Over the years i have tried this place. The oyster selection is good, but the prices are way high. The best part of it all is the sauces that have been offered. During happy hour, however, when prices should be low, if you order a sauce, it costs twice what the oysters themselves cost. Lesson: they always figure a way to gouge you. also, the physical outlay of the place is severely cramped. There is no place that is comfortable in this restaurant. People are always bumping into you, both the customers and the staff. You cannot sit there and enjoy your time. Overall, the discomfort and unduely high expense provide more than adequate reasoning to make far better selections of eatery. I'd start with another venue before venturing into that place.

Pros: Has oysters

Cons: Overpriced and cramped

Such a fun place! One of the few Denver restaurants where the wait staff are not ski-bum types -- these folks know the menu and wine list and are right on on their selections. The menu varies seasonally and offers some unique creations. Exposed brick and big fish tank make the place a real eye-catcher. If you're not in the mood for fish you can always go to the standby Best Beef Burger ... it is incredible!

This place is very nice. The oysters are very good. I had the scallops and was fantastic. One member in our group orderd surf and turf. His steak was over cooked but he never complained. They bought the whole table dessert without us even asking! Excellent customer service finished off a great experience.

Pros: awesome oysters and scallops

oysters were awesome;fresh excellent selection and fairly priced. main entree was a little too spicy but palatable and tasty. I liked their house wine double chardonnay and the desert was delicious.

in the end the staff makes this place; they were friendly, offered good meal suggestions. our waiter jeff was timely in service, made excellent meal suggestions and everyone was cool. thanks

I don't see what everyone thinks is so good about this place! The meal I had was only so so for a 25 dollar dish, and it seems like everything on the menu has something gross added to it to just ruin an otherwise good plate. I sort of liked the crab cakes, but they came with a sauce that was quite similar to thousand island dressing and the salmon pasta would have been good, if it tasted like salmon and not sea water. Sorry Jax, just not digging it.

Pros: Their alcoholic bevs were nice

Cons: For a seafood resturaunt, their seafood is below par

.

Popular Lodo restaurant that can be very crowded on the week-ends. The oysters are great and so are the crab cakes with horseradish sauce. The menu has non-seafood choices for those that don't eat sea critters.

The place is definitely hip and cool. The food was good but the ambiance is what definitely makes this place go. My boyfriend thought his seafood platter was tasty. He wished there was more on the plate but he needs to lose weight anyways. I had a nice crab salad (yum).

Pros: Crab Salad

I ate there last night and the food was very average. It was all cooked fine, but for what amounted to a $130 dinner for 2, we could do so much better. The fish, and we ordered one appetizer and 2 entrees, were all fine, very average though and the accompanying sauces did not mesh well with the fish. I doubt I would return.

Jax is AWESOME. The best sushi and seafood around. They have an amazing raw bar. The environment is trendy and friendly. The prices are reasonable for the quality of dishes.

My wife and I were visiting from San Francisco and a little hesitant about seafood in Denver. Surprise! Everything was fresh and very lightly sauced, salted and spiced. Good portions. This restaurant would do great in the Bay Area. We were hungry so even though it was happy hour we went straight to the dining room. Service was excellent. When we were done, it was still happy hour, so we retired to the bar, had a few drinks and oysters for dessert and went back to our hotel very happy.

I ate here for the first time on a Tuesday night; and it was still a full house all night. Its a great little restuarant that was still able to handle our party of 6 in less than a 1/2 hour of time at the bar. The service was great, and the food was awesome. The west coast oysters were some of the best ive ever had, and the calamari was moist and delicious. The Ahi Tuna was my main course and it met my expectations, and had I made room, desert sounded wonderful as well. Definitely check this place out.

A great atmosphere for dates or groups. The waistaff is always helpful and accomodating. The blackened catfish is a must-have. The food is always prepared well. It's enough to leave you full, but not stuffed.

This small, noisey seafood bar is such a kick. The cold shellfish is marvelous. The $8.95 half pound seasoned shrimp are fresh and firm and a real bargain. The King Crab legs are fresh, not frozen, hot or cold they are great. The hot menue changes with the seasons...always something new to look forward to. The staff is outstanding. Same folks time after time. Good place and happy people, esp. Tim and Jackie! Go and enjoy.

