The food is good and is very reasonably priced. Walk up the hill on your lunch hour or go in the evening, park in the lot on the north side of the building, order their veggie tempura, salmon and some saki and enjoy the experience.

Pros: New management, good menu, reasonable prices

.

Customer Service is much improved, they have some fresh faces. Friendlier staff, even if mostly japanese. Looks like they did some Remodeling, & free parking after 3pm. Same menu, still economical pricing, even if prices have been slightly raised. After reading other reviews, looks like the korean grandma doesn't work there anymore.

I've noticed a few negative reviews lately for Taki's - and I think I have the answer - the owner of Taki's passed away about six months ago - the "brusque" woman who keeps getting mentioned is NOT the owner. The restaurant is currently being managed by a holding group until the new owners take possession. Until then it's sort of on auto pilot. Give it a try after the new owners get hold of it.

Cons: Currently is in flux

I have been going to Taki's for years. Ever since the little unhappy grandma started taking orders, I have tolerated her rude and hostile behavior. But today is the LAST day I will ever go in there. I will make sure everyone I know hears about my experience. She took my order and gave me something I did not order. Then asked me if I wanted sauce on it, and just as I was going to ask a simple question of "what kind of sauce?" she interrupted me and yelled, "JUST ANSWER THE QUESTION!" She is the worst part of the dining experience at Taki's, which is very unfortunate. Especially when you are on your lunch "break" away from the work madness. Who needs it?

Cons: hot inside on warm days:rude service; food is not always up to par

We go to Taki's often. They are the source of the great ginger miso paste sold in groceries. Their miso soup is great for a cold. They have unusual menu items and you need to pay attention to the pictures and descriptions or you will be surprised. Most of the food is very healthy and edamame is free for families with kids. The staff is friendly and will get to know you.

I used to be a regular at Taki's but I've been there for the last time. Before the counter help even took my order she pointed to the tip jar. The veggies in my udon consisted for iceberg lettuce - that's it. Sadly, I can no longer recommend the place - too bad.

Pros: none any more

Cons: food and service

I made the mistake of going to Taki's for a quick dinner tonight. I used to go about 4 years ago, when I remember it being better.

My meal was hardly edible - lots of wilted or past-ripe vegetables in my tempura. The miso soup had limp bits of lettuce (not even seaweed), and they've stopped serving sushi. Hopefully they'll stop serving anything (ie - close down) soon with any luck.

Save yourself the bad experience and walk a block down to Tokyo Joe's if you want something similar.

I frequented this place quite a bit my senior year in college while I interned close by. I couldn't wait to take my teenage mentee to experience something new. The food was great. The service by the owner? Not so great. My mentee was working on a service learning project and left her poster on an unused table to do some work on it while we ate. The owner walked by and politely inquired of the poster. She actually stopped and talked about the project with my mentee. About 30 minutes later, the owner decided the poster was a nuisance. (Might I add we were one of 5 groups in the restaurant, so seating was not an issue.) Instead of asking us to move the poster, the owner took a passive aggressive approach by walking by our table and, without stopping, said "Move your poster. This is not your home; it's a place of business." When I tried to politely talk with her about asking us to move it in an acceptable way, she walked away. Apparently this place is so popular, she doesn't need any more regular customers. When I informed her I would no longer spend my money there, she said she didn't care. So, great food, great price, but I won't go there and support a business that has a stick up their cavity. I?ve always received great customer service at Kokoro?s.

What a goldmine. I have been going to Taki's since it was across the street and it has been the BEST food for over 20 years. A perfect combination of efficiency, quirkiness, healthy, and delicious. The seafood is amazing, very good sushi, wonderful tempura and sauces that make me weak with pleasure. A varied and changing menu offers something for everyone, even my misguided friends who think they don't like Japanese food.

Pros: The best restaurant in the world. Also happens to be affordable!

