I really like this place. They have a good selection of beers. They have a wonderful patio that's shaded. It's pretty easy to get a table if you show up at a reasonable hour...(before 6 p.m) I'll definitely be coming back to My Brother's

To be honest the food and drinks were terrific but the service was nothing to write home about. I had a few friends visiting from out of town and it took us forever to get our drinks and food. I think they need to hire some more people.

Without a doubt Brother's has the BEST greasy cheeseburger around! Sounds horrible? Not at all. I was a theatre producer in Denver and producing is hungry work( high stress level) so I would get a Brother's burger before the performance and after the curtain went down, so to speak, cast, crew and fiends would plan to meet at Brother's.
A decade ago it was the place to head to after a performance because you could still get food AND most everyone else was also there or at The Wazee Lounge up the street. (Wazee was owned by the other Brother in "My Brother's Bar'. ) I live out of state now but when I am in Denver I always zip in for a Burger and a shot. There a lots of posters around so I can see what's up in Denver Theatre etc: The Brother's have ALWAYS supported Denver theatre with Ad placements and it is our pleasure to support Brother's by going in and drinking the beer!
About the service people- Brother's is not the place to go if you are in a big hurry. Sit back, relax- it is a Bar full of memories and making new ones everyday-ENJOY!!

Besides it being uncomfortably dark, none of the waiting staff was slightly civil towards us. The waitress was rude and seemed annoyed to serve us. I thought the bartender might be more tolerable but he was just as annoyed and rude as the waitress. She only came by once to refill our drinks (after they were LONG gone). When we complained, they said if we didn't like it we could talk to the owner. I wouldn't go back if someone paid me.

My Brothers Bar takes pride in being the oldest bar in Denver. It is no wonder that it has survived over the years. When you are in the mood for good burgers, good beer, and a chill atmosphere - check out MBB! The patio in the back is the best in the summertime!

I'm new to the area and this is one of the places that locals seem to consistently rave about. While I don't get it from the food perspective...although I think I can get into the whole cream cheese on my burger thing that Denverites seem to like, and I like the presentation (as long as you aren't sharing a table with more than one person), but overall the burgers just weren't that great. Fries were a bit limp and the onion rings were crisp, but maybe lacking in the oil you expect from a greasy fried ring.

That being said, the bar may be a place my ass would like to permanently call home. Really diggin the throwback to the old school bartender complete with well old bartenders. Local drafts, and well to be honest, I like the fact that no matter how early, you will never feel guilty about having a beer.

The whole ambiance thing is pretty cool too. So will I go again, absolutely...I just won't go hoping to stumble across the best burger ever to find it's way into my mouth...

And I'm not gonna lie, I like places with no names on the door. Makes me feel like an "in the know" individual.

Pros: the bar, the vibe

My brother and I have been going to My Brothers Bar since the early 70s. We both enjoy the atmosphere but more the hamburgers. And yes I have been there when the service was slow. And yes I have had a dry hamburger (1 time) but over the years it has been a great place to come for a basic meal and good environment.

You need to know the exact address of this place, or you might just drive straight past it. It is an unassuming looking building with no signage leading you through their tinted doorways. But once you are inside, you immediately are surrounded by years of history, including the ancient owners who still work there. Yes, service can be a bit gruff and slow, but this isn't the type place you go for white table cloth service. It's simple, you go for the burgers and the beer. Now, I think Cherry Cricket actually has a better burger per se, but My Brother's Bar is a pretty close second. The cream, cheese jalapeno burger is damn near perfection. Lots of local brews on draft served by a throwback to bartenders from days past.

Bottom line, don't go if you are in a hurry, and don't expect to be greeted like royalty. But go if you are in the mood for a history lesson and great food.

I'm astounded at some of the most recent reviews. Makes me wonder if the reviewers were part of a group that caused problems and were treated accordingly. I've never sat on a sticky chair or had a sticky table, other than the messes I've made. The food has always been excellent and if you don't want a darkened pub experience, please go to a disco...not a "pub" for crying out loud.