You must experience Jax if you like fresh fish, great cocktails and oysters. Everything is fresh and the flavor combinations are unmatched. I highly recommend the Calamari appetizer and any oyster selection. Their cocktails ALWAYS hit the mark. Take any martini and you will be satisfied. If martinis are not your "cup of tea", try the mojito or jax cream soda. As for entree, I always take the fish special. It's always something new made with the freshest flavors for the season. The price is above par, but you do get what you pay for!

Normally, I don't mind paying 20-30 dollars for a plate of food that still leaves me hungry. But, there needs to be some substance to the inspiration of the dish that makes me ignore the quantity of food sitting on the plate, or the wait service needs to be superior. Jax gets huge points for the freshness, but their dishes miss the mark in a completely uninspired dining experience. From the culinary dimensions of the menu, to the atmosphere and waitstaff, this restaurant is a loud, obnoxious bore.

If you want to pretend that you are in a trendy New York oyster bar and don't mind paying top dollar for average food with poor service, this is the place for you!

Went to Jax on for after-work drinks on payday (thank goodness!) There were oysters for $0.75 a piece, but that's where the deals stopped! Three of us spent over $90 in just two hours! But the scene was great and the bartender was friendly (he made an EXCELLENT dirty martini!)

Easily the best seafood house in the city!
A great variety of super fresh selections at the raw bar, ample to oversized portions, great service from a super friendly staff!
A sure hit every time, even with a wait when busy. You always feel welcome and never an imposition.
Save a bit of room for some stellar desserts as well!

Jax is good, solid and fun. But it is so loud, and often not very friendly. We tried to dine there last week, but the oysters seemed over priced, and the bartender was too busy to give us the time of day. Their fish is fresh, and if you can get someone's attention it is worth it, if a little pricey.

Your choices for fresh seafood in Denver are limited, but Jax has plenty. Granted, this is not a place to go expecting an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet. Jax serves well prepared, well presented, fresh seafood in reasonable portions. The prices can sometimes be a little steep, but the freshness and quality of the seafood justifies the tab. Great drinks too.

Unfortunately we ate at Jax before going to the Pepsi Center on New Years Eve. We were told when we made the reservation that only a special New Years Eve menu was available. So we ordered from the selections offered for 5 courses. At the end of 5 courses, we were still hungry. What little bit we had was good but neither of us had ever seen servings this small--not even appetizer size. For two of us with 2 drinks each, our bill was over $150 not including tip. We got a hot dog at the Pepsi Center as we were both still hungry.

Have frequented Jax Fish House and have always had a great meal, at the bar or seated in the dining area. Platter was more than enough. Oyster selection always great.

My experience at Jax's is limited to the bar, but what a bar. Right as you come in the door at Jax's, the first thing you see is a big glass case on the bar filled with fresh oysters. As you're sitting at the bar, order a plate of fresh shucked oysters with your beer or wine - it's a treat not to miss. Plates vary from just a plain half dozen to a large variety of oysters. If you're an oyster connisseur, Jax is your place.

Last Friday we kept thinking our waiter was lost at sea. Wine w/dinner--Never showed up. everything was taking 4ever, Said he'ld get us change for the meter--Never showed up. We finally got it ourselves from the bar. When my Halibut showed finally showed up it was 3"x3". The time before we ordered the $100 seafood platter. It came with about $8 worth of cold sea food. Said it was good that way. The manager felt bad and kept bringing us more and more snow crab until people began to stare it was embarassing and we left. Save your $ and go to red lobster. Martini's were good.

I don't generally order salmon at a restaurant (for whatever reason), but I thought I'd try a bite of my friend's who ordered it. Even though my meal was excellent (...the ahi tuna), I had serious food envy. Next time I'm definitely getting the salmon!!

It's always a big, noisy party at Jax. There are good-looking crowds spilling out the door---waiting for a table or sitting out on a small sidewalk patio so friends spot friends and come over for a drink. Everyone orders martinis made with…
