Do not go to this tanning salon. Darq Tan or Palms. It may be a little pricier but you are not being lied into a 12 month contract. And getting ahold of someone in corporate is like a needle in a hay stack! All they do is lie lie lie lie

The manager was absolutely down right awful to me. I was very pleasant while asking her a few questions and I can honestly say I have NEVER met anyone in the customer service field that was so mean. Even if she was having a bad personal day....it wasn't my fault and it should not have been taken out on me. I will never return. I am a hairstylist in this area and will tell everyone I can about this company. p.s. I was so bothered by this experience that I called back to ask if there was someone above her I could speak to and her response.."There is no one above me and it doesn't matter if there was because I have credibility."

Who responds to s customer that way?

hello everyone. despite reading the reviews - and only one good review, i decided to check out this salon since it was close to my home. First, she was dishonest about my contract - yes it was 12 months with 20 enrollment fee but didn't tell me my first month was 39.90 - this is all for the regular beds - and, might I say, they are NOT the best beds in town.

upon reading my lengthy contract carefully, I am able to cancel my account within 24 hours. I've emailed Customer Care twice. I also tried calling them and eventually leaving a voice message that I'm pretty sure no one will pick up.

I've contacted my bank letting them know that this is a scam and although this charge of 63 bucks is pending on my account, it should not go through as my bank is pretty good about fighting back on stuff like this.

the customer service was so rude. when she told me what my cost was, i was like 'that's 20 dollars more than you originally said'. she tried to force me to buy a 64.95 a month membership and TOLD me that's what i was going to do. I politely said, no, that's NOT what i'm going to do with my money. i'm sorry but no one should pay that much a month just for tanning. it's ridiculous.

i ended up waiting 20 minutes to tan since she put in several other people, then I had to buy eye goggles.

i tried to go into this with an open mind, thinking maybe this one person who wrote in was true, but this place is such a scam and i sincerely hope it gets shut down.

SCAM artists, I can't believe they are still around. Signed up for a month-to-month membership to "try out". Was told I can cancel anytime for $75. Turns out it was a two year loan commitment. It's making my credit history go down, because of revolving balances. I don't believe them! Called multiple times, everyone was a moron. I asked why I was never given a federal disclosure for the loan, they just put me on hold and hung up. Called multiple times, no responses no one calling me back! I need money for a lawyer!! SICK JOKE!

My wife likes to tan. When we lived in Denver, CO, she signed up for a membership at a place called Bronze Works. Nice place, good reviews, and a decent deal. Somewhere along the line Bronze Works sold out to a company called At the Beach. There were no real changes in her experience as a customer, so she stayed on.

In August of 2007, we moved to Missouri to be close to family. My wife's last time tanning, she told the front desk that she was moving out of state, and to cancel her membership. (Bronze Works didn't require the whole, lame "Send us written notice in 30 days..." blah-blah, so she didn't). The front desk acknowledged her with an "Okay, thanks" or "Good luck" or some such. Nothing was communicated to her that made her think she'd need to do more.

After the move, I was going over my credit card bill, checking U-haul charges and so forth, and noticed a Bronze Works charge on my card with a phone number of 573-374-9970. Well, our new area code was 573, so I figured my wife had just started tanning locally.

In May 2008, the Bronze Works charge was renamed "At the Beach" on my credit card bill. (Mind you, this change in billing took place almost 2 years after the name of the company changed hands.) I found this odd, and I asked my wife about it. We called the number, and we then found out it was a billing company that just happens to be in the same part of Missouri that we moved to, but they were billing for the Denver store.

I called the store, and naturally I was referred to the corporate offices at 866-690-9080. No one answered, so I left a message for the accounting department.

The following week, I received a return call from the corporate office manager (405-752-8809). I explained my situation, as asked if she could help me out. Immediately those 2 words came out: "company policy."

Company policy: "We require 7 day advance notice in writing." I explained that my wife was not informed of this policy either when companies changed hands nor when she informed the desk staff of her move. The response from the charming lady was, "We're you there for that conversation, sir?"

When a person in customer service starts cross-examining the customer like a bad Law and Order episode, you know you're going to have problems.

I replied that even so, I would have contacted the company by writing, if I had any inkling that At the Beach Tanning in Denver Colorado was siphoning money out of my account, but my credit card was reading Bronze Works with a central Missouri area code. Could she see at least where this honest mistake could have come from? Her reply: "Well, if it were me, I would have paid much closer attention to my credit card bill." Nice...

