Wow, okay, So I'd made reservations,
through opentable, the evening before we'd wanted to go here.
Sure my party and I were excited, we'd heard good things.

well, when we got there I was like "wow, sure seems packed" So I check in with

For mussels its amazing. Their salads are fab too, but some entrees are heavy on the oils and butter. If you are at all concerned about your weight or on a reduction diet, stick to the mussel and skip the butter and bread. Their salads

This is a quaint and romantic little bistro right in the heart of downtown. The lit patio in the summer provides a lovely escape, you will feel transported to a Parisian cafe. The macaroni and cheese and the french fries are not to be missed.

When the waiter suggested the Galette de Confit de Canard because it was "the french version of a grand slam breakfast" my mouth started to water. Duck, potatoes, fried eggs and a lavendar sauce sounded delicious to me. When the meal arrived it was overcooked and dripping with grease. But, because we had waited over an hour for a table (even though we had a reservation) I was starving and I devoured the entire greasy mess. I have been sick to my stomach for the last 24 hours. Two other members of our party were also sickened by their meals. This was probably the worst brunch experience I have ever had. The hostess was rude and disorganized, the manager was even worse and the food literally made us all sick. I will never, ever visit Bistro Vendome again.

Bistro Vendome, it appears that most people frequent this place at night and not for brunch - if you have thought of trying this place for brunch i would suggest you look elsewhere. We have been to this restaurant twice for brunch and to celebrate family and friend's birthdays and have been utterly disappointed with the experience. First time we went the kitchen forgot our order and left us waiting 45 minutes, then when they finally did bring out the food it was not served to our table at one tme which at a restaurant is totally unprofessional.

The second time we came for brunch it took an hour to get seated, despite having made reservations due to our party being 5 people. During our hour long wait and seeing parties of 4 people being seated quite quickly, we were left sitting waiting with no kind of apology The general manager was unhelpful and really appeared to have no control over her staff or any kind of acknowledgement that there had been a mistake. To accomodate us one of the staff put a chair at a table that was set for 4 right at the end of the hallway and we ended up seating ourselves. Even our waiter who was finally assigned to us was more responsive to our frustrations than the hostess or the general manager.

So on to the food - overpriced for the quality, incredibly greasy, the eggs were overcooked, the potato pancakes burnt and presentation of the food was mediocre. As it was now nearly lunchtime I ordered their burger, again incredibly greasy, tasted more of cooking oil than meat with "sweet" tasting french fries.

Overall for brunch I would say this place has a long way to go and the atmosphere is more like the mad hatters tea party - brunch is supposed to be a fun non stress time and for the price we paid i think there are a lot better alternatives with attentive staff and food that does not appear to have all been cooked in a deep fat fryer.

Decided to eat here after reading a lot of good reviews from 5280 and citysearch. Was not disappointed. Had to wait a while for a table, but the bartender, Max, was great and we were comped a drink for the wait. The food was amazing. Yes, you will spend about $20 per plate (sides and salads $4-6 extra), but it is worth it. You can tell there is a great deal of care that goes into preparing the food. My wife had the classique steak frites--she doesn't normally eat red meat and she loved it. I had the trout--it was absolutely delicious. The service was first rate...our friendly server provided honest and useful advice on the menu, recommending what was tasting good that night. All told, with drinks, soup, salad, entrees, dessert, and tip, we spent $88 and it was worth every penny.

