This Texas style barbecue joint, run by two best friends, uses homemade recipes and a smoky barbecue pit for all their dishes. Focusing primarily on brisket, ribs and chicken, Hoke's dishes out Cajun fare as well.
Hoke's BBQ and Country Fixin's is the perfect place for people who love BBQ. The BBQ chicken will satisfy you in ways you couldn't imagine. Not to mention the waiting staff is incredibly friendly.

Hoke's was touted as "genuine Texas BBQ"
Silly me, I went in expecting juicy, smoked brisket, sweet-tangy and thick red sauce, and some good southern fixin's as sides.
I found none. The "meat" was flavorless, lacking in color, smoke, texture, moisture and all else that makes BBQ great. It was also horridly overpriced. The sides were all a'la carte and not worth the plates served on. The service was nonexistent.
The place was grimy, dingy, and smelled (Not of good smoke and charcoal, either.)
I wouldn't ever go back, nor would I recommend anyone else bother wasting their money.
Pros: Can't Think of Any.
Cons: Bad Food, Indifferent Service, NO Atmosphere

My wife and I have eaten here a couple times, and have had good experiences each time. I have tried their their "Big Ol Dinner Platter" with brisket, pork, and ribs while my wife has tried the Pork Sandwich. Their meat and sauce is tasty, but probably just on the above average side. The sweet potato fries are a good appetizer to try out as well. The $1 Pabst Blue Ribbon is definitely a good deal as far as cheap beer specials go, so that is a plus.
If you are taking a BBQ tour of Denver, I'd definitely put it on the list.
Pros: Sweet potato fries, meat, and sauce

I was in the Denver area on busines, when traveling I look for little family run ethnic places, Others obviously had a better experience than I did.
The chopped sandwich was juicy, but completely lacking in any real good smoke flavor.
The spicy or hot sauce had a very narrow sour flavor, not well balanced.
I should have known what to expect from the gumbo when I noticed the box of Minute Rice box on the top shelf in the kitchen.
And when it came time to settle up, my server didn't know the menu well enough to bill me for the sandwich with drink and soup for an additional $4...and she wasn't willing to correct her error when it was pointed out. $6 for the sandwich plus $9 for a bowl of gooey gruel and a soft drink.
This trip, I feasted on Pho, gorged on Gorditas El Pastor, chowed General Tso's Chicken, ate one one of the best Cheeseburgers ever .... and found this place.
Pros: Good oldies on the juke box.
Cons: I believe my comments tell it all-

A great crowd of people. I've found the service to be sadly lacking. The bbq is sometimes good and sometimes not. A $6.00 chopped beef sandwich. For Colorado bbq its better than the national chains but still not SERIOUS TEXAS BBQ!

We ate here last weekend. My husband and I both got "sick" from the food. The waitress was less than helpful and would not show us an itemized price list for our bill. The surroundings were cold and I would not recomend this place to anyone. Dont listen to the "great" reviews, they haven't eaten here lately.
Pros: Cannot think of any
Cons: Cannot think of anything but

I'm absolutely spoiled on the prime rib! I can't order it anywhere else. Best ribs in denver, served with sauce on the side and falling off the bone (truly Texas style). All the bbq is excellent and the prices can't be beat. My kids love it!
Pros: The atmosphere is great, a real family place.

Very Surprised to find great Catfish. BBQ was sampled and was excellent. Returned for Friday Night Special (Smoked Prime Rib), and had an excellent meal at a good price.

the ribs are by far the best in town and all the other food is great too. From the ribs to brisket, chicken etc, they also have gumbo and a prime rib on fridays that is very good.
most importantly they have 1$ pabst draws all the time and is a great place to just stop and have a beer.
Pros: Inexpensive, atmisphere

Truly the best smokey barbeque I have had in Denver for many years. We had an end of year lunchen for our employees and they all loved it, everyone had seconds and thirds even. First time when their wasn't much left. Ribs were meaty and fall off the bone finger lickin good. Beef and pork were also juicy and tender and the sausage was not fatty with a great smokey flavor. The sauces are perfect, one a little spicy and a mild thats a little sweet, they are still barbeque sauce and not trying to be hot sauce. Friendly people and friendly service. We will definetly return.
Pros: great food, great sauce, friendly service

Very good ribs and Pabst for a buck a can. The ribs were St. Louis style, very tender, and just slid off the bone. Choice of sweet (traditional) sauce or a tangy sauce they call spicy -- try both. Sausage links were quite good as well. Coleslaw was phenomenal -- light on the sauce, green peppers. BBQ beans were also quite good -- not overly sweet, yet distinctly smoky.
About 10 stools around the bar, one booth, and about 8 counter height tables in the restaurant. Seating on a patio when it is nice outside.

Words can't truly describe how good the BBQ is here. I'm from out of town and felt like having some BBQ so I did some research and came up with Hoke's and I know that the next time I'm sent out on business I'll be returning for some more great eats!!!
