Enjoyed my first visit, but not my second. I knew what I wanted and the first time I saw the server, I ordered my entree. I was still waiting 50 minutes later to receive it, while other diners around me that had ordered after me had already received their dinners. Bill was slightly off, too. I like how cozy and friendly the place can be, but I don't trust that I'm going to receive service worth paying for.

I've been there a couple of times for dinner and tonight was really not that good - I'll likely not go back:
Waiter forgot they had a bar, forgot that we needed glasses to go with drinks, forgot we were there at one point it seemed.

Food sucked - cold, lasagana was pretty skanky, my friend got a pasta/asparagus dish that barely had any asparagus on it. Salads looked like they were made for the munchkins - literally 2 bites of salad.

This was a fun place to stop and eat while shoppin on a Saturday in the Highlands. The food was really good but I have to say the tables were really close. They have a split level patio and honestly I had a woman's foot practically in my lap the whole time. Dining out is not the same when you hear everyones conversations, or they are listening to yours. It's too bad so many restaurants have to do this to make money. The food was really good, a great place for breakfast of lunch with some wonderful omelets.

I used to like this restaurant, but after several run-ins with rude customer service, I will most-likely not be returning.

Hands down one of the best restaurants in Denver! Authentic Italian food without the overpricing and tacky decor! Nestled into a cute house in the Highlands, Stella's has tasty food at reasonable prices. The back deck is a great place to grab a glass of vino while waiting for your table. They always have new desserts made fresh each day, definitely worth saving room for after dinner. Call ahead to check the wait, as there is limited seating and tables fill up quickly!

Why do we need another one? The owners have closed previously-innovative Cafe Star and are reopening it as Stella. I hope they at least save the beautiful bar! I just wish there were more corageous restauranteurs in this town that would open something less safe and boring. The last thing I need is to navigate another pasta and cream sauce menu. RIP, Cafe Star,,,

Cons: this town has way too many "Italian" restaurants

This restaurant is my favorite Italian restaurant since coming to Denver. It even rivals some I've been to in New York. Having lived and gone to school there, I'm a hard eater to please. First, I want to praise the lasagna. I have to watch my wieght, but every time I go, I just resign myself to the fact that I'm going to go home like Mr. Creosote in Monty Python, with no room for even a "wafer-theen mint". The lasagna is always slightly different, made with a different sauce each time. But each time, it is transcendent, the best I have ever had. In fact, this once included a sauce that I would normally not order, a puttanesca. I hate capers, and so this has never been my favorite kind of sauce, but I had been so impressed with their past lasagna dish that I tried it. And so now...I can't eat puttanesca anywhere else. The problem with capers is that they often overwhlem all other ingredients. This was perfectly balanced. I had the same experience with their White Chocolate Kahlua Bread Pudding. Not usually a bread pudding fan. Most places either dry it out or turn it into a mushy mess. This was springy, moist, warm and melty. I had no room left, but couldn't stop eating. And the price was absolutely reasonable, even in this economy. Now to address hygiene. I've read in a couple of reviews that it's not so clean, but I have to disagree. I've seen their kitchen, because it is open. And I've only ever seen close attention to keeping hot foods hot, cold foods cold, prevention of cross-contamination by separate and disinfected preparation surfaces, hand-washing, and utensil sanitation. I've heard complaints that they are not "traditional Italian". I grew up with "traditional Italians". Every person I know makes their dishes differently, in Italy, or here. It's basically traditional with a little twist. If my Italian friends had had access to ingredients like truffle oil, they'd probably use it. This is without question, my favorite place in Denver.

