Food was great and reasonable. Lunch is a particularly good value at under $7 for the chicken basil and rice. Service was very good. Restaurant is small and parking is limited.

What's the deal with Thai food in Denver? I've tried 4 different places and they were all lackluster in their pad thai - too saucy, yellowish-orange colored gook is different than any other city I've eaten thai at. I've found an early warning sign - if the menu has a chinese section it's going to suck.

I'm a fan of Thai Basil but every now and again go over to Tommy's instead. The ambience is totally different and I can get glass noodles, which I love. So, the space is very urban, which is great, except that the din of your fellow diners makes it very hard to hear over your own table. Whoever built it wasn't thinking of the acoustics. The food is quickly served, fresh and very good. I like the variety and think the prices are generally reasonable. LOVE the green tea ice cream but wish they would sometimes have some specials on the Singha. If you are in the neighborhood, it's worth checking out.

Pros: Affordable, good Thai

Cons: A bit loud in the dining room

I've always been a fan of Tommy's. But today not only was I charged for a dish i found a HAIR in, but their lunch portions have gone from decent to pathetic. Got the vegetables in garlic sauce today. When the hairLESS dish was delivered, I was less than stoked on the pound of rice served with the few veggies making up my plate. Been loyal. Will never go back. Goodbye Tommy's Thai.

A legendary (and one of the very first) Thai restaurants in Denver. The introduced us to the cuisine and many followed in their ways! (for better and worse!)

Nice balance of price and product.

Great lunch spot!

great place for Thai food, i really like it. Interestingly, the Thai chilli can get really hot. I love this hotness in food normally, but this is just crazy!

My partner and I order regularly from Tommy's Thai. I will say, having lived here since 1997, the food has gone up and it's gone down. All agree to that. Sadly, I've seen the prices rise steadily above quality. The economy is not the best, and it's impacting small businesses like Tommy's. For example, we often order the drunken noodles with beef, medium spicy. Lots of filler veggies have been added to this once-distinct dish. Here, I am speaking as a regular delivery customer...

Dining in the restaurant, one gets a slightly beter experience. Yes, the service seems at times a bit distracted (with what, I know not). The kitchen often seems so busy and cantankerous, one wishes not to offfend the chef. That aside, eating there is what it is: a small restaurant with lower (than average) prices.

What can you expect at a $ rating level? We have to reconcile expectations with what we put up to meet those expectations.

Have you ever eaten at Pok Pok in Portland, OR? What a different Thai experience, all around. But, remember, we're in Denver, Coloado, the land of beef, the cowboy, and do-as-you-wish ways of being.

I've been eating at Tommy's now for 15 years and can say that they are as good now as they were back in the 90's. Their customer service is polite and quick not an easy task when you see how crowded they can get. The blinking light is a great way of letting customers know that they are taking a phone order (a huge part of their business). I used to live a mile away in the 90's and would have to wait up to 1.5 hours for a delivery when they were busy. Now I live in the burbs but still make the trek to Tommy's a few times a month for my authentic Thai fix (this is NOT fusion food). The food is consistently tasty and it still amazes me how they can keep their prices so low. Some of my favorite dishes (I've tried them all) are: stuffed chicken wings, tod mun pla (amazing!), tom ka gai, pad lad na and pad se yew. Their pad thai is always awesome but I suggest branching out and trying something else!

Recently ate at Tommy's with a European buddy and we found the food and service to be top shelf. I ate the royal chicken and he ate a curry dish. The egg rolls were very large, unlike the "tacquito shaped style" at some restaurants. Because the cooks come from Thailand this adds to authenticy of the food. We read Citysearch comments for the first time and were preplexed by the 1 and 2 stars. Apparently there is a lot of confusion with Asian fusion and authentic cuisine. We both agreed that the parking lot is tiny but try to go to a restaurant in LO-DO. All in all a great restaurant. Many of my fellow Viet Nam buddies go there for sentimental reasons. Reliving the R&R days in Bangkok.