I agree that the wait staff could be improved, but only once did I actually have to wait for an extended period of time. Then again, I go with the lunch crowd and the place gets pretty busy since so many people downtown frequent the place, so it was understandable.

The back patio on a nice summer day can't be beat. The service is also a little faster back there for some reason. This is one of our favorite spots and we often take out of town visitors there after visiting other nearby sites. We've never had anybody tell us they didn't enjoy it and believe me, our friends are not shy with their opinions.

Don't listen to the haters that obviously don't belong in a neighborhood pub. They'll find their way back to Denny's soon enough and the rest of us can enjoy some good food and great company.

"My Brother's Bar" in LoDo, Denver... We tried it based on so many positive reviews, and because it's open till 1 am. The atmosphere was decent, if a little dark. A corner bar fashioned after a London Pub, dark wood, library-esque feeling. The burgers, service, and check, however, left much to be desired.

We walked in and were told to seat ourselves. We did, in a Booth/Table along the front windows. Then we were ignored for 5 minutes. A waitress noticed us, asked "Oh, has she not been by yet?" then wandered off, presumably to find "she." "She" finally appeared, took our drink order, sneered because we were not drinking alcohol, and scampered off. When she came back, I asked if the Chili was homemade. "Oh, yeah" was the reply. Sadly, I took her at her word and ordered a bowl. What I was presented with had obviously come out of a vacuum-packed envelope, and was lacking in many identifiable meat parts. I did find one chunk which appeared to be a piece of leftover hamburger patty. I wonder if that's how they keep food costs down: using day-old burgers to enhance packaged bean sauce and calling it Chili... or if their kitchen is as sloppy as their waitstaff. I'll never know, because I'll never go back. Because this place is all about hamburgers. "Best Hamburger in Denver" their promo signs cry. Well, we had 2 of their hamburgers. They were dry, overpriced, and flavorless. I ordered bacon on mine, and I have had better bacon at BurgerKing. (In fact, this bacon looked like Burger King bacon, only less cooked.) The 'Novelty' paper wrapping of the burgers, served in a 'tray' with condiments was cute, albeit impractical, since it did make eating somewhat of a challenge. And it did NOT make up for the lack of flavor or quality. The burgers were also close to $12 apiece, versus Denver's (Sedalia) "Locals in the Know" spot, Bud's Bar's $5. I'd not even recommend "My Brother's Bar" as a last resort at 1 am: You'll find better eats at Taco Bell.

Nearby eateries open late (Midnight or Later) Where you will undoubtedly get a Better Burger:

The Cheesecake Factory, Midnight, 16th Street and Larimer.

The Cherry Cricket, 2 am, Clayton and 2nd Avenue

Pete's Kitchen, Colfax bet. High and Race St. (Forego the Burger Craving and grab a Gyro!)

Pros: Open until 1 am in a City that is Lacking in All-Nighters

Cons: Food, Service, Price

.

Horrible food, horrible service. While it may be historic, they lost all the atmosphere in the greasy food and rude waitstaff. The only reason they play classical music is to keep people from hanging outside the building. The only positive this place has to offer is that it sells girl scout cookies, which is great because I wouldn't recommend eating anything they make themselves.

My server was a pompous brat. She ignored us for the first 10 minutes we were there. She scoffed at me when i asked for a menu, it was our first time there and we didnt know the menu was on the wall behind us. Our table and chairs were sticky, its so dark and there are large windows allowing for too much bright glare that you cant see anything inside, we started laughing about something and our server reprimanded us as if she were my mother. It was jaw-dropping how rude she was. It is a dirty dive bar, and there are plenty of better dive bars in denver where i am allowed to laugh, drink a few beers, and actually watch a football game. Sorry Brothers bar, but you are the worst and dirtiest dive bar in Denver. If you want to clean up your act, you should start by hiring all new bartenders and waitresses.