I really miss this place. I no longer live in Denver and this is the place I miss the most. The tempura is so freaking fantastic. It might not be as lightly fried as a lot of japanese restaurants but it is so so good. The yakisoba is great. The flu killer soup is not only delicious it really does make you feel better when you're under the weather. I have ate at Taki's no less then 200 times, often eating it for a week straight, every day. I can honestly say I never had a bad meal or a bad experience there.

It is true they don't give you a knife to cut your veggies. So if you need a knife to cut your veggies you should either go to your mommies house or bring your own.

I swear you cannot find a better deal! they have the best food for almost nothing! if you enjoy good food, dont go anywhere else. The chicken teriyaki is excellent. The people who work there are very nice, and are also very helpful. I have taken many people there and they all agree that it is great.

Yes the food is cheap, but the taste is horrible. I ordered the chicken terriyaki. Do you know how dog food smells? Well that's how their food taste. Don't waste your money!!!

I've eaten at a lot of places in denver since moving here just over a year ago, and so far, this is the best place. This is not even taking into consideration how inexpensive it is. One of the major problems in restaurants is inconsistency- Taki's, after now having been there at least 15 times, is VERY CONSISTENTLY GOOD. I have never been disappointed. The salmon platter is delicious and I can't believe it is 6 bucks or so- great mix of flavors, generous portion without being ridiculously large, option to have brown rice (very good). The udon noodles are also the best I have ever had and I also love the shrimp tempura. I wish they would bottle their teriyaki sauce so I could have it at home (it is homemade). My hubby (a food snob who is a NYC native and also lived in san fran for 5 years) has said he has also never had udon noodles so good. They are delicious. The miso soup is also GREAT.
Denver as a whole does NOT have a lot of good places to eat, and the ones that are okay are wayyy expensive and think they are a LOT better than they really are just because they have tablecloths and high prices. Taki's is the best restaurant we have found in Denver. Don't let the slightly sketchy Colfax location or the yellow awnings throw you. It is extremely good and not scary. The people are even consistently friendly and courteous. If you haven't tried Taki's yet, do yourself a favor and get down there. It's right across from the Capitol building.

What a great place. Taki's has been around for a good while, and cafeteria-like ordering goes like clockwork. Food and folks who run this place are just excellent, especially given such reasonable prices.

Parking is free after 3pm in the lot just north of the restaurant; another plus.

Ginger Miso Soup is REQUIRED for anyone even THINKING about a cold or the flu! Healthy!

Taki's has been my family's favorite restaraunt for over 10 years. The staff is very, very nice and friendly, and the food is amazing. Other places are good, but Taki's is home.

The food is delicious and in the Japanese way, is very pleasing to the eye. I think this is better than Kokoro, but I have only been to the Arvada location so maybe I'm wrong. The sushi is good for being pre-made. Tofu bowl is beautiful and tasty, though a bit lacking in flavor - this makes it a good choice for the health-conscious. I can't wait to try more of their menu items.

I've eaten at taki's numerous times, and almost all the food is mediocre except the salmon bowl ... this thing is unbelievable. A fairly large piece of salmon with a great mustardy sauce and rice ... all for less than $5. you'd pay $15-$20 for this at any other restaurant and it probably won't be as good ...

The grease alone speaks to the so-called healthy nature of most of the food served at Taki's. Huge portions (too much really) of fried, fried, fried vegetables (whole veggies, mind you--and just try to find a knife in the place). Sushi rolls were too big and had little flavor. If it weren't for the nice nice staff, I don't think I'd give the place more than the four tries I've already given it... As it is, I will order only the Miso soup, which IS quite delicious and generous.

What a bargin. You get a huge meal on the cheap. It is always tasty and often not the same as the day before. Taki seems to like to innovate regularly. No matter what he does it will be healthy and you will enjoy!

The combo meals here are tasty, healthy and cheap. Sit by the window and watch the wacky Colfax scene wander by. Or, if you're styaing at one of the nearby hotels, you might get your meal to go and grab a beer at one of the sketchy liquor stores nearby. At night, the neighborhood gets a tad sketchy -- so keep an eye out.