Oy vey, where to begin? Bistro Vendome has obviously never heard of the phrase "don't mess with perfection." If you say you're going to do French then do it! I'm going straight to the food because there is no point in wasting time dwelling over the useless, devoid of joy wait staff or the quaint, albeit obvious, interior design. I ordered the steak with eggs, pomme frites, and bearnaise sauce. I received my over easy eggs with four small bites of steak. A.) I'm a big girl, and can cut my own steak, and B.) give me more steak!. Luckily the eggs were cooked correctly. The bearnaise was no where to be seen on my eggs, so I asked for a side of it. Bearnaise should be a thick, gloppy dose of all that is good in the world: clarified butter, egg yolks, shallots, tarragon, etc. I was brought a sad little teaspoon of some watery, puss-colored substitute. I saved the best for last. How do you mess up french fries? Traipse on down to Bistro Vendome and they will give you a step-by-step lesson. My french fries were tossed with sugar. I so wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. I hoped that one of their cooks had made the rookie mistake of switching sugar for salt. No no...they tossed my pomme frites with sugar on purpose! I was not previously warned by my lifeless server, but when I asked her if they were sweet or if I was losing my mind she looked at me with a "duh" expression on her face. I hope the "ew" expression on my face didn't offend her too much. I'm not even close to being French and I was insulted by the outright neglect of staying true to the cuisine that defined all other cuisines. It was as if Bistro Vendome's chefs had never been to France, had never eaten good food, and had completely missed French cuisine class in culinary school. I had been a patron once before for their dinner service and I shared the same sentiments then. Au revoir Bistro Vendome!

P.S. They mispelled a French culinary term on their window.

Pros: I love Larimer Square

Cons: Bistro Vendome is in Larimer Square

Stepping into this French bistro in Denver but it is not much different then a Parisian bistro. The food is excellent. The bistro has a beautiful patio. The brunch is definitely worth a visit.

I will go to this bistro every time I am in Denver.

Very highly recommended - whether you're looking for a romantic dinner, great French cuisine, an excellent wine list fairly priced or even brunch, this is the place. I've been many times as a twosome, or with friends, and each time better than the last. Sitting outside under the tree and white lights in the summer is hard to beat anywhere in Denver. The staff is professional and efficient and well versed in what they're selling, which can be difficult when describing niche wine selections from France. Start light with the Charcuterie and then move on to either the venison, veal cutlet or steak bearnaise. Finish with a glass of red wine and assiette de fromages and the experience is complete. And the icing, this is far and away one of the best locations in Downtown, nestled in quiet corner of Larimer Square, which makes the value even more surprising. Like myself, you'll want to try it again.

This is a good place for food. It is on the small side. Excellent selection of French wines. The staff is very knowledgeable. Classic French Bistro fare. I will be going back.

The food was delicious, the service was great. We chose everything our waiter suggested, and it was splendid, including the wine. We had steak tartare and foie gras for starters, and scallops and duck for entrees. The food melted in our mouths, the seasoning and preparation was perfect! We loved it! We will return on the terrace this summer for a romantic French dinner in the charming courtyard.

Our family of four dined at Bistro last Sunday. Eggs perfectly cooked, asparagus firm and flavorful, children enjoyed the fruit waffle. The food's good, but the best part is the ambience--giant windows, wood floors, high ceilings and a well-gardened, tucked-away patio. Right in the heart of Denver, but it feels like Paris. . .

We went to dinner on our anniversary on 1/7/06 and had a wonderful dinner. We both ordered the Steak Frites, Classique. My wife likes here steak with only a little pink. The steak temperature was perfect. We loved the frites as well. The owner threw in two complementary glasses of champagne. The service was excellent. The atomosphere was lovely. We had such a good time, we went there again a couple of weeks ago. We ordered the same thing. Everything was fine up to the time we received our steaks. When we ordered, we emphasized to the server how important it was that my wifes steak was well done with just a hint of pink or we would send it back. When the steaks arrived, my wife's steak was medium rare with a cool center. It was also sliced? I've never seen steak presented sliced. When we sent the steak back, the server argued that it was well done. The steak was so bloody that my wife didn't want another entre or to have them fix it. In summary, I would say that the atomosphere is great, the service is satisfactory but the food has recently taken a tumble.

This is the best place to sit outside in Denver! Tucked away in a cozy corner I LOVE brunch there! I think they have the BEST bloody mary I have ever had the frites with champagne vinegar are addictive! The croissants are to die for, so order them as soon as you sit down! Favorite place to spend a Sunday morning!

