade. Well-designed dining room and great work in the kitchen too. Although service was a bit slow, all of the entrees were delicious. I especially liked all of the tandoori style entrees (had the sampler platter) and the Saag. It really felt like all of the dishes were at least above average. Highly recommended.

worth noting: i am picky about my indian food. after having lived in london for several years and travelling to india, i would like to think i can pick out the good from the bad. the usual soggy, greasy "indian" food that you seem to find in the states just doesn't do it for me. it was my birthday and as i love indian food i decided to try india house since it had come with such great reviews. i was impressed, as were everyone i dined with - some of whom came to dinner saying "i'm not so keen on indian food." they have a great selection and everything is made to order so if you want something finely tunes on the spicy meter or certain vegetables put in/taken out, they are happy to do it without question. our waiter made an excellent wine recommendation for me, and as he heard in our conversation that it was my birthday, he even made sure that i got a birthday surprise in the form of kheer with a candle in it!

the food was very flavorful, not greasy at all, and the naan to be just as good as i'd hoped for. it's nowhere as cheap as you would get in london or india, but i am happy to pay accordingly and get some great food that i know has been well crafted.

i am happy to come back here again and again!

I have eaten at the Indian House numerous times and have not once had anything less than superb. The food is so good and satisfies every time. The wait-staff is very knowlegdable and courteous. There is a fully stocked bar, with a very nice wine list and a great bartender as well. If you love Indian food or have never had it before, you don't want to miss out on this excellent establishment in the heart of LoDo. This is the perfect place to kick off your night, with great food and drinks in a wonderful setting.

The food here is bland and timid. They try to make up for it by trying to make the place look high class. Black tablecloths and young attractive wait staff do not make up for bad food, at least not for me.

This is some of the best Indian food I've ever had in a restaurant. Eat here and you'll pay a couple bucks more than some other places, but they will be the best couple of bucks you've spent in a long time. Service isn't perfect, sometimes too fast, other times too slow, but it's absolutely worth tolerating--once the food arrives, you'll be completely distracted. I like the atmosphere, but maybe just a bit too LoDo froo-froo.

This is the first time I've tried Indian Food. The waitress was wonderful and very kind. I recommend the mango lassi (not the strawberry one), their quail dish and lamb dishes. I loved their rice.

We're on a business trip to US and after reading Mr. Rahi's comments we tried this restaurant "India House" and found out exactly what Mr. Rahi wrote. Thanks to Mr. Rahi and many many thanks to the best crew of India House who made our trip to US beautiful. On our next trip to US we'll definitely visit Denver especially the India House.

I think i have eaten at more than 100 Indian restaurants in CA, MA, NY, CO and most of the places i found were good at one thing and bad at others. Some time food was good but service was very poor, some time prices were so high and some time serive or prices were okay but food wasn't that good. Last time i tried at India House and i found the real taste of food (the way people cook in India), quality of service, ambience and reasonable price of food. Which i think every restaurant should provide to their customers but too bad that there are not many restaurants out there where customers can get most out of their money!

The best of the Indian restaurants I've been in Denver metro.
Food is good, though I've found the buffet menu to be quite repetitive, but does have an authentic taste to it. Mango Lassi is fantastic.
Excellent service and friendly atmosphere. All in all, my thumbs up.
