It would be easy to walk past Dozens and not realize it is a restaurant. But to do so would be to miss an opportunity for an excellent breakfast or lunch. They are located very close to Denver Police headquarters, Denver Health Medical Center, and other 24/365 organizations. Therefore, you might see other patrons enjoying a beer or glass of wine with their omelette after their shift. Even if that option does not appeal to you, Dozens is a place to go for generous amounts of delicious, fresh food in an inviting atmosphere--at least once you step through the door.

Dozens has someting for everyones taste buds. Freshness is the the word that comes to mind when I think of each choice menu item. Breakfast might be the the Capitol Hill Omlette or the Here's Your Aspen. My favorite lunch sandwich is the Golden Triangle. The prices are reasonable and you won't go away hungry. Check out their great menu!

This is a terrific place to enjoy breakfast & lunch in downtown Denver near the Capitol. The food is marvelous! You might want to get there early because it gets very crowded, but it is definitely worth the wait.

I've been coming to Dozen's for YEARS now. I'm always met by John's smiling face (and funny curly hair). I've NEVER had a bad meal. Never. I've had slow service on occasions, but I can overlook that when I see that my server is busting her butt waiting on other tables - I'm only bothered when I see servers talking or fooling around, which I've never seen them do here (as if they would have the time in this busy place!). THIS is the place I bring ALL my out of town guests.

There isn't a single thing on the menu I'd tell you to avoid - everything is fresh and delicious. I'm not a regular coffee drinker but something about their coffee will having me drinking cup after cup! Yum!

And as I am a 'Customer Service Junkie' I have to tell you how impressed I am with Dozen's in the wintertime - while there's a wait, you can cross the street to Pint's Pub (before hours) and hang out there for free coffee and access to their bar menu.... Dozen's will call the bar when your table is ready. Love!

If you haven't been to Dozen's yet - make it a point to, you'll be glad you did!

Pros: John, sausage patties, the coffee!, patio

Cons: some servers are slower than others - but always nice

I have been here Dozens of times and they have the yummiest egg dishes - try the Aspen with avocado and tomato and feta. The coffee is great and the service is fast and friendly. The west-facing deck in fun to sit out on on warm, summer mornings.
The red-headed hostess hasn't smiled in years and she was actually wating tables last time I was in, and the host is usually polite but curt and short. These frowns are worth it -- great breakfast!

I have enjoyed many sausage gravy and biscuit plates, but nothing has compared to what Dozens serves up. The coffee is so good, better than anything around. The casual atmosphere reminds me of my favorite restaurant back home. The service has always been top notch. And the key to enjoying all of this is knowing the best times to go!

When folks can just write whatever they want anonymously. What is the value?

Dozens has been in the Golden Triangle for over 22 years. Won more "Best of Denvers" and "Top of the Towns" than several other restaurants combined. Dozens is a Zagat rated restaurant. It was featured in Sunset magazine twice and the United Inflight magazine. Every Governor since Romer, every Mayor since Pena and every DA since Norm Early has dined there. The DNC host committee (yes that's right DEMOCRATS) Held a meeting there every Thursday in advance of the convention.

I apologize if someone was offended by an distracted employee. We don't have Spanish themed entrees (it is a California based egg concept from the early eighties with a French flair). True we still run a wait on the weekends (even in this economy) and that may be hard for some. We only lightly season our food. It is "breakfast" and we provide quite an assortment of condiments to liven it up if you like. If we are on a 30 min wait, it's not gonna be cool to dash some late arriving and unaccounted for friends to your two seat table, try to brow beat the host into submission and then make up some fictional story about the chain of events.

Regarding children. I have two of my own. My wife was a nanny for many years before we married. I like kids. Dozens is a business, in a business and very mature market. Businesses cater to their market. Children are welcome at Dozens and if it's slow they may even get a little extra attention. Fact is though, it's not really that kind of place. Nothing personal, just a fact. If you go to Dozens in Aurora (very family neighborhood) you'll find lot's of amenities for children.

I thank all the tens of thousands of folks (adults and children) who have dined at Dozens over the years. We rarely get a complaint. Many think it's the best breakfast in town.

This is not anonymous. You know who this is and I stand by it.

See you for Breakfast,

Johne

Pros: Fresh and fast. Top quality ingredients. Best scrambled eggs

Cons: I'm biased

We were seated and ignored by wait staff for 20 minutes. The waitress serving the adjacent table would not acknowledge our existence even though she was 2 feet away with her back to us. When we finally asked this same waitress if we could get some coffee she rudely replied that she wasn't our waitress and walked away. A little friendly aknowledgment is all we wanted and any decent restaurant knows this. Is it too much to ask that staff notice you, smile, and say I'll let your server know you are seated? We won't go back again.

