Of all the places to buy Outdoor gear in Fort Collins I would go without before I ever buy anything from them again. The staff has a serious attitude problem and their knowledge of gear is terrible.

The Mountain Shop has nice inventory but buyer beware. Do not buy anything on sale here unless you KNOW you won't return it. They do not let you return or exchange any sale items, though that is not posted on the sale rack. They do, however, print the return policy on the receipt which you will see AFTER you have already made the purchase and there is a card stating no returns under the glass at the check out counter. Problem is, you won't see it because that's where you lay your purchases. When I called to point it out, they were very nonchalant about the whole thing. It's their choice to have the policy, which most every other store has done away with now, but they need to make it visible before purchase.

The Mountain Shop is an interesting place. I have shopped there a few times and they definitely have some cool gear on the shelves. However this last time I went I was trying on stuff in the dressing rooms and one of the employees made very rude remarks to me while I was changing, including comments on the size of my bust. I had the door shut all the way and he wouldn't leave me alone! I overheard one of the other employees call him "Rick". I left very upset and will never return, what a pig!

I stopped shopping at the old Mt Shop when I just couldn't stomach the elitist, apathetic, rude owners anymore. I was very glad to find out that the new owners are the exact opposite. They have a fantastic group of people working there who seem to genuinely want to help you get exactly what you are looking for. I just bought a brand new pair of Telemark boots there, and I came away feeling like...wow, how did they even make any money on that transaction? They spent a lot of time with me to make sure I was completely satisfied, and they did it with big smiles on their faces. I will definitely shop there again and again.

The Mountain Shop is a good store for all of your hiking and climbing needs. They have really good prices on chalk bags for rock climbing even without a sale. They also have rentals for all different outdoor sports at pretty reasonable prices. (Better than Gart Sports' rental prices). I was satisfied with my experience at the Mountain Shop and will go back.

This is a good outdoor store and a good alternative to EMS or REI. They usually have good coupons in the campus cash coupon books, which make their prices reasonable and affordable. It is a smaller store, and so doesn't have everything you might need, but what they do have is good quality and worth the money.
