My favorite local nail salon switched owners. I got an infection with my first manicure with the new owners. I was on a search for a trusted salon.

Nails 2000 was the fourth or fifth place I tried. What I found was a clean nail salon. The regular customers have their own "boxes" with their own buffers and nail files. I found a salon at which the equipment is cleaned. I found a salon at which the pedicure technicians change the blades when they remove calluses. (At less than a penny a blade, you'd THINK that this would be common procedure!! Be wary, though: some salons don't do this simple step.)

I found a salon with excellent customer service. They do a lovely fill (acrylic). The pedicures are heaven. Pricing is right along the local range: $15 for a fill, $20 for a pedicure, $10 for a manicure. For $3, Linda will paint a design on your nails. (She also paints them to mirror each other, instead of the easier art-on-both-hands pointing-the-same-way.)

The technicians know their regular customers.

Nails 2000 meets my strict cleanliness guidelines, and they go above and beyond with the service. There are two salons within a block of my office. Using Citysearch, I found a total of 8 within walking distance from my office. Nonetheless, I'm willing to drive 5.3 miles, even with gas prices being what they are. It's worth it - not only to avoid infection but to also have pretty hands.

As a legal secretary, my hands are visible when I'm carrying files, notarizing, or typing. I also can't risk an infection in my hands that would keep me from doing my job. As a woman with neuropathy in my hands, I can't do the grooming necessary to keep my hands pretty. I'm grateful that I have a shop I can trust.

Pros: Clean shop, easily accessible (Route 1), free parking, pricing at local standard
