Took 10 North Denver Italian ladies to lunch....the food was terrible, extremely small portions, way over priced. Someone needs to teach the cook how to cook true Italian food!!!!! Everyone extremely disappointed!!

My wife and I were in the mood for Italian tonight so we went to Gaetano's which is usually good, but tonight was different. We both ordered dishes with chicken only to find when the plates arrived and my wife cutting in to her chicken breast and actually taking that GOD AWFUL first bite that it was still raw in the middle. I quickly cut into my chicken and found the same cold pink center. We immediately told our waitress who had the manager come over and though she was polite she insisted to my wife that she would be just fine. We did receive our entrees at no charge but it isn't enough to intrigue us to return as patrons ever again.

We dined there with a few friends the other night before a play. It is definitely old-school and looks like it hasn't been updated in years, but it gives the place some charm. The service was friendly but very slow and like most Denver restaurants, the wait staff are young ski bum types that lack culinary knowledge. The food was decent but no bells and whistles. If you are looking for average Italian food at a very good price, go there.

We used to eat at gaetanos almost weekly. We went there again last evening and for the 3rd time, the food was terrible, the cosmos were terrible, the salad was warm and limp, the bread was dry, almost to the stale stage...WHAT HAS HAPPENED ??? Anyone who has lived in Denver for any length of time, knows Gaetano's...where did the old yummy Italian go?? I had lasagna which was a runny mess. it had a huge thick layer of mozz cheese and runny salty hamburger...I guess..sauce..I wasn't even certain it was lasagna...I am so disappointed...almost angry that I will not go back ...whoever has Gaetano's now will not be in business long...We Denverites want our old Gaetano's back...by the way, bring back the bartender too...where did he go?? sorry but I will have to resort to Paliachis or Olive Garden...Paliachis has decent food but very rude hostesses and waiters Olive Garden is a busy place...guess that's the place to be...so sorry but I won't waste my money on Gaetano's again.....unless I read in the news..."Under new Management" then I might give it a go...not before.

I'm sorry to say this but the food here, like most Italian in Denver and anyplace between the Hudson and San Fran, is just bad!
The preparation of the food is just plain wrong for reasons I don't have time to explain and the red sauce was so salty it was like a bad chinese take-out joint.
My eggplant parm was breaded (not bad, maybe a little heavy...) and just placed on a thin layer of sauce with melted mozzi across the top. That was it...
There was no sauce on the eggplant and certainly no "parmesan", after which the dish is named.
Rather than being a "homogenous" dish, it was more like eating eggplant cutlets, lightly topped with cheese and dipped in insanely salted tomatoe sauce. Bad.
You can't hide low quality tomatoes with salt/heavy seasoning, which is exactly what they tried. A good restaurant would be using San Marzano tomatoes which need little "help"! The natural flavor is all that's needed!!

While some of the reviews have striking points, overall they seem quite incompetent( the negative ones at least). For people who make such bold statements about a good place, they seem to be forgetting how credibility goes out the window when their reviews are shrouded by spelling and grammer errors. For christ's sake if you're going to be so critical, at least spell your f!@king s*#t right!

This just isn't a 5-star joint. But if you just want an uncomplicated, old-school ambiance with a dark bar and stiff drinks to go with your American-Italian food, than Gaetano's is a good bet. Whenever I'm too lazy to make spaghetti at home, we come here. The prices are reasonable, the food is decent and the service, while generally not overly charismatic, is good. Stick to red-sauce pasta and pizza and you'll be fine.

Cons: Not enough parking

My husband and I were looking for a new place to try, We eat out a lot! 2 to 3 times a week on most weeks. We know good service vs bad service. We read the last review on city search and decided to see for our selves.
The parking lot was full, but we managed to find a spot. immidiatley i knew this isnt an italian restaurant that you would take your girlfriend out to for a romantic night. Gaetano's is a lively restaurant, its not quiet at all. We picked a Friday night to vist the restaurant and the place was very busy. Although our waitress wasnt 100% the best we ever had; she was good. The general manager came over to take our plates and we began to talk with him as well. My husband and i were overall impressed with Gaetano's. So if you'd like to get a nice drink, they dont make theirs with wells they make it with only the best, check them out!

Took my girl on a wed eve. Had reservations everything was perfect. They had the bottle of chianti waiting and the food was wonderful from start to finish. There was a Frank Sinatra impersonator singing and the atmosphere was great! The waiter even brought us limoncello shots on the house. Thanks for a night to remember!

