Lake Steam baths holds no pretensions, it is what it is and is in a little time warp Could use some updating though and really be a nice place (new tile, new carpet etc) and with some of price increases over the last couple years the Mgmt should invest in the faciltiy.. That being said, there is no other place like it around Denver or even the Mtn states area that I know of & I am glad we have a nice steam bath to go to like the Lakes.
The gay sub culture thing is ridiculous. Sure Straights, Gays, Bi's or whatever may go there, but in the 12 yrs I have been going, I have not been offended by anyone, and find most people are there to enjoy the steam or a nice massage at a reasonable price. The Mgmt does discourage inapproriate acts and would advise one to leave if they cannot behave, so whats the beef with people calling this a creepy place? They must be totally inadept and insecure with life and themselves.
Thanks for being there Lakes, and please invest in some tasteful updating!!!

I have been going to Lake Steam Baths for 5+ years and I have not once seen any inappropriate behavior during any of my visits. Obviously I can't say that it NEVER happens, but I suspect the incidents are few and far between. I go there precisely because it ISN'T cruisy like a gay bathhouse would be. I think some straight men can be so insecure about their own sexual orientations that they "imagine" they are being cruised just because someone makes eye contact in passing. But I digress... the hot tub is too hot for my taste, but the sauna, steam room, cafe and massage services are all wonderful. I'm married to a certified massage therapist (who also gets massages there) and the massages are high quality and you can't beat the price (currently $30/hour). The price of admission (currently $15) is also very reasonable. I highly recommend Lake Steam.

Dear Beware, Thank you for taking the time to write your side of the situation you experienced. As you may know, in any business the management cannot always be present for any/all situations. So, we must follw our family-business policies a.s.a.p, for the benefit of all guests.
Your 10-year association is truly a tribute to us and you because it signifies even stronger the continuation of our 80-year family value systems to all our patrons. Yes, this tribute includes you, one of our valued customers, and we truly understand your feelings. We ask that you take the time to understand ours also. We honor our services and the abiity to maintain high-standards to all our customers. The offer of your return still stands.
Thank you for your considerations,

I ended my ten year association with Lake Steam Baths after being wrongly accused of behavior I did not commit. The manager took someone's outrageous story about my "touching" myself inappropriately. It was probably the most offensive thing that has happened in my life thus far.

They did, however, invite me back. Go figure. Someone there had way too much steam.

Despite the old-world feel to Lake Steam, there's a reason why a large sign reading "We Consider Ourself a Family Spa. Please report any misconduct." is prominently posted in the common area. Why? Because of the predominately gay subculture that comes to Lake Steam on men's days. It makes it quite uncomfortable for us who go for legitimate reasons and not for hook-ups to enjoy it more. But what can be done, really? You can politely ask the guys in the steam room across from you to, um, separate while you're in there. You can clear your throat and point to the posted rule about no body contact. Or you can just ignore it and hope the city health inspector makes a surprise visit. This happens at Lake Steam. Too bad, because it's a decent idea.

It is 12/07 and the admission price is now $14.00.
Definitely needs a good scrub outside and especially
inside all around.Of course the price will go up to keep it cleaner.
A real dated and unkempt place. Come on and do it right.
Well, good luck, with that task.

I suggest the next time that you are in Las Vegas check out the hotel spa's there for only $20 - $25, then you'll know that you experenced a real clean health spa !

The one thing you need to know about this place is that clothing is not allowed in the spa or massage rooms! I booked a massage for a few friends without realizing this one important fact. The massage was less than $30 for an hour, although it wasn't the greatest massage ever. You can also go to the sauna or steam room for $8 without getting a massage.

Lucky for Denver fo have this place, yes it needs some updating, yes a variety of people go to this place (dont like that, stay home in your own bathtub), no this is not a gay bathhouse, all walks of life come here, enjoy, converse, & enjoy the steam. Mgmt is attentitive to its guests.

"We Consider Lake Steam to be a Family Spa. Please report any misconduct." So says a sign hanging prominently in the common area at Lake Steam. And, on men's days, you can see why. Despite its old-world appearance, this spa seems to be a market for gay dudes looking to hook up. It makes it quite uncomfortable for legitimate users to enjoy the services while disturbing behavior occurs a few feet away. The management needs to enforce its rules--especially the one about "no body contact"--and make it a straight-friendly spa. I recommend Sunday mornings early (6:00), when old-school heat therapy takes place before the annoying presence of the gay culture enters. Here's hoping Lake Steam gets its act together the rest of the time.

Pros: Price, spaciousness, sauna

Cons: gay subculture (men's days), inconsistent heat

This spa is unlike any I've ever been to and has it's own special charm. One must go on either the all men or all women days of the week - I'm a Monday & Thursday gal. I love the price ($9.50) that allows you to stay as long as you want. The steam room with eucalyptus oil is a huge help in the cold and dry Denver winters. The hot tub is big, roomy and hot. I usually have one of the gals that do the body scrubs do their thing (for additional $ - they are independent contractors). You get your locker, your sheet, your tiny handtowel, and away you go. Massage appointments are available. I've not tried the Massage therapy services, the body scrubs are like a quick all over 15 minute massage that feels great and exfoliates at the same time.

Pros: affordable price, central location

Cons: needs rennovation, new carpet would help