I have never been treated so poorly as a paying customer! I can't express in words how offensive the service was. Not to mention the place was in unsanitary health conditions. I would like to make it a personal mission for everyone to know how bad of an experience we had. So spread the word, "NEVER GO TO BROTHERS BAR!!"

My Brother's Bar on Platte and 15th is definitely unique. It's Denver's oldest saloon still serving drinks at their original location (the original Highland House was opened in 1873). It's owned by brothers Jim and Angelo Karagas who bought it in 1970. There are no TV's, there is always classical music playing through the speakers - which is kind of funny given the place is known for it's old saloon decor, burgers, fries and pitches of beer. There is a great beer garden in the back which is a wonderful place to unwind with friends. Family friendly too.

It's as if you are entering a time machine when you walk into the dark, dungeon like dining room that is My Brother's Bar. I'm sure it hasn't changed much in the more than 100 years in existence. I've had almost everything on the menu, and my two favorites are the JohnnyBurger and the Moisha. The onion rings can't be beat, as well. The way they deliver the goodie basket with the food is genius...you can build your burger any way you like!

I was recently in Denver for a concert and by recomendation found this little place. I had a Johnny Burger and Onion Rings, couple beers and a 7&7. The burger was simply delicious. It's a great little bar, one of the best I've ever been to. They have a long list of beers on tap, most I had never tried. You wont find a Bud or a Coors here, but thats not a bad thing. The Server was so great, totally cool not pushing for a tip, which in turn got her a big one, I told her what kind of beers I like and she gave me a recomendation that was right on the money and freezing cold. My wife is a vegetarian, she had a grilled chese with 4 different kinds of cheese and a tomato with O rings and raved about it. They bring out your meal with a tray with all the condiments, peppers, relish, ranch.. the whole deal. The Atmosphere is fantasitc it's dimly lit, music at a level that you can have a conversation. This is the perfect place in Denver for a casual fun dinner with friends. Can't wait to get back to Denver, and back into this bar.

This is my favorite bar in Denver- I just wish they were open on Sundays. Really, if you know anything about REAL bars, you'd know that this qualifies as a classic. What's not to like? It's dark, it's old, they have good, stiff drinks and something other than watered down beers on tap, and it's for ADULTS, even though they do allow kids. Why, they even have a Mike Royko column framed and hanging by the bathrooms. For people who come from larger cities to Denver, this is likely to remind you of your neighborhood corner bar. The one where no one bothered you when you came in for a nightcap. I love the cheap wine, the hard drinks and the Ragin' Cajun tuna sandwich. I also have yet to find another Denver bar with popcorn. In Chicago, nearly every bar has it and I miss it. The only drawback is that they charge for it. If you enjoy an adult beverage among other adults, and like to eat late (kitchen is open until 1 a.m.), check out this Denver institution.

I went here this past weekend. I haven't been for years. It hasn't changed.

I am pretty picky when it comes to a burger. The Johnny Burger is out of this world. It has Jalapeno cream cheese, swiss cheese, american cheese and grilled onions. I personally like my burgers well done. It came out perfectly. I like the fact they bring out the condiment box if you want to dress it up even more. The bun is quality too. The onion rings and fries are good also.

The service was great. I had a screwdriver to drink. Plausible. If you are into beer, they have a great selection.

I would highly recommend going if you haven't done so.

Burgers are excellent. I'd say second best burger in Denver next to Cherry Cricket. However, it's a different style of burger than C.C. (more of a 'diner' style/taste) so, it's unfair to compare. They have a ton of quality beers on tap. The patio is awesome too. The two things that keep me from giving this the 5th star are: there are no games (I like pool and darts in a 'non-upscale' establishment like this place) and there are no beer specials (so, expect to pay $4+ per pint).

I have been going to this place for 25 years and I have never received a bad burger. The JC berger is my favorite and you can enjoy a large varity of brews. Saturday afternoon is a great time to go with your favorite person for a burger and brew and maybe bring the backgammon or chess boards and listen to the music and have a great time.