This place has a lot of history and atmosphere. Be sure and look around the place that once was rumored to be a thriving mafia operations center. The food is good. Lots of classic Italian favorites and all well made. Service has been good the 3 times I have been there and parking hasn't been too bad.

We went here for my girlfriend's 22nd birthday. From the get go, we had to wait for the host to walk past us multiple times before he even greeted us. Our server seemed to be going through the motions with us and had no personality whatsoever. The salads that come with the meal were perfect, cold and crisp... However when the salad is the best part of a meal we have a problem. We ordered the mushroom appetizer and found it to be cold and soggy, not to mention severely over priced for its serving size.

Our entrees came out relatively quickly, however we were disappointed to find that everything tasted like it had been sitting way too long. The ravioli tasted frozen, like it was out of a box and had a rubbery consistency that made it a chore to eat. My girlfriend, who never salts ANYTHING, found herself picking up the shaker multiple times in order to get at least some flavor out of the otherwise bland dish.

We found ourselves with empty beverage glasses multiple times and when the time came for the check to come, the waitress walked by my credit card three times before picking it up. When she finally did bring the check, she just dropped it on the table without a word of thanks.

It was hard to see the look on my girlfriends face as we walked out the door. She just seemed so sad. I would not recommend this place at all for a romantic dinner, it was loud and uninviting. I'm sorry we wasted her birthday here. We wont be back...Skip this one. I'd rather eat at some boring chain like the Olive Garden.

I live in North Denver and sample all the local spots. When I am going Italian I like Geatano's. Thay have a unique old style atmosphere as well as great food. The bartender, Tram is great mixologist and creates some great classic cacktails. The vodka gimlet is my fave. A couple of those with a order of their calamari at the bar is a great start. I have had just about everything on the menu and well, what can I say except YUUUUUM! Consistancy in food and service is why I frequent a joint and they have it covered.

Bad experience from the get go. Started off with wet seats. No big deal but it got worse from there: dirty water glasses and bread plates/ semi brown lettuce for their weak salads, and to top it off, flys buzzing around our heads orbiting the chandelier. Our waitress (nice lady though) was also the bartender which delayed our service. Our meals did not all come out at once but when they did, the sauce was actually really good in my eggplant sandwich. However, our son ordered a sausage sandwich and ended up with severe food sickness that lasted the entire night and gave us a lovely trip to the quick care the next morning. The sausage was a patty by the way and not a link. Needless to say we wont be going back.

Gaetano's is a good neighborhood place. They have a good red sauce, but house made pasta is rare. The pizza is fair, a bit salty, not always the same. Spotty service from time to time. No real happy hour, not a great bar atmosphere. The place is clean, friendly, food is good, not great. It has gotten better, but inconsistent.

It's a family place, nothing fancy. Good eggplant parm, but the lasagna isn't as interesting.

I have to agree with the previosu reviewer. Reular menu is ok, but the pizza is terrible. Chunky cheese and bland sauce. The crust was the worst part. It was flaky which ususally indicates it was old and rolled, instead of tossed. There were also screen marks on the bottom which means the pizza is never making direct contact with the pizza stone in the oven. Another sign of bad pizza more akin to Dominos.

After a high recommendation from a friend, my husband and I went to Gaetano's for the first time with very high expectations only to end up very disappointed by the extremely slow and inattentive service. We were seated right away, but waited almost an hour and a half for our meal. We started off with a flat beer, but great salads (both the ceasor and the house salad with gorgonzola dressing) which came about 20 mins after we had ordered. After an hour of waiting, the hostess came over and asked if we were waiting for something and I replied, 'YES, our food.' 10-15 mins later, the manager came over with our meal and had apologized which was nice, but at this point in time, I was too furious too accept any sort of apology. He was nice enough to comp our meal, but I was too upset to sit there and eat, and just left. Yes, I lost control of my patience and made a little scene, but I was tired, hungry and just lost my patience! As much as I would have loved to have tried their food, I definitely will not be going back.

Since new owners recently took over here the menu, food, ambiance and service has very much improved. The restaurant is brighter and less smokey (less dive feeling) and the waitstaff is more professional and attentive. The chicken scallopine is addictive! If you tried it before and weren't impressed (like me) give it another shot.