My wife and I recently moved to the highlands area from San Francisco. We heard from city search as well as other online reviews that Trattoria Stella was a good place so we decided to check it out Friday November 7. The menu is huge, we had trouble choosing from the various cream sauces, red sauces and pesto sauces. We started by splitting the pink lady salad, which was delicious. I ordered the 32nd street pasta and my wife ordered the italian sausage with roasted red pepers. Both dishes we loaded with flavor. The 32nd street pasta is a very unique dish with goat cheese and roasted pecans. For dessert we ordered the bread pudding because our server reccomended it. The bread pudding along with the rest of the meal was amazing. I was greatly impressed by this restaurant, the wait staff was friendly and helpful in answering questions. My wife and I look foward fequenting this restaurant!

what a treat. My husband and I moved into Highlands area recently and had heard rave reviews about Stellas. We finally went on Saturday nt and had a great time and loved our dinners. I had the special and my husband had the bolognaise . We shared a bread pudding for dessert and loved it so much we took one home to eat later. We will definitely go back. I'm so glad we have such a great restaurant in our neighborhood. The wait staff seemed to be having a good time and our service was excellent.

Pros: good food, can hardly wait to sit on the patio

We have been going here for a while now and love the place. My girlfriend and I went on our first date here - the best place for a first date. Recently, we were in a local store and ran into one of the waitresses from there and she recognized us remembering we left my girlfriend's sun glasses at the restaurant and said she put them aside for us. This is a true neighborhood place. It is so lively, really intimate and fun. Everyone who works here is very friendly and helpful - this is typical of the staff. The menu has so many great dishes it is hard to chose, you get excited just looking at all the options. We love to sit on the patio and watch the street life. Great wine list, even better desserts. There is a small patio in the back for drinks while you wait for a table. We love it!

My wife and I used to go to this restaurant regularly until we sat near the kitchen (which is visible from the dining area) and saw our waitress handling food after money, improperly handling glasses, dipping food in a sauce container and eating it, etc. The restaurant is filthy. The furniture, the floor, the salt shakers, my silverware, the glasses and dishes are all in need of a serious cleaning. The flies are out of control in the summer and constantly land on you and the table. One of the most serious problems we experienced was that my wife ordered a meal without the nuts that come on it, explaining her very serious allergy to nuts. We witnessed our waitress scrape off the nuts and whip cream from her meal and add more whip cream. My wife is extremely allergic to nuts and she can not eat food that has touched nuts in any way. This lax and careless attitude is typical of how they run this restaurant. I have no idea why this restaurant is so popular when it is so dirty and disgusting. I would not eat anything from here without inspecting the restaurant first.

OK the bad - this place is overated, as the food is not that great. However, it is probably my favorite restaraunt in the Highlands due to the atmosphere and outdoor seating. Expect not too pay that much and get a decent meal. This is a place to have some good times!

Wow, I'm glad I tried the restaurant before reading some of the bad reviews because it was one of the best meals and the best service I've experienced in a while! The waitress that served us was helpful, friendly, knowedgeable and attentive. It was a busy Friday night but we didn't wait long and our party of four was very, very pleased - so pleased we're going back in a few weeks. We sat inside on a cool night but even though the place is small it wasn't a bother to be close to other tables - just a touch noisy, but that's to be expected. Everything we had was great, and we all tried every dish, but mine was voted the best - the creamy/tomatoey/sausage sauce on pasta - can't recall the name but it was out of this world! and the desserts were wonderful too!

I had read the recent bad reviews on Stella's and decided to pass on it when my girlfriend wanted pasta. We went to Magianno's and there was a 2 hour wait so I decided to just drive by Stella's to see if we could get in. We got a parking spot right in front which is unheard of and then had no wait for a table for 2 at 7:30 PM on Saturday night.

We started with the carrot salad with gorgonzola dressing which was very nice. She had the 32nd st pasta and I had the sausage in tomato vodka cream sauce. Both were amazing. We finished with the sour cream apple pie which was the perfect balance between sweet and tart. I have never had a bad dessert there.

The service was prompt and cordial and we never waited for anything longer than a few minutes. I am not sure what happened that deserved the bad reviews but it seems like they have fixed whatever problems they may have had. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants great pasta at reasonable prices (our total tab, with a beer and glass of wine, came to $54).