Great food however the space is slightly small. The tables are small and have no leg room. Service and food are wonderful and makes up for it. I would go for just two or even four but not for a whole group. Can get too crowded for the group.

I have been in about a dozen times now and the more I go, the more I enjoy it. I am not a huge fan or the brunch, but I'm not a huge brunch fan. Everyone I go with loves it. It's casual enough to wear jeans, but a suit fits in as well.
Some of the servers are better than others. The guy with the fake French accent is a tool, but the majority of the staff is very good. The service is casual but very good by Denver standards.
The daily specials are always worth checking out. They do nice work with duck, but I've had rabbit that has been a little over cooked. The mussels are some of the best in Denver and the wine list is well selected and not over priced.

Please do yourself a favor and ignore the negative reviews for this restaurant. The service may be a bit slow for the McDonald's crowd, but for a person who enjoys a civilized, delicious, romantic dining experience, Vendome is one of the best. As someone who is PASSIONATE about great food, Vedome is at the top of my list and a refreshing offering in a town which at time caters a bit much to beer drinking football junkies. Now let's talk about the food for a moment...Amazing, beautiful! Go there for the Sunday all-you-can-eat mussels and frites - a great deal. Sunday brunch with freshly baked croissants, bellinis and french presse coffee in their charming courtyard is also a must. Good wine list also. Desserts are stunning. The ambiance is very Pastis of NYC, elegan, casual, unpretentious. I'm moving away from Denver shortly and I wish I could take Vendome with me!

It was a very warm night and we were sitting outside - perhaps this effected our experience - nothing impressive or supporting all the rave. Very Average. We were sharing our appetizers but our waiter did not warn us about Salade de Crabe - its impossible to share. It was served with no spoon (!) and the sorbet melted before we got to it. It was a mess.
Service was not very friendly except for our waiter - everybody else appeared tired, bored and wanting nothing to do with us. A girl serivng us water was not smiling and did not acknowledge us talking to her at all. We left a 20+% tip because we are just nice - wish the service and this place trully deserved it.

If your going to call yourself a "French Restaurant" then get the traditional fare down at least! The tartar was gross, the escargot was bland and boring, the steak au poiver was over done and nothing like it is suppose to taste. Le Central is half the price and just as good. I will say that the service was very good, and our server had a good knowledge of wine.

Went out for 5280 week and it was a bullseye. Great wine recommendations, food was incredible! Our server Gary was a blessing and happy to accommedate us even though we were his last table late on a Sunday night. The tartar was perfect, I've never had better in Denver. Beautiful atmosphere, I look forward to returning in the summer for some sweet sweet patio action!

I was supposed to go to my favorite French restaurant in Vail on my birthday...the day after valentines day. But 70 was closed so i had to make alternate plans at the last min. My boss....a professional Chef...recommended Bistro Vendome. I was able to make a reservation online which was very convenient! We were running late for our reservation so i called ahead to let the hostess know. When we got there almost 20 min late because of parking and traffic, we were still seated immediately! Our waiter was very knowable. He knew the menu very well and made some suburb recomendations on our food and our wine. I was very impressed. The terrine of fois gras was amazing! The onions went great with it really complimenting the flavors of the fois gras the arugula salad was perfectly seasoned and dressed and was a very nice accompaniment to the fois gras. I had no problem eating it with my fingers it wasn't messy at all. My date had the crepe and it was very delightfull. The crepe was very delicate and the fillings all complimented each other, and was truely an experience for the mouth with different flavors and textures the way good...no...great food should be. Our main courses were just as good. I was very impressed that because it was my birthday that i did get a free desert which i didn't expect and i did get a birthday card with a hand written note that was signed by all the staff which i thought was a very nice touch and one that was very unexpected. For desert we had the trio of ice creams or sorbets that are made in house. The flavors were great, not too sweet. The texture of both the ice cream and sorbet was perfect. I had such a fabulous night and meal and i would recommend Bistro Vendome to anyone who is looking for a suburb meal.