The place looks nice inside, and the decor is modern. The food however leaves a lot to be desired. While the eggrolls are really big, they are way over-fried. The satay chicken had so much sauce on it that it was hard to see the meat underneath, and....sauce was not great. The tin cups try to convey "hip" but they really convey "unsanitary" and "old". Parking lot is tiny. Service was friendly. They need to work on getting better food out to the table.

In the past Tommy's Thai was always a consistent, cheap, and chic place to take people who are new to Thai. The last two times I went were a crushing disappointment. My most recent: the pad thai had an awful eggy aftertaste; the green curry was sub-par, the Tommy's tidbits were pitiful, and the royal chicken alone was good, but oily. Additionally, Tommy's soup of the day was always a delicious learning experience, but this time sweet and sour egg drop soup was like something from Iowa. I will be writing Tommy's off my list : (

The food at tommy's is so hit-or-miss, you never know what you to expect! Is it going to be a good day or bad day? And what is it with the lady that answers the phone (good thing she is the owners daughter). Heaven forbid you talk while her little red light on her ear piece is on. I can't tell you how many times I have been sushed. Common Denver... best of denver? why spend your money at such a rude place of business! Don't we have more pride??? Customer service should be #1.

The atmosphere was loud and uninviting We dined on a Wednesday night and my watch indicated it was 8:45pm our server said it was 9:00pm and we had to order immediately because the kitchen was closing. We hurried and ordered egg drop soup, hot & sour soup, veggie potstickers, chicken satay and drunken noodles. Everything came at once (along with or bill) and the hot & sour soup was the worst I had ever tasted. It was basically the egg drop soup with a strong dose of chili sauce added. I consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur of Thai/Chinese cuisine and this didn't come close. The chicken satay was what was ever left over from the days scraps and the drunken noodles lacked luster. While we were dining the staff made it very uncomfortable for us to consume our meal by mopping the floors, spraying tables with disinfectant, stacking chairs on tables, and turning the lights on full force to speed along our consumption. While we finishing our meal the entire staff stood at the counter hovering like vultures for us to leave, unfortunately I needed to use the restroom when I returned everything was cleared from our table.
My recommendation- go out and explore, there is some really tasty Thai out there just not at Tommy's Thai.

Best priced Thai in Denver!! For my money, it doesn't get any better Than Tommy's Pad Phet, a couple order of crab meat cheese wontons, hot and sour soup, and some thai iced tea. With every dish under 10bucks - why go anywhere else? Only downside - this place gets crowded - and parking can be a chore!

Several people recommended this restaurant to me. I have eaten at Thai restaurants all over Denver, and Tommy's Thai was the worst. The flavors were bland and the Tom Yom Soup was almost flavorless. There are too many great Thai restaurants in this town to waste your time and money at Tommy's Thai.

My favorite Thai restaurant in Denver! Great deals on bottles of wine. My favorite appetizer -fried tofu. My favorite entree- Chicken Satas with peanut sauce. It's a small restaurant, so you may have to wait 30 minutes during peak hours, but it's worth it!

A friend first took me to Tommy's about a year ago. I've eaten there several times since then and have always enjoyed it. I always order the Pad Thai Woon Sen. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The egg drop soup is kind of weak, but the Thom Goong (not sure if I got the name right) soup is AMAZING! The jasmine tea is also weak, but the Thai iced tea is very tasty. Service can be somewhat slow, I've sat with a burning mouth from the spicy noodles for quite some time before getting a refill of my water.

Overall, I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because of the service and the fact that some of the items on the menu are weak, but the majority of the selection is worth trying. *****EDIT 10/6/08**** I returned to Tommy's the other weekend. I was craving Pad Thai Woon Sen and it had been a while since I ate there. It was disappointing. I found an egg shell in the noodles and there were big globs of clear goo (corn starch?) in the egg drop soup. On the plus side, I got plenty of refils on my water and the soup must have been complimentary with the meal because I didn't order it and I saw them bringing it out to everyone. I also only got ONE piece of shrimp in my noodles. It was supposed to be a combo of chicken & shrimp. The noodles were still good, but it was as if the cooks stopped caring. Disappointing...