Great food and service! Walked in at 6:30 on a Friday night and got a table for two with no problem. Cozy atmosphere. Didn't notice closeness of tables, perhaps because of my charming companion! Friendly servers. Extensive menu, and both our dinners were great. Looking forward to returning and bringing out of town guests. Forget Maggianos!

This was a huge disappointment. Just don't waste your money. If you want to have a great experience, try Cafe Star (amazingly it's owned by the same people). It's just that the service is SO terrible at Stella's. The review about the overweight blond woman was absolutely accurate. Just don't waste your money or time by going to Stella's. Food has gone downhill and the service is the worst in the industry.

For the last 5 years, Stella's had been my favorite restaurant, and my family and friends would dine here weekly. I have told everyone I know about this place, and have recommended it to at least 100 people. The creamy-sausage pasta is addictive, the atmosphere is quaint and unpretentious, and the service WAS so warm and pleasant. This all ended last week. I had some family in town and everyone was so excited to go to Stella's again...until we got there. We were greeted by the most unpleasant woman to have ever worked in the industry, especially at our favorite restaurant. She was rude, aggressive, and very confrontational. Personally I had never seen her working there, but she certainly seemed as if she owned the place and didn't care what anyone thought. When she took our appetizer order a member of our party had asked about the roasted garlic. She snapped at the woman, speaking to her as if she were a child, indicating that it had been off the menu for 2 years, but we had it 1 month ago during lunch!!! Then, while listing off the specials, a member of our party quietly repeated the words 'meat sauce' to her husband (who hadn't heard her clearly), and the waitress completely stopped speaking and stared-down the woman for over 30 seconds, making everyone VERY uncomfortable. That same woman in our party didn't even order an entree because she was scared that the waitress would taint it. The rest of our meal was just as unpleasant. The antics continued until we left, it was non-stop discomfort. This was simply the worst experience I have ever had. It ruined our meal, plain and simple. I don't think I will visit Stella's again, and I certainly will never recommend it to anyone. The food will remain wonderful, but not at the price of sitting at the mercy of this woman. If you do visit Stella's, please be wise and call ahead and make sure that the blond woman (who is probably in her early 40's and a bit overweight) is not working. You will thank me.

Stella Trattoria is one of the finest Italian restaurant Denver, CO has to offer. Great food, inviting staff and an atmosphere not much different from your own home, in fact its location is a remodeled home. From their Tomato Vodka, 32nd St Pasta and mouth watering desserts Stella's is truly a unique taste of Italy only a connoisseur of delicious food and warm atmosphere could appreciate.
I have written this short blurb only out of curiosity for other Italian restaurants in Denver and stumbled upon two very sad and distasteful reviews posted recently of Stella's that made a warm, rich and fruitful bottle of wine seem cheap!
Simply put, Stella's is in a class of its own. From the menu to the staff to the atmosphere, Stella's can't be beat. Try it out sometime and please, when dinning, stay off your cell phone. Those with you want to spend time with you.

Everything about my experience at this restaurant was bad. Will someone please tell the staff at Stella that they are in the SERVICE industry and that no matter how busy they get they are not as fantastic as they think they are. The menu actually states "server will not approach the table if you are on your cell phone." I have no problem not being on my phone, this IS rude, but come on!

It took all my energy to keep the flies away from my table, my elbows got stuck to the table and the server could not be bothered to provide half way decent service. I have been to this restaurant several times and without question: the downward spiral is complete. What a shame. The menu and location have so much potential

We used to like this restaruant when it was clean - the tables and floors are scary dirty. We used to enjoy the friendly hard working staff. We didn't enjoy the new found self importance there. Check out their cell phone policy. Let's see.....Attitude, dirt, and marginal food....and several fabulous restaurants within walking distance....life is good....

