I went to VCA Wingate as a recommendation of the large-breed dog rescue I got my Great Dane from since one of the vets is the Medical Director. I will say for the first 3 years I went, the service was 'okay' and the staff was 'fine' there was nothing that truly impressed me.

However, when my dog (my child, really) got sick, problems started. My regular vet was out of the office a lot and was not responding to calls or emails at all. I requested a second opinion (really a new first opinion since I could never get a response). That vet then referred me to a specialty vet for an oncology consult. It was the worse experience of my life and when I explained that to the VCA Wingate vet her response was, "I haven't had that experience with them. Follow up with your normal vet" (referring to her colleague at VCA Wingate). When I did hear from my regular vet, she referred me to VRCC for an oncology consult. The news was devastating; our dog had bilateral thyroid cancer. My vet and I both received an emailed copy of the results and the specialists findings-- And that is when all communication STOPPED! My vet never emailed me, never called me. This was a patient of hers for over 3 years and she didn't have the decency to say, "sorry your dog/child is dying. Let me help you make end of life care decisions." NOTHING!

So, when it came time to let our baby go, we chose an outside agency who came to our home. One of her guarantees is that she contacts your vet to let them know she euthanized the dog so you do not have to go through that trauma. Again, no phone call from my vet or email to apologize or to send condolences.

The next month, I received an "vaccination due" post card for my deceased dog. I called the office and through tears and sobs of reliving his death, I asked her to ensure he was marked as deceased in their computer so I wouldn't have to do this again.

The very next month, same thing. I called and again begged not to receive any correspondence in the mail or email and was told it was taken care of. Too bad that didn't happen.

The third month, I received a magazine addressed to my dead dog. I called and spoke to the clinic manager and this time I admit, I was rather perturbed and stated this was unacceptable and poor customer service. She assured me this would not happen again and that she was personally seeing to this issue.

Today, I open my email to this heading "Happy Birthday to Onyx!"..... Yep- That was a joy. Today would have been his 11th birthday. I am heartbroken and enraged that after four months of calling, begging, and pleading not to endure this trauma over and over that VCA Wingate cares so little about their patients (animals) and their families who love and treat them as family members.

SHAME ON YOU VCA WINGATE- I would never recommend you to anyone! I sincerely hope you never have to go through what I went through at your clinic!

I have been taking my golden/chow dog Lilly to this hospital for 8 years. Over the years we have seen every doctor in the office. While all the staff is highly competent, Dr. Wenngren is the doctor that deserves a 5 star rating. He is kind, caring and extremely knowledgeable. He has helped us with skin allergy issues, the surgical removal of a skin growth and most recently acl surgery which was preformed in the clinic by a specialist who was also fabulous.

I am writing this review because I know that it can be difficult to find a vet that you can trust. I have very high standards for doctors and I truly believe that Dr. Wenngren is one of the very best. In addition to being a skilled clinician, he is also very conscious of the monetary challenges that we are faced with. He spends lots of time with LIlly and has an amazing memory of her history. I have never felt rushed and have never had to wait longer than a few minutes to see him.

I have never used the grooming and boarding services so I cannot comment on that but I would send anyone I loved to Dr. Wenngren.

I brought my puppy to VCA. When I told the vet that I did not wish to have my puppy neutered in the future because I would like him to have puppies with my family's dog, she became quiet, and then more or less chided me about becoming a "back-yard breeder" and told me to "leave that to the professionals". She then told me how many pets need to be adopted. While I do understand that the pet population is overrun and many animals need homes (don't get me wrong, I would certainly encourage anyone to adopt) that is not the choice that I made. In addition, my family is not a group of "back-yard breeders". We are from the country and have years of experience with dog breeding. I just do not appreciate being judged and preached to.

I originally chose this vet when I adopted my kitten 5 years ago. A new vet joined the hospital right around the time--not a great experience. My kitten did have to visit regularly and I simply requested times when we could have one of the other two vets.

I recently adopted a puppy and took her in, forgetting to request one of the two vets we liked and saw the vet I'd had the bad experience with. The appt started late and in the 10 mins she allotted us, she chastised me twice--one for leaving the collar that puppy came with on her, and one for not bringing in a fecal sample. She condescendingly brought me gloves and commented that since I was apparently too squeamish to handle my puppy's feces, she would give me gloves. Are you kidding me? I did not bring a fecal sample because one was not requested by the office when they set up the appt. I can't believe any dr. or service provider would talk to a customer or patient like that. She administered whatever shots and services she deemed appropriate without consulting me and she also did not think it was important when I mentioned that they'd mislabeled my puppy's folders/papers with my cat's name. She dictated the week my puppy would need to be brought in for spaying without asking what my intentions were. While I fully intend to spay her I couldn't believe the presumption. Educating is okay, condescension and dictating my pet's future are not.

To top that off--upon bringing in the fecal sample I received the bill without the results. I was told they didn't have my phone number, but they took it just the week before when I scheduled the exam and they had my address to send the bill without the results. When I requested the results prior to paying the invoice, the results showed the patient as my cat. I then requested updated results and was told they would cross out the name and change it to my puppy's name by hand--probably because they could not get an outside lab to reissue correct results. Again--are you kidding me? That's the medical records and documentation a nationally branded pet hospital believes is appropriate? We advocate treating our pets with the same care we receive, and comparably charge for those services, but I do not know one human health care provider that believes altering lab results by hand is appropriate. $200 for one set of puppy shots is significantly above the average cost--the least they could do is provide professional services and records for that price. We've since changed vets and learned there are numerous high quality animal hospitals in Parker, Greenwood Village and Lone Tree that provide truly amazing service and state of the art facilities AND offer new puppy packages that include spaying at much more affordable costs.

I love Wingate! they remember my dog's name as soon as they hear my last name and when i go to drop her off, she doesn't even look back at me. Wingate takes excellent care of your pets, and it's obvious to me that they are gentle and truly do care about the animals they are boarding. My dog never comes home 'shell shocked' and we feel completely comfortable leaving her there for any length of time.

Wingate does a good job with the everyday issues, boarding and grooming but if you're dealing with something deeper-like cancer, this is not the best place to take your pet. I experienced a lack of patience and knowledge when trying to determine how to treat my pet's problem. As for the grooming and boarding services, you'll want to call ahead. They get pretty busy. With the exception of the above situation, the staff is friendly and helpful. I found their prices to be quite reasonable too.
