I would never board my horse here, and thankfully I had the smarts to not put my name back on their "list". The general horse population was at one time at least put out together on a rocky hill where they fight and go after one another in not so safe fencing. Many colics treated here. I worked for a horse vet for three years that made repeated visits to these stables for alfalfa/ gas type colics, and injuries. The inside stalls on top of the hill are dark, small, and dreary. Riding arena had terrible footing, you wouldn't want to lunge or work any horse on the hard, rocky ground. No decent sand in the arena. My self and a friend were on their so called " waiting list" for boarding - spoke to a short, large grumpy woman in the office. I believe one of the owners. She was not friendly. She assured us that we would be put on their list. Checked back three months later - nobody on the list had moved and we werent even recorded as being on it! These people seem shady - in it for the money. Not too concerned for the welfare of the customers that they take out on their dude rides. When I have been riding in the park - trailer my horses in - friends and I have seen little kids in the saddle, their legs not even long enough to fit into the stirrups! Not to safe! But its all about the money Id say! The poor horses look tired and wore out in general. No fresh stock - same old grade horses year after year.

While the Academy Riding Stables is expensive, they offer the best ride for the value. Rides go through the Garden of the Gods park and it is scenery like you have never seen before. The stables are clean and the horses are well cared for. They cater to all ages and the staff makes safety and instructions a priotity. The staff is friendly and sincerely want people to have a good experience and fun ride.

Pro: Great Staff and Very Safe
Cons: Price (worth it though)

The Academy Riding Stables offers a breathtaking horseback ride through Garden of the Gods, but it is quite expensive. You are able to find coupons in various visitor guides, and that does help. You have an option of 1, 2 or 3 hours rides and there are pony rides for children as well. If you don't mind the cost, the ride is beautiful.

PROS: Beautiful views and fun ride
CONS: Price - very expensive

I went to the Academy Riding Stables while on vacation. I told them I was an inexperienced rider. While on the ride I was THROWN from my horse after she took off to a FULL RUN. They refused to let me speak with the owner to try to get a refund for the ride. I payed for a one hour ride and was only on horseback for all of fifteen minutes, along with my husband! I sent the owner numerous emails with no response what so ever.
