At first the Academy was great for my kids. They had "Good" performances with backdrops, staging, costumes, etc. Then the last few years the number of shows dropped, the quality of the shows dropped, the props and backdrops became non existent and the costumes were ridiculous. Karen Lesser was rarely around anymore and the students were teaching the majority of classes with the same people as the main characters in all the shows. I would not recommend the academy to anyone.

Colorado Academy of the Arts in Fort Collins is a wonderful place for kids and young adults to develop (or learn from scratch) musical theater skills: singing, dancing, and acting. I was (and still am) very impressed at how much our sons learned -- in a short time -- once a play was cast. As a parent, I've loved watching every production!

Colorado Academy of the Arts has a 25 year history of producing outstanding musical theatre and dance performances. Directed by Karen Lesser and Janet Von Forrel, the CAA offers modern, tap, ballet, hip hop, and jazz classes for all ages and ability levels. There are also musical theatre classes for children in pre-school up through seniors in high school. The academy also offers a 50's performance group known as Encore, which provides opportunities for alumni or local college students to do local and regional performances. Performances are usually in the mini theater at the Lincoln Center, but their benefit concert, Caring for Kids, is performed once a year on the main stage. Colorado Academy of the Arts is a great way to get involved with local theater and dance, in a laid back, friendly setting.

Tucked away in the back of the bright-yellow building on Riverside is this dance studio. Classes for the public in Swing, Salsa, and more begin the 1st Thursday evening of every month and continue for 4 weeks. These classes are a great way to get started and go at your own pace. The teachers are upbeat and friendly, the atmosphere is laid back. Bring your own water - you will need it!
