This library is old and it shows. It is very cramped and dark. There is a major renovation scheduled soon, and that should make a world of difference. Aside from appearance, the staff does the best it can with what it has. Everyone is friendly and helpful. They run many different programs for children and adults. I have sometimes been disappointed by the lack of selection when trying to do research, but I have been satisfied with the fiction collection.

PROS: Friendly staff
CONS: Old facility

Torrington Library has a lot more to offer than what is apparant when you walk in. The children's section has toys, puzzles, audio books with listening station and books for all ages from infants to teens. They also run programs year-round for kids (storytimes, summer reading programs, etc). For adults there are banks of computers for public use, large, beautiful reading rooms with tons of newspapers and magazines, and of course stacks and stacks of books to browse through! Up on the top level there is an audiobook, DVD and VHS rental department. Every employee or volunteer I have met has been very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. There are a few spots of free parking in front of the building, the rest fo the parking is coin-operated in the city lot behind it. Closed Saturdays in the summer but open until 8 pm Wed and Thu.