Rude staff, says vegetarian friendly, but is the only place in colorado that sells coffee...but not soy milk.
Not very clean either, had to return my silverware twice!

Anybody that is not white, republican or Christian should not set within fifty feet of this place. There have been several times where guests and staff where very rude to my family because we are not white, republican or Christian. Bottom line don?t eat there!!!!!!!

I don't know why there used to be lines to get in this place when I first moved here. The food is horrifyingly bad and unhealthy. Also, what is up with the apple butter?? Overall, I can think of 10 other breakfast spots (including home!) I'd rather visit than to make the trek downtown for a menu that features ingredients from King Soopers. And for lunch? Almost inedible.

Their food is average, nothing stellar. Muffins are good, except I did get one muffin the last time I ate there that had a chunk of, what I suspect to be, a wooden spoon in it. Ew, but it happens, at least it wasn't a fingernail!

Your kids are only cute to you...I'm glad to have a place I can eat breakfast without the irritating sound of you baby talking to your child.

I only hope that someday I get to see this famous manager go off on idiotic, demanding customers. I'm getting the feeling I want to shake his hand.

Having just moved to Denver, a friend recommended Dozens as a wonderful breakfast place. It was - until the end of the meal. This same friend who told me to eat at Dozens and his wife joined my table just as my breakfast companion was leaving. While the four of us chatted, the waitress came over and confirmed that the new additions would want food. She didn't seem to be upset.
We were unaware this would be a problem. Suddently the manager appeared and let us know that even if one of us was on the way out, three people could not occupy a "two top" and that we were "taking liberties" in his restaurant without going through proper seating protocol. He was visibly upset, and none of us could really wrap our minds around why.
The confusion spiraled from there. After a series of questions from us about where we could sit, without getting answers, my friend suggested that perhaps this was too complicated and he should eat elsewhere. At this, the manager told him to leave saying the actual words: "get out of my restaurant NOW," so loudly that others in the area stopped talking to look. With sympathies from the diners around us, we got up to leave and - I kid you not - as I paid in full for my breakfast with 20 percent tip at the register, the manager continued to berate us, talking about how he's sick of customers who "come in to my restaurant and want to be in control."
I'm just absolutely baffled. I've never been kicked out of a restaurant. I still don't even understand what got him so upset in the first place. After looking here at a few reviews regarding the difficult seating situation, it makes sense that there is tension. But really, with so many wonderful places to eat there is no reason for me to ever return to a place with such a horribly rude manager. I don't need a side of fighting to go with my food.

He is always friendly and always fun to talk to. They messed up my order once and gave me free food. They do everythign to make sure you will come back to eat with them.

There are a lot of complaints about Dozens on this site and I don't understanding why. Tasteless my ___! This is one of my husband's favorite breakfast places, and in fact we're just about to go there now! (I found this site looking for their hours.)

The atmosphere is also fantastic. I love the fact that it's in an old house. Yes the wait can be long but that's because there's more demand than they can accommodate. But it's well worth the wait!

I've eaten at Dozens quite a few times over the years. The food is generally pretty tasty, and the prices are on the higher side of moderate. However, the wait to be seated can be unbelievable, which really stinks when you're starving! Also, after I had kids I made another discovery about this place: apparently, the owner hates breeders. When we committed the unconscionable sin of asking for a high chair, he actually out and out told us in a very snotty way that they made an effort NOT to be family friendly; hence, no booster seats or high chairs. The food is pretty good, but not good enough to deal with that attitude, so we have gone elsewhere for the past 5 years or so.
The Eggshell, Mona's, Racine's, and Stella's are all places you can go with your kids and not be reviled for procreation. I know other parents who have personally encountered the same thing here, and boycott for that reason.

The service was good, otherwise: no real maple syrup, no jalapeno peppers (in Denver!), a slab of cold potatoes, and omelettes with neither taste nor flair. Original Pancake House, here I come!!!

but I have had better eggs at Denny's. The cheese was so thick, greasy and coagulated that I couldn't even eat it. The potatoes were tasteless as was the apple butter. To top it off we had a very rude and forgetful waitress who rolled her eyes at many of our requests, and forgot drinks even after they were asked for 2-3 times. I would skip this place all together, not worth the 30-45 minute wait.