I asked again, stating that I was sure that she could see how easily the oversight could have been made. I had not used their services since July 2007, and wouldn't it be fair to give me a break. "I'm sorry, I can't" was her reply. I said, "I believe you can, but you are actually telling me that you won't. There is a difference." She then hid behind the "Company policy" shield again.

I then asked to speak to her supervisor. She said she didn't have one. "I am the corporate office manager," she informed me. I rephrased: "To whom do you answer, then?" The owner. I then asked for his name and contact information. I was given the address of the corporate office. Anybody wanna guess who is the filter for all of Mr. Belt's (the owner's) correspondence?

Before hanging up, I implored her to "do the right thing here." She assured me there was nothing she could do. I thought to myself, "Actually you could refund the money you stole from me without any service in return."

One last time I said, "Before I hang up, I just want to ask you one last time to show some good faith, some integrity on behalf of your company." She wouldn't. It seems keeping my money was more important to her than her own character or her company's good name.

You are not able to cancel your membership. I have been trying to fight this for 6 months now. I am not able to use the beds. i tried the mystic tan and it is horrible. They will not cancel my membership and sent me to collections. I am trying to put together a case against them. If you have a similiar experience- email me please

I can honestly say that I have never had such awful customer service anywhere. I received a mailer for a week of free tanning here and when I took it into redeem it the girl said that I could not use it unless I bought a package. I told her I just wanted to tan twice before my honeymoon and she told me that it would be ineffective for me (I have been tanning for years and tan very quickly-and have never burned). She recommended again that I buy a package-when I said I wouldn't and that I just wanted a regular bed she begrudgingly "allowed" me to purchase one session. She told me she would only allow me to tan for 8 minutes (the max is 20 minutes)- I honestly think she was trying to make sure I didn't get results. When I was in the bed for my 10 minute session (I had to argue to get even 10 minutes)- I swear that she subtracted 2 minutes off of my time. DO NOT TAN HERE> THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AWFUL!

I wish I would've checked out the citysearch reviews on this place before I signed up.

Like others, I went in to sign up for a few sessions before a trip to Mexico. The woman at the front desk was funny and flirtatious, gave me a tour of the place, and suggested I sign up for a 12-month contract, because I'd get the best price. She said I could put it on hold, and even cancel it if I moved away or just decided I didn't want it any more. The benefit, she said, was that the excellent price would be locked in.

What the heck, I thought, and agreed. She filled out the contract, kindly pointed out where to initial here, here and here on the contract, all the while keeping up a stream of conversational patter. It wasn't until I was talking to a friend later about the place that he told me "dude, you got ripped off. I signed up with them when they first opened, and they totally screwed me over." He told me that he'd been tricked into a 24-month contract, that they wouldn't let him cancel even when he moved a good thirty-miles away from the place, and that he finally just stopped paying them, credit report be damned.

I checked my contract, and almost couldn't believe my eyes: that lying rep at the front desk had filled out a TWO YEAR contract. TWO YEARS?? Why the hell would I want a tanning salon membership for two years? I raised holy hell at the location (she wasn't nearly as friendly when I came back) and to their unbelievably horrible corporate office, but no go. I signed the contract, they're holding me to it.

Unlike my buddy, I like my clean credit report, and I guess I just have to swallow the fact that I was scammed good and proper. This place isn't interested in helping you tan, they're a sleazy con operation. I've learned a very expensive lesson: don't be taken in by a friendly face, and read the fine print, every time. Oh, and that "excellent price"? It's dropped, considerably, since I signed my two-year contract.

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Pros: I learned a lesson about getting ripped off.

Cons: I was lied to, cheated, and ripped off ... and I'm not the only one.

Can you not just walk in the door and go to the tanning bed anymore? There was so much hassle involved with this experience from the beginning. (tour, contracts, purchasing the protective eyewear, lotion) I clearly let them know I was only interesting in tanning a few times to get ready for a trip. I let them talk me into a month contract- this is a bad idea, don't do it! I cancelled the contract exactly one month later and the second monthly payment was still taken out of my account. I was just informed from the crappy customer service office that I can not get my money back. I may have to change my checking account to avoid paying them next time. This continues to be a hassle!!!! Definitely not worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am writing this in order to make people aware of how shady At the Beach really is. Not only are the contracts rediculously long but they are unexplaned by untrained employees and misleading. Trying to get out of this contract has been a nightmare! I don't want to go into what I had to indure thus far, hopefully people will read this and understand what unfair business practices these people are running. Never sign a contract without reading it fully for yourself and ask questions!!!