On a Friday night you realize that you are going to wait awhile with a group of 4. BUT.... you expect to be told you are going to wait. We showed up at 7pm and were told there would be a little wait. One hour and fifteen minutes later we finally sat down. Within that hour and fifteen minutes, we ordered a bottle of wine and did not receive it. We asked how much longer and were told there were only 2 more groups in front of us but they probably didn't wait. Those groups did wait and we watch them sit down. There were no apologies, nothing. Just a bunch of people with their heads down. Once sat the service was on the slow side. If the dinner would have started off on the right foot, I would say it was a good place to have a leisurely al fresco dinner. However, I have to say it was just an ok dinner that took a really long time.

On a Friday night you realize that you are going to wait awhile with a group of 4. BUT.... you expect to be told you are going to wait. We showed up at 7pm and were told there would be a little wait. Tried Stella's recently on a Saturday night with no reservation. Had to wait about 10 minutes for a table of two. Once seated, our waiter was very attentive. The brie appetizer, pasta, salad and dessert we ordered had the most wonderful flavor! The tastes reminded me of another favorite restaurant, Cafe Star. Later I was told by a friend that the two restaurants share the same owner (I don't know if this is actually true or not). The restaurant is small and cozy, a great romantic spot for 2 or 4. This was the best meal we had had in a long time and we can't wait to go back!

Pros: Excellent food, cozy atmosphere

Cons: Parking (to be expected at that location)

Great food, and really good service too. I would highly recommend this place. Not for big groups though.

Good food , ok sevice, but don't bother coming with a group of 3 or more! I had a bad experience about amonth ago with a group of 4. they don't take reservations but " you can call and put your name on the waiting list up to 30 min. before you arrive" they told me. So what! here is the deal , the place is so small if you try to go on a saturday night at 7 the place is full so you wait for one of the few 4 top tables. which dosn't get free until 9:00pm. We got there at 7 after calling 30. min. ahead, the host told us it would be 40 min we waited and waited finally got seated at 9:15 no aplogies, no free drinks, nothing. So either get there first at 5:30 or go there at 9:00 if you have a 3 or more because they will give you a line of BS about the wait time because they don't want you to leave. 2 people dining is a whole different story.

i think that this is the best brunch place in denver. (besides dazzle, which is a cheaper alternative) stella has the most delicious bellini's to compliment any of the entree choices. all of the strata's are delicious, as well as the crepes. the crab / lobster bennie is always fantastic. they have a very innovative menu pairing goat cheese, fruites, and delicious flavors all together.

This delightful neighborhood spot in the Denver Highlands at 32nd and Lowell is just bursting with memoralbe experiences within its understanded facade. Everytime I eat at Stella I'm delighted by the variety of flavors and innovative dishes. I usually order from the specials menu, because the offerings are so inventive, but I can recommend the Fried Risotto Ball Appetizer as well as anything from the dessert menu will surely please you.

Stella is incredibly reasonable for its gourmet reputation. Its intimate and quiet and on lovely spring evenigns has the best outdoor seating in town.

Coming from the Italian District of Boston Massachusetts where authentic ingredients and generations of immigrants reign Stella does not disapoint.

Trattoria Stella is an outstanding small-scale eatery in a neighborhood that is currently changing quite a bit. It's a great choice in an area with lots of good choices. Seats around 30, small, cozy and romatic. My husband and I live in Ft. Collins, but we always make it a point to visit Trattoria Stella at least twice monthly. I have never had a bad dish here, but my favorite is the lunch-time creamy sausage sandwich. Yes, the name sounds like it would be terrible, but the dish is positively addictive! I'm also a fan of their lasagna specials, particularly their lasagna that uses asparagus and a sauce with a bit of a kick--definitely not your mother's lasagna, and I mean this in the very best way. Staff are friendly and knowledgable, and you definitely get the feeling that someone in the back is cooking everything up just for you. An incredible treat for those who live in the area, and a great place to take out of town guests. Service has never been slow for me, no mater how crowded the place gets. I can't tell you how many times my husband and I have wasted our money on more expensive restaurants--you will not be disappointed at Trattoria Stella.