At first the service was promising as we were greeted by a pair of hostesses who were sincerely sweet and friendly. Unfortunately they seated us at what is clearly the worst table in the house, right next to the kitchen where one diner literally would be force to have their head bumped and chair kicked by bustling kitchen and wait staff throughout the evening (it happened several times in the minute we remained at this table). To place guests at such a table without proper warning, apologies of the house and a token mea cupla such as a complementary dessert shows a startling lack of savoir faire and was slightly insulting. We were, thankfully, upon complaint, politely and quickly moved to a more appropriate table. Service for the evening was friendly and well informed but spotty. After arriving at our new table a full 10 minutes passed without any attention whatsoever. The food was a mixed bag of mediocrity. The terrine of fois gras was itself well done, buttery and not overly seasoned or soaked in too much armagnac as often is the case, but the caramelized onion marmalade served atop it was cloyingly sweet and ruined the dish. It was too messy to be eaten with one's fingers (as one often does in a bistro) and the brioche toast points the fois sat upon were too crisp and dry to cut with a knife. The beet salad left little to rave about. The blue cheese was poorly chosen and far too salty and the greens were under dressed. The cassoulet was mostly good, crisp confit and succulent rabbit sausage, but the white beans were lukewarm and mealy. The steak frites was also a disappointment. The frites are served with a champagne vinegar gastrique that was not mentioned in the menu. We hated it. They should warn people since, as the waitor confessed, 10 per cent of their customers hate it too. The bearnaise would embarrass a student chef in their first week of training but the steak was fine. Coffee was good, desserts okay, wine list impressive.

We had a wonderful meal. We enjoyed the Steak Frites with Roquefort and a port reduction. The steak was cooked perfectly and the pairing with the cheese and reduction was divine. The fires were delicious covered in herbs and a slightly sweet sauce served with a lemon aioli? The Bordeaux by the glass was a good value. We were very pleasantly surprised at the end of the meal with a complementary dessert (it was my boyfriend?s birthday) and a card signed by the staff! It was a wonderful ending to a romantic meal.

Pros: food, service, wine

Cons: tables are cramped

this restaurant features amazing food and wine, a great atmosphere and the most ridiculously rude manager/owner I have ever seen! He suffers from a napolean complex, and continually and publicly berates his wait staff! The first and last time I will ever go - we actually heard him swearing and yelling at some poor staff member in the kitchen. don't support such a terrible person !

I had not returned to Bistro Vendome for over 2 yrs. We had the most awful service there. (I guess you can say, I'm one of those people who don't complain but just won't go back to a restaurant when I have a bad experience)

Last night 5 of us dine there and I must say it was great. The food was wonderful, my duck was a bit under-cooked but the Appts were all very good and the Mussels....yum! Our back waiter had a bit of an attitude but the hostess, manager, waitress, & busser more than made up for him. We spent over 2 hrs dinning & laughing and it was great experience. I will be returning again.

I've eaten at Bistro Vendome more than 10 times in the past 18 months. The food is consistently good, with a menu that changes seasonally, regular nightly specials, and standard bearers like steak frites in three varieties and mussels. Even on a busy night, the front staff, especially Scott and Katie, have worked hard to seat me on time, even when showing up unexpectedly without a reservation. The bar, small though it is, is special and the bartender an unexpected and welcome source of information about good wine at a reasonable price. Eat at the bar if you're jammed for time and cannot wait for a table. When summertime comes, there's no better place than the patio. Javier, one of the longtime waiters, is a gem in his own right and will point you to the best of the menu if you know to ask.

Unfortunately the problems with leadership in the front of the house continue. The 2 women working the hostess stand were confused and not up to the job, and the little man in charge of the dining room is an embarrassment to himself, his staff, and restaurants everywhere. I won't go into details, as I would simply be repeating very similar situations to those already described in earlier posts.

