I went to this bar last weekend for the UFC fight. The cocktail waitress ignored us for the first twenty minutes we were there. When she finally asked me and my girlfriend what we would like, she was rude and acted as if we were bothering

This place has it all, decent food, great service, rooftop patio! Any game you can imagine is viewable at the Column. Not my style on weekends, but the talent is fantastic. A great destination for their lunches or for Rockies home games. Fun and friendly staff. I've never had a bad time at the Sports Column.

I have always liked Sports Column because of the prices and service. The bar tenders are nice and the usually sport fan crowd are my kind of people. Before my latest experience I would have given this bar a solid 4 star rating, but sadly, I can not longer ignore a few basic problems.

First off, I would say I fall into the normal category of public bathroom users. Above all, I value my privacy. Of course I also want a bathroom that has been cleaned and stocked with soap and paper towel, but what I really want is to go about my business (get in, get out).

The problem with Sports Column is they have a bathroom attendant. This is fine, but IMHO totally unnecessary. This is not a 4 star hotel. This is a sports bar. Yes this ensures that the bathroom is clean and well stocked, (he's got mints and cologne in addition to soap and paper towel) but because the man has a tip jar I see patrons who would otherwise wash their hands bolt for the door to skip out on tipping. Or perhaps more awkward, using his services and not tipping. I'm not a germaphobe, but I would rather use a bathroom where people are washing their hands then one that spotless, and no one is washing their hands. It's an impossible situation, the attendant holds the soap and paper towel in-hand so you have to reach out to him in order to wash your hands. There are times when I have tipped and times when I simply had no cash or was not in the tipping mood. But I have always washed my hands. I've been friendly, but I have always felt weird about the situation. I shutter to think of using the stalls for a prolonged stay knowing the guy is in standing there, within earshot of everything.

OK. not too big of deal, right? But, this is just part of the problem. The last time I was there I resolved to avoid the situation completely. My smug self convinced me that I would simply not make a trip to the bathroom. As the night went on I found that this strategy simply wasn't panning out. If you have to go, you have to go.

It was shortly after last call when I really needed to go. As I walked over to the bathroom, I saw a man coming out and a another going in. The door was open enough during this time to where I could see with relative certainty that the attendant was not working that evening! I minor bonus, but all that really mattered was that I was going to be able to use the bathroom. Or was I?

I arrive at the door tailing another guy who looks like he has to use the bathroom as much as I do, when a "security" guard from the back comes running up and side steps in front of us to inform us that the bathroom is closed.

Two friends and I went to the Sports Column to watch the baseball game (we had tickets for the following day). We are all female and had several drinks without feeling a thing. We then did shots, I had 5... more than I've ever had before and bearly felt tipsy. BAD!!!

Pros: Good crowd, good service, nice place to watch sports

Cons: Mixed drinks were definately watered down... stick with beer

This is the best sports bar in town. They cater to all teams and make everyone feel welcome. They have been around forever and have won numerous awards. The one thing they do well is keep out the jerks and rowdies to make your stay more enjoyable. Sure the service is not 100% ALL the time but I have never been anywhere where it is. And I would never wait 2 hours if I had to get to a game, I would have left or asked for a manager in 15 minutes.

We're from LA and we flew out to watch a Dodger vs. Rockie game at 110pm. We went to the game and then decided to find a sports bar to watch the Lakers play the Nuggets. I have been to many bars here and in other states to watch games and have met many different fans, but at this bar we were warned for cheering for the Lakers "too loudly" and "bringing too much attention to ourselves" i found it odd that when i asked the owner (who was the one who told us this) if he was going to tell all the other fans in the bar the same thing. He said no, welcome to Denver. This would have been fine had our friend sitting next to us been included in this reprimanding, but alas, he was white and nothing was said to him. Me and my cousin, who is also mexican, were asked to leave because we were "too intoxicated". The sad thing is that we had only had 1 beer and a shot each. When they asked us to leave half of the bar stood up for us and said that we were doing nothing wrong. ALL OF THEM DRESSED IN COLORADO TEAM GEAR!!! I would avoid this bar at all costs and go to Lodos or drink with one of the many hobos Denver has roaming the streets, as it will be a way more fun time!

Before I even got through the doors, there was a big bouncer barking for my ID. I thought he was greeting my family and me, boy was I wrong. After being seated, we waited for our server to get done conversating with her fellow employees. All in all, our quick before the game dinner, turned into almost 2 hours of waiting. We were late to the game because of bad service. The place was not even busy.
Every time I try to give this place a shot, I??m quickly reminded why I hate this place. The people are so rude, and the servers are not good.

The Sports Column does have some good specials, but it is generally overcrowded with a frat-boy population. There are plenty of nearby places like the Dugout which are more fun to watch the game at and plenty of other bars that have a much better atmosphere. If you are looking for a meat market crowd, then the Sports Column is your place. But if you are looking for good drinks and good music, you should head elsewhere.