I've taken friends to Stella's for Brunch through the years, and they've all been impressed. They have delicious Peach Bellinis to go with your breakfast polenta. Take note, however, as they don't take reservations, and the wait on Sunday morning can be upwards of an hour. But now that you know that, take the hour and stroll around the shops in Highland Square.

Not impressed. The service was extremely slow--we had to wait 30 minutes for one of two availbe tables to be cleaned off. The bread was fine. The olive oil and balsamic was run-of-the-mill. The service never picked up. I ordered the special which was two lamb chops over a few stuffed raviolis. The ravioli was fine but I was told at the last moment that they were out of lamb chops. So I felt I had no choice because we couldn't wait another hour for another dish and the waiter said she'd take off part of the price of the entree. My wife's pasta was okay, but there was way too much oil, nuts and dried cherries. The pre-grated cheese was way subpar. In the end I was compensated $4.00 on a $17 dish when the main piece was missing. (Next time, I'll think of having the $4 lamb chops.) Bad showing guys. The fried rissotto cakes were nothing special either. Not bad, but wouldn't return unless someone else was buying.

My favorite restuarant in Denver. I've been there dozens of times, and the food is always great and affordable. My favorite dish is currently the Pesto Cream Fusili, and I like it with a bit of chicken breast for a little more protein. My former favorite, which I hope will make a comeback, was the pork loin pasta with a tomato cream sauce, and my husband's favorite was the ravioli fungi. Also, the lasagna specials tend to be excellent as well.
For an appetizer, the warm gorgonzola spread is wonderful, and the salads tend to be tasty as well, not to mention the tomato bisque soup.
Dessert never disappoints- I love the bread puddings (excpet I'm not a white chocolate fan so I haven't tried the one with white chocolate), the roulottes are always heavenly, and the mousse is so good I dream about it sometimes.

We met two other couples for dinner at Stella's a few weekends ago. The food was great. Three of us got the nightly special which was linguine and clams. It was so good. I also ordered a dinner salad and asked the server which dressing was best. She recommended a vinegarette that was phenomenal! It was a great night. If you're going on a weekend night I'd highly suggest reservations - this place seats about two dozen and fills up quick; we saw quite a few people waiting for a long time. It also gets pretty loud in there so if you're with a big group you may not be able to hear each other. We loved it though, and will be back.

Tried this Highlands eatery last Friday evening for dinner. Had no reservation but was seated within 15 minutes. The outdoor patio where we were seated is crowded but charming. We stared with the warm Whipped Gorganzola & Walnut Spread. It was sensational! Very creative as well as delicious. For my entree I tried the 32nd Avenue Pasta - an imaginative dish featuring goat cheese, walnuts, dried cherries, and shrimp. Believe it or not, the flavors work well together. The wine list was limited, but appropriate and affordable. The service was a little slow and inconsistant, otherwise the dinner was a great experience.

This is a place we frequent on the weekends for brunch. Everything is always delicious. The italian bean breakfast is to die for. Dont miss out on the dessert either. Service is always super friendly. Feels very homey to me. If you like Bloody Marys then look no further, the mix is made in house. My only complaint is that the place is too small!

That's all there is to it. Stella's is so so so good. The food is amazing. I would highly recommend the baked brie appetizer and the 32nd Street Pasta. Make sure you save room for dessert because all of them are spectacular.

I love that the menu is always creative. Although service can be a little pokey, the servers are always really friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that you never know when you show up if you'll be seated immediately or have to wait an hour. If they could add about 10 tables, it would be awesome. This is one of my regular date places.

Great spot for brunch - especially in the Spring/Summer and you can sit on the patio. All the omelettes are great and the Vege Bene is fantastic!

I had heard great things about Stella's and took my family there when they visited from out of town. We were totally unimpressed. Every choice was pasta, and the ones we got were nothing to write home about. Won't be going back.