Our first visit was a quiet romantic evening for two. Gary, our waiter, was fantastic. We leaned on him for recommendations and each one was perfect from the P.E.I. mussells, to the pomme fritts and his suggestion of wine! He took such good care of us that we decided to go back for Easter brunch with the family. We did have reservations but we wanted to wait for a table in Gary's section. After 30 minutes the manager and staff brought a table to us outside of the patio area and we enjoyed a fabulous brunch under the beautiful trees and sunshine and again Gary's service and the food was exceptional! I can't thank the staff and management of Bistro Vendome enough for taking such good care of us! I think it was great for our kids, however, they are older. We will make Bistro Vendome a regular dining experience.

We received the most amazing service at Bistro Vendome. Four of us showed up on Friday night during the last night of 5280's Restaurant Week with no reservation. Without any prompting, Scott (the owner), mentioned that they were pretty booked but immediately called a few other restaurants nearby to see if we could get in. Every place was booked. So then he walked us over to Lime (no affiliation), bought us a round of drinks & told us to come back to Bistro Vendome and he would have a table ready for us in an hour. We were stunned! Sure, he's the owner & wants to make his patrons happy. But they were already booked - he could have easily said "come back next time" but he went out of his way to accomodate us. And a delicious meal, fun atmosphere & friendly server to boot! Thanks Scott!

The Sunday brunch is very good. The French Toast was fantastic. Our table next to a door to the courtyard was not. Especially during the dead of winter with staff coming in and out.

The service here was wonderful. We had the mussels to start which are the best I've had. The duck was cooked perfectly and the steak frites were great. And the wine is reasonably priced. A good date place that won't break the bank.

Pros: Reasonably Priced, Unique, Delicious Food

From the moment we arrived, the two young ladies at the front of the house made every rude and insulting gesture , perhaps not even intentionally, they could possibly make. From losing our reservations and blaming us for that, to giving the table they just told us we could have to a party arriving after us without a reservation, it is a miracle we did not lose our appetite. After losing our table, we expressed exasperation, and were promptly told not to "get hostile". The manager came out to apologize, and almost made matters worse by defending his is "usually professional" help. The wait staff was embarassed, and thankfully tried to make up for the very unprofessional front of the house. The food was quite good, but not good enough to tempt us to go back.

I am shocked at some of the reviews on here for service. Although many of them were for 2004 - so I am assuming any problems listed have been resolved. I have been twice to Vendome for brunch and both experiences were above and beyond any expectations I could have had. The service was excellent - great recommendations. The food was to die for. What is on those french fries? C'est Magnifique!

We celebrated our anniversary and this was our first visit to Bistro Vendome. We thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary champagne, our French-speaking waiter, Xavier, and the excellent food and wine. Service was outstanding, starting with making the reservation and ending with a thank you from Xavier and the owner. The menu has something for everyone, and the atmosphere is reminiscent of our travels to Paris. We will return soon!

Really, it is! The food is fabulous, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is amazing! A great place for romantic nights, but best of all the breakfast/brunch on the weekends (which are cheaper too) If you go for brunch I suggest the Steak and Eggs with Potato Lyonaisse. And if you like Coffee theres is great!

The steak frites au poivre was marvelous, as well as the pommes frites coated with herbs (including lavendar) and honey! I wasn't sure if I would like slightly sweet fries, but dipped in the garlic ailoi it was served with, they were heavenly.
Staff was extremely attentive and the manager was wonderful at making we feel welcome.
Coming from San Francisco, this restaurant impressed me and I wish I lived in Denver so that I could eat here more often!

I love the atmosphere - very French, warm and romantic. Food is very close to that of Brasserie Rouge, which I love, but the wine list is weak and very expensive - no values to be had at all. Great date spot.

I like this place for their brunch. They have the best french press coffee and for that reason alone is worth going there. We have tried their omlete and steak and eggs and they both were very good. I tried their tuna nicoise salad and for $13 i felt they didn't give you enough tuna and the egg had an ugly grey line around the yolk. I was not happy about that. How hard is it to cook a perfect egg? We also had a lamb burger and that was OK. Nothing special about that. I think they have a good steak frites. So i would recommand their steak and their brunch.