Place was nice looking. Parking is HORRIBLE. Pre-called about getting there at 9:45 and being seated and they said it was fine. Got there around 9:50PM and the person at the front desk was busy chatting on the phone. Did not even greet us. Asked to be seated and they refused and said only take out. Was planning on eating there so we got the take out. Ordered Royal Chicken, Pad Thai, and sticky rice with mango. Girl at the front desk didnt even say thank you, good night , nothing... kinda crappy service don't you think?
Royal Chicken tasted good but a bit salty. Pad Thai was pretty good. Mango and sticky rice was fine. Portions are not that large. Overall food was pretty good but service kinda lacked the "nice" that everyone is talking about. Maybe they were just tired? I don't know but have worked in the restaurant/server industry... you are never suppose to treat your guests that way.

I have been a Tommy's patron for 11 plus years and have never had a complaint. If I am really looking for a treat the Thai Ice Coffee is excellent. This is one of those places where you can go while dating and never break the bank. Excellent Pad Thai and Panang at the cost of a Burrito (at some places that are truly a chain.

To Go service is always prompt and as ordered.

It has been very amusing reading some of the reviews about Tommy's. One reader complained about the cheap cuts of meat used in the Massaman and then complained about the soup for 6.50 only coming with "4 teeny shrimp." They asked what a native Thai thinks of this place. Well I am not Thai but my wife is and we feel the need to educate some of you about Thai food. Thai's prefer dark meat chicken in their curries as they are more moist and savory cuts of meat. You might call it a "cheap" cut but it is authentic. As far as the shrimp goes....this is a quick and cheap place to eat. If want more shrimp then just ask them to give you extra (it costs a buck or so). What do you expect when you are paying 6.50 for a dish? Is their anywhere else you can get a made to order soup with shrimp for so cheap? Some reviews complained of the oily food. Again the food there is AUTHENTIC. If you would prefer your dish be made to suit western tastes (with less oil) then just ask for 'less oil.' One reader asked why they don't serve thick and chewy wide noodles. There are a number of dishes that come with fresh wide rice noodles....just order one of those. Another complained that it has chain ritten (sic.) all over it. Tommy's is about as far from chain food as you can get.

I guess I am not surprised by some of the negative reviews as this is a town where Taco Bell wins the "Best of" award for tacos. I just feel that I needed to defend Tommy's as I have been a faithful customer since 1994. The food is authentic Thai (I have been to Thailand three times), it is a family run business that gives back to the community and it is the best Thai food in Denver.

Sorry, but I am sooo disappointed in Tommy's. I live nearby and have tried it several times, and each time they do something wrong. Ordering to go, the phone service is usually surly. Sometimes, it is the soup (for 2?? LOL)--which costs 6.50,has 4 teeny shrimp and is 1/2 pint!!!! that disappoints. Sometimes, it is the cheap cuts of chicken they use in the massaman...or the fact that they use old, tough, woody carrots.... This restaurant in no way deserves Best OF anything. I would like to know what a native Thai thinks of this place. Actually, maybe not--then I would know how truly bad it is!

The atmosphere is about the best thing about this place. The food was bland, service spotty. We had to wait forever just to get waters and I had to add soy sauce to my egg drop soup so it would taste like something. I tried a few of my friends' dishes and they were a little better than mine, but still...not all that I'd heard it hyped up to be.

The service was fine here-and so was the atmosphere, but that doesnt make up for the food. It was terribly oily, and did not taste like Thai food. Are there any good thai restaurants in Denver? And why dont any Thai restaurants in Denver serve REALLY THICK and chewy wide noodles???

Cool atmosphere. Easy to overlook the shortcomings. This is a good restaurant, but nothing truly shines. It is better than Swing Thai, but not truly great (and soooo could be)! Kudos for it being locally owned--I just wish it weren't the same ol' psuedo-ethnic bland stuff like Chipotle. This has "chain "ritten all over it.

I arrived at the restaurant 5 minutes to closing and they served me without hesitation. I ordered the Egg Roll which was a twist on the original and nothing like a Spring Roll.

I also ordered the Pad Thai, assuming that this is their primo dish. Both the appetizer and the meal came out within minutes. Definately the servings are plenty!

