First let me say that I know food and wine, working in the industry for a long time and working as a wine consultant to top restaurants in the Dallas area. And although Billies doesn't serve wine, they do serve up some great tasting coffee. I just dined at Billies over the weekend with a friend of mine (she grew up on gourmet food) and my little guy who's four. I was a little nervous to eat here because I had eaten here previously when it was under different ownership and it was excellent then - would this new ownership be able to fill those shoes? YES. The first thing I love about Billies is the atmosphere - this eatery really defines Brighton with it's small town feel - Billies is quaint, clean, and definitely has an old school diner appeal.

They placed my son's order of Kiddie Cakes right away, while we glanced at the menu - so much to choose from. My son likes Billies because they put a whipped cream smiley face on his kiddie cakes, he gets a coloring book and crayons to work on while we wait (and I love that too), and after our meal is over, they give him a quarter and a bag so he can go out to the foyer to get candy from the machines.

I had the green chili omelet, which was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection, light and fluffy. The breakfast potatoes were also very good - crisp on the outside and soft in the middle and their homemade pancakes at Billies are always fluffy with a great flavor and texture. And I can't forget to mention that they don't scrimp on the bacon. No, they use the real farm bacon, cut thick - it's awesome when ordered crispy. My friend enjoyed the strawberry stuffed french toast, and said that it's right up there with her mom's gourmet stuffed french toast. Our waitress and the staff were very attentive and our coffee was always full and the cream promptly replenished.

Although it took a longer-than-you'd-like-to-wait wait, when our food finally did arrive it was delicious! And at under $6.00 a plate, we felt like we were robbing Billies.

Billies has been in Brighton a long time, most of the clients have lived here many years and are regulars! It has a small town diner atmosphere like an orginal lived-in Gunther Toodies. My breakfast was very good, well cooked, able to get hot spice toned down, old fashioned not heart healthy food! Fewer open hours than most restaurants.

PROS: old fashiioned food, hearty
CONS: hours open, splurge if on heart healthy diet!

It is a little piece of heaven tucked away in the small town of Brighton just a few miles north of Denver. The portions are large and the food is delicious. The servers can dish it up too. You get home cookin and don't have to stick around to wash your plate. I had the breakfast burrito. Yum! The green chili is just one of the many things made from their own family recipes. All the kids get a quarter when they leave the restaurant. It is definitely family oriented.