Saturday afternoon is a great time to go with your favorite person for a burger and brew and maybe bring the backgammon or chess boards and listen to the music and have a great time.

Pros: two thumbs way up - easy access, ambience, service

Cons: sometimes parking, crowds during lunch time

.

Freaking great place to grab a "Johnny Burger" and a stein. I've never had anything else there in the few years I've been visiting, but I can't imagine it being better than those two things.
I've been there so many times at this point, all the waiters know me and what to get when I say "The usual".

Pros: Awesome burgers, beer and relaxed atmosphere. They're also often open past 1am!

Cons: Nothing that I can easily think of.

My Brother's Bar is very convenient, has a stunningly pretty, tree-shaded patio, great, off-beat classical music, and enthralling local history (as evidenced by the Beat Poets newspaper articles in the phone booth). Some of their menu items are cheap and delicious. We go there all the time. Most of the time we have a great time... you just have to know what to order in order to NOT get ripped off. Burgers...you can't miss. Chicken tenders? 30 cents worth of frozen-then-baked chicken. Don't bother. Beer... another can't miss. Tequila shots? Actually watered down! Don't bother. The nachos, too, are just chips with processed cheddar and chopped red onions. All in all, it's a great place you should try; the atmosphere is a delight. Just be aware some of the menu items aren't all they're cracked up to be.

Being new to the city, I rely on these reviews when making a choice of where to go. I trusted the reviews of My Brothers Bar and was not dissapointed. Although I have had better burgers elsewhere, the jalepeno cream cheese burger was delicious. Love the box of condiments and probably the best onion rings I have ever tasted. We sat on the back patio and the atmosphere was exellent. My wife and I had probably our best night out at Brothers Bar since we moved to Denver a few months ago. We will definately be coming back, and will bring friends and family who come to visit for some good food and a few ice cold pints.

Classical music, juicy burgers - what's not to love? And that's not even counting the fact that this cool little watering hole sells Girl Scout cookies nearly the whole year 'round. That's right, they buy them from local troops and sell them to the customers. Too cool.

Food is so good. Not fancy, but oh so tasty.
I wake nights craving their jalepeno burger.
This is a truly fun place to take a group for some beer and yummy food served in paper. I highly recommend this bar... after all it is my Brother's Bar.

This is Food Snobs other choice for an OutRagiously GOOD Buffalo Burger ( and great bar ). I used to think the "Johnny", with cream cheese and jap peppers was named after me, but its the name sake of one of several brothers. ( one, I miss ) Great late night spot and yes, I find this little hangout romantic, even if the GREAT sandwhiches, dogs and Burgers all come to the table stacked on a plastic box full of glorious, fresh condiments.
Additionaly, classical music, a great wine selection and a killer bowl of chili add to the charm here.

I love My Brother's bar. If you are in the mood for a greasy burger this is the place to go to, absolutely delicious in that I know it's bad for me kinda way. Try the Johnny burger, it has swiss, cheddar, jalapeno cream cheese and grilled onions; heaven! I also love that they only serve good beer; you won't find any bud, coors or miller products here! Also the bartenders take good care of you, and pour some nice stiff drinks. The place seems to be family run, and it just has a good feel to it. Not to mention all the good karma they earn with the annual girl scout cookie sale. Highly recommended.

Pastrami on Rye sandwich and fries. After waiting about 15 minutes our meal finally arrived. To our shock the the sandwich was about the size of a hotdog bun but thinner. There was two slices of of thinly sliced pastrami and one slice of cheese. We thought that they had made a mistake and brought us a kids meal. Nope, this was the "regular menu sandwich". Keep in mind that the fries were not included in the price. $5.50 for this? No way. After a dicussion the manager and said "do me a favor, don't come back". I said, "not a problem". Like I'm going to return to a place that rips you off. I have been told the food is good but there are plenty of places within a couple of blocks that are far more generous and have a much better atmosphere.

How could you find fault with a bar where all the beer (and hard cider) is on tap, greasy burgers are cooked on a flattop, the bartenders will chat with you, classical music plays on the speakers, it isn't a meat market and as a woman you can feel comfortable walking in alone? You can't.

