      .

We rolled into this campground late one June evening in 2008. It was too late and cold to pitch our tent. We were looking to rent a camping cabin. The office was closed for the evening. Fortunately, there was a phone number to call for assistance. The owner came down right away and reopened the office. We got a cabin--at a discount to boot plus lots of free product samples. When we are in the area, we will definitely stay at this KOA again.

Escape the heat in cool Gunnison, where the average July high temperature is 80 degrees. "Come and watch the grass grow" is the slogan at the Gunnison KOA. Mom, Dad, children and dogs will enjoy camping on the 100% grass-covered sites. Unique to the West, this KOA has an abundance of water to provide green grass for camping. Take off  your shoes and enjoy the blades between your toes. Blue Mesa Reservoir, the largest body of water in Colorado, is so close you can feel the fishing and water recreation from 8 miles away. Children and adults will enjoy the weekend petting zoo. Fish, bike, hike, raft and shop within minutes of this quiet campground. The campground has a stocked trout pond, and you can catch-and-keep for a fee. The wildflowers in nearby Crested Butte are spectacular! This is a unique camping experience. Max pull thru: 100 feet. Your hosts: Dave, Susie and Michael Taylor.