This is an awesome place to watch the game or meet other young people. It can get pretty crowded and crazy on the weekends and the place seems to have more than its fair share of fights....still, it is one of my favorite places to go downtown. I'm a big fan of the rooftop karaoke.

If you're looking for a downtown bar to catch a game, Sports Column is a great option. I went at 1p on a Sunday and was surprised to see how busy the place was already, when the Broncos weren't playing until 2p. The crowd actually slimmed down just before the Broncos game started and then filled up again. There are lots of TVs around the bar and many games being shown at any given time - so whoever you root for, you'll be able to find a set showing it here! Also, they had some good beer deals during the game and good pub grub.

The story below could not be farther from the truth. The Sports Column offers great customer service and the managers make sure of it. Ask any employee there and they will tell you that the owner is a stickler for customer service. Although I did have words with this customer, and for this I was terminated, it is a shame that anyone could sign up on here and tarnish the reputation a business has worked so hard to get. You cannot please everybody all of the time and the customer IS NOT always right. I wish people had to wait tables before they were allowed to eat in a restaurant and then they might see what we have to deal with and what we get paid $4 to do. We are all human and we do make mistakes! This is the type of person that is looking for a handout and that you probably wouldn't be able to please no matter how hard you tried.

While meeting with me brother at the bar for the UFC fight my brother and his friend were drinking beer. I came about 8 p.m. and my brother offered to pay for my two drinks about 9 p.m. We were VERY nice to the waitress (Becca) she was very rude and threw the bill onto our table (did not thank us or even ask if we were still drinking). We were not tabing out simply paying for our drinks separately. My brother because of her attitude only tipped 10%. She grabbed the bill looked at it in front of us shook her head and got very upset. The next time she was near our table I VERY politely asked if she would get us more drinks ant that I would pay for them and tip better. She started to walk away and said, "get your f&#$ing drinks at the bar". I told her I wanted to see he manager and she ignored me. I asked again and she said, "I don't give a sh&t who you tell." pointed out her manager and said, "he won't do anything, go ahead." After speaking to the manager she came over to us and started attacking me again. Telling me that my brother was cheap and that she wouldn't serve us. Her manager simply said he would talk to her, did not apologize or get us anymore drinks. She, for the next hour pointed us out to other customers and mummered insults under her breathe. Never will I go to this bar again

Just happened to stop in over the weekend. What a great place. The place was packed with Iowa Hawkeye fans cheering for their team. The service was great, the beer was cold. The bartenders were great. Will be first stop next time I we're back in Denver.

$1 you call it Thursdays are hideous. If all you care about is getting drunk cheaply, then by all means, this place is for you....granting you can get to the ridiculously over crowded bar. It smells like beer and urine and it takes about an hour to get across the bar. I've only been there Thursday nights, so I really can't comment on any other time there, but I hate it with a burning passion...

I love the fact that they occasionally have people monitoring the bathrooms. They only have them when they are really busy. Typically restaurants hire these people for customer service purposes and that has nothing to do with how many "stars" they feel they are rated. Another reason why restaurants/bars have bathroom attendants is to help keep the peace. They help prevent graffiti, fights, and more importantly drug use! Tipping is optional, if you don't have the money or you don't feel like tipping - Don't tip. Most bars make last call to give customers notice that the bar is closing and to remind you to close your tab, gather your belongings, and to use the bathroom if you need to. By law, they have to get everyone out of the building or they get in trouble.

Great to watch sports, join the college scene on Thursday nights (and cheap drinks!), but poor service from servers and managers. Some of the bartenders are pretty cool, but mostly average. The only thing that makes this place stand out is that it's a pretty chill place. The party-goers are friendly and the scene is anti-poshy. hooray!

The SC is a great place to watch football of any kind in a passionate and energetic atmosphere. In no way are you forced to have a Broncos jersey to enter the door. Fans of all shapes, ages and jersey colors go here. The location is right in LODO and a few blocks from coors field. The food is surprisingly good and I highly recommend any sports fan on a diet to try their version of the Philly Steak sandwich.. :)

Overall it is the best sport bar in Denver, hands down.

With a new head cook and lots of new waitstaff, the Sports Column has come a long way. Its a great place to meet new people while enjoying your favorite game. Just ask and they will put your game of choice on any of the many tvs. If you are a sports fan, this is the place to be at in Denver.

Don't pay too much attention to the nominations for best sports bar in denver. I've seen the GM hand out the nomination ballots by the stack to staff members and have them fill them out and send them in. I wouldn't be suprised if he has done the same to some of the ratings and reviews here on CitySearch as well. The place seems to be hit and miss on everything but the service at the bar. The food can be excellent one time and undercooked the next and they seem to change their specials and events on a whim. My buddies and I walked in one time saw a sign for a special and the manager looked right at us and said they didn't have it. Weak customer relations.

The Sports Column was a pleasant surprise even though it had a Web reputation as being a "sausage" bar. The food, prices and service were excellent, even though we were warned about the tall bartender. Luckily we were not sitting at the bar. The menu had many excellent choices. The "Wait-person" was very cordial and informative. She was always there without being obtrusive.