It's a bit expensive, but what isn't in this town?

For my money, it's a few pints of cider and a J.C.B., one of the most brilliant hamburgers I have ever eaten.

I lived in Denver a few years back and tis was one of my favorite places to go. Good burgers, great beer and how can you beat the patio? No the service isn't the most attentive, but the atmosphere in the restaurant in general is very nonportentious. It's the kind of place you might just have to wave to someone to get a refill of your beer. I loved the classical music, no fighting for parking, and that the kitchen was open late. Yup, the place is dark, and they allow smokers. We really enjoyed the "divey" feel combined with the local brews and quick food.

My Brother's Bar is located right next to REI, but it's been around more than 30 years. The bar features good sandwiches and drink specials, and classical music always plays in the background. For some inexplicable reason, you can also buy Girl Scout cookies year round here (which is good to know when you get that inevitable craving for Thin Mints and there's not a Girl Scout to be found.)

Excellent history - one of the oldest bars in Denver, and there's a framed letter from Neil Cassady (pic of himself and Jack Kerouac) asking a friend to pay his bar tab.

I love it because of the history, classical music, and people. It feels like a pub in England. You can actually hold a conversation with your friends rather than fight to be heard over the music.

The JCB Burger is not to be missed, and how can you resist the "caddy o'condiments"? My husband tries all of the beers and has many favorites, and I love My Brother's Bar for helping out a girl who is not a beer drinker. Luckily, I can drink hard cider and wine to my heart's content (excellent shiraz).

If you've tried it and hated it...well, good. More room for me. I'd rather slide into my favorite table and chomp on a JCB.

The burger was overpriced and unenjoyable. Server didnt even bring it to our table, the cook did. I ended up paying 30.00 for two burgers, two beers, and fries. The burgers and fries were both dry and tasteless. I went here because somebody reccomended the food. I am now at a loss as to why they reccomended that. The bar is okay, but don't go there for the food!

Burgers are excellent, something about the combination of jalapeno cream cheese and grease on the Johnny burger that has kept me from trying any of the others.
Fries and onion rings are way over priced, onion rings are good, fries come up lacking.
Every time I've been in there, the service has been... there. Don't expect a smile, or polite conversation.
The patio is great too, and the location of the place is great if you don't want to deal with downtown parking.

I can't believe this place got a 9.8. I was not impressed. Not a great choice of hamburgers. Prices are normal, except you have to pay for lettuce and tomato. French fries are extra. Not competitive with other burger places.

Good beer list. Service was terrible. Waitress served me a beer right away, and then about half hour later asked if I wanted anything to eat.

Classical music was nice. By the way, it was the William Tell Overture long before it was The Lone Ranger theme. (That's why it's called "classical" music). The patio is nice, but there are other places with patios that serve a better burger.

Why do I keep hearing about how great this place is? Do people like it just cuz they're too cool to put the name on the building? A dozen of us went, no one liked it. The four at my table specifically complained about the food and beer -- and we all ordered something different. Seriously, don't bother. I signed up to this site just to warn you... I have never reviewed a place before, it was that weak!

It was cold outside and their excellent chili definitely warmed me up. The sandwiches we got were pretty darn good too.

Good place for drinks after work. My husband and I went for dinner before a Broncos' game and it was one of the worst dinning experiences we've had. Food took forever and was not good. Service - there really wasn't any. Will never go again for food.

My wife and I recently visted My Brothers Bar looking for a Saturday Burger and Beer place. We were both disappointed because there was not any lettuce or tomato on the burger, the bun was dry and the beer was unrecognizable. The service was average and the waitress could not lead us in the right direction as to what beer we could get that was close to what we usually drink. Whats up with the orchestra music? The theme song to the Lone Ranger played while we ate. I thought the atmosphere was pretty dead. I guess the best thing about the place was the meat. It had a pretty good taste. Probably won't go back.