The ambience is urban, and clean. I do recommend this place if you are visiting Denver and have a hankerin' for asian. My bill came to under $10 bucks pre-tip.

Pros: Quick to serve!

Cons: Place is a bit loud. Parking is difficult.

I was there for my first time this past Saturday night for date night. The Drunken Noodles are amazing and a bottle of wine was only $14. It still has that new, trendy feeling of a high class restaurant.

to keep it short parking is the only drawback. Watch out when parking on the local streets. I got a ticket.

Inexpensive, great thai food! You can have it delivered or take out, but I recommend eating in b/c you get a great bowl of soup while waiting for your food.

The food is not mind-blowing but it is consistent and filling for the price. This is a great place if you want something fast, casual and clean. Much better than many of the other asian options around Colfax.

Low quality ingredients. Don't be fooled by the high-ish rating. This place--although good and cheap--is not worth the money or time.

Don't take a date who has working taste buds here.

This would be my last meal request (if I ever needed one). The food is superb, and the atmosphere inviting. The service is great with a very friendly staff, always willing to chat with you if that's what you'd like. The only draw-back is that the place is a little small, so you often have to wait to get seated. But, if you avoid peak times, this isn't a problem. I've been there numerous times now, and haven't yet had anything I didn't like. They can also bring the spices to your table and you can add your own specific amount of spice - which I found a little irregular, but a great idea. I definitely wish there were more than the one location of this great restaurant.

This was another disappointment in the quest for good Thai food in Denver. I still have not found anyplace that comes close to the plethora of excellent, cheap and authentic Thai restaurants in my hometown of Washington DC. Tommy's food isn't bad, it's just uninspired, bland and inauthentic. The service is perfectly acceptable, the decor is urban industro-chic, and it's quite inexpensive. It just ain't all that.

I have been eating at Tommy's Thai since 2000 and I have to say it's the best, and most affordable Thai in Denver. I would recommend trying either a Singha beer or a Thai Ice tea with your meal (the extra price for the Thai Ice tea is worth it). The service is friendly, and I've never spent more than $40 for two people (that was going all out for entrees, appetizers, soups, desert and beers).
The portions are also great.

This restaurant was fabulous. I used to waitress for a Korean women and after college, I really missed her home-made recipes and spicy cuisine. Luckily for me, I was turned onto Tommy's by my sister. Now, when I'm craving the spicy thai/oriental meal, I can head to
Tommy's and be served great food at a very reasonable price. You gotta go.

I read alot of great things about Tommy's before going
there. When I finally went, I was a bit perplexed, as the food wasn't all that great. The prices however were low.

Since then, I've been to Tommy's a couple of more times and the food was better--good, not wonderful.

The new remodel is was a good thing, expanding capacity and giving it a modern decor.

There's better Thai out there, but Tommy's is a value.

Food is mediocre, but service left something to be desired. I must admit the prices are pretty resonable.

Congratulations to Tommy's on their remodel! Though there is much more seating now, everything else has pretty much remained the same, including the prices. In the six years that I have been eating at Tommy's, it has never disappointed me. The food is consistently good, and cheap. Furthermore, any guests I have ever brought here have also enjoyed the food. (Including a friend from San Francisco who is very particular about asian food.) Way to go Tommy, you deserve only the best!

Tommy's is easily the best Thai in Denver. Best food, and by far the best prices. The only drawback used to be limited seating with long waits, but the new remodel looks great. Four can eat dinner here for less than 30 dollars. If they had a liquour licensce all would be perfect in the world.

Too bad it's been closed for the summer, but Tommy's was the best deal for the dollar- authentic Thai food at amazing prices. Hopefully they won't raise it after being under construction all summer. The best way to get Tommy's before was take-out because the eat in area was like a closet. But worth every bit of it!

Tommy's Thai has a pleasant, low-key atmosphere. It's a very casual place, and correspondingly cheap, but everything is clean and pleasant there. I enjoyed the food, which met the basic Thai requirements. I have had better Thai food, but this was great for the price. If you like Thai and aren't a real snob about it, try Tommy's - you'll probably be pleasantly surprised. Also, order spicy!