I was looking forward to getting a nice tan for a trip to Florida in March.
Signed up and bought the lotion at the Foriday & Parker Road location.
Well they have not been open in them morning (after 7:30) at least five times now.
Called corporate and got awful customer service from Monica.
Will not even discuss canceling my contract (12 months)
If they aren't open I can't use it.

I signed up for a 12 month membership last January. In April, when I pulled my credit report, I found that At The Beach had listed me as having a 24 month membership. This was annoying because it took a few days (and lots of time on hold) to get this cleared up. Now, it is January 2008 and, according to my contract, my membership is onnly valid through 1/10/08. However, ATB coprorate (a very unhelpful Cindy and Monica) said my contract was actually 13 months and that I had to pay for this January, too! Even though the contract says 12 months, they are charging me for 13 becuase I made the mistake of paying for my first month in store (which they people at the store told me I had to do) and now ATB says I'm "financing the next 12 months" ...which means it really is a 13 month contract! there are plenty of other tanning salons in Denver- don't waste your money here because they will try to weasel more out of you with their shady contracts and poor customer service.

First of all this place is a scam. You don't sign a membership with them you sign with their collections agency. You can't cancel your membership unless you move 50 MILES away and even then the money hungry morons running this place won't cancel it. They are very rude and I felt like I was at a used car lot. Do not sign on for their membership unless you want 34.88 taken out of your account no matter what for the next two years. There's HIGH employee turn over so new sales pressure everytime you come in. When I was there they didn't even educate me on the dangers of tanning, just how great it was and that I should be in there everyday. Sweet guys, way to promote skin cancer. I understand tanning is not exactly healthy but I would rather be at a salon where they were concerned with my health and well being rather than JUST my money. I would recommend going to Darque Tan just on 12th and Speer. They have similar beds and a much better sales staff.

Pros: They have tanning beds

Cons: Pressure to buy, only educate on the "good" of tanning, dirty salon, not trustworthy

At The Beach is unprofessional, dishonest and they have no concept of what quality customer service is. My first visit there, the attendant did NOT explain that face lamps can be adjusted, put me in a higher level bed than I should have been in and I was burned - bad. I complained to corporate (which ignored my calls, e-mails, etc. for nearly one month) and requested that they cancel my 2-year contract. Come to find out, not only would they NOT cancel it - despite the fact that this incident was THEIR fault because all the attendant had to do was explain how the bed worked to a new customer) that resulted in me getting burned - but they also had lied to me when I signed up saying that you could cancel at anytime as long as you give 30 days' notice. Actually, if you read the fine print, you can only freeze your account (and they charge you extra) if you give them 30 days notice - and they will only freeze it for three months and continue to charge you after for the remainder of your contract. From the local store on up to corporate level, this company has a track record of bad customer service. Do some research - 232 complaints have been filed against this biz. Read for yourself - most of the complaints were unresolved and At The Beach is not a recognized member of certain biz bureaus. If you read the complaints here under Bronze Works - bought out by At The Beach - you'll quickly see the transformation from good reviews to terrible reviews. It's no coincidence. I found equally bad reviews in other cities that they have stores.

DO NOT sign a contract (especially not a long-term contract) and DO NOT trust these people. They're nice when they sign you up, but could care less about you after they've got your name on the dotted line. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! It's not worth the hassle, the disrespect and the upset. They told me it was my fault and that "you better not fight us because we'll win." Real professional...

Pros: Absolutely None

Cons: Bad Customer Service, Contracting, Dishonesty, Negligence

I told the customer service rep at the Englewood location that I didn't know how many minutes I should go into the bed, since I have very light skin and it was my first time in this particular bed. He put me in a bed for double what I should have (I found out later) and I fried like a lobster. I was unable to tan for the first two weeks of my four week package and their manager 1st almost got me hooked into a 2 year contract (his way of making things right) and then hung up on me when I called for help with the situation. I will never use them for my tanning needs again and recommend that you don't either.

I've used Bronzeworks for over 2 years and couldn't be happier. When I moved south of Denver I tried a couple salons closer to my home, but they couldn't even come close to meeting the quality of Bronzeworks.
