*My heart is broken, my beloved dog is dead, and I do not want this happening to another person/family.* I wish I could give a zero rating.

My beloved dog Blizzard died under Wagging Tails Care. Yes, I said he died. Please Read Before Hiring Wagging Tails Pet Sitting /Grooming Service! It's been several weeks since a horrific accident that caused the death of my beloved dog Blizzard occurred under the care of Wagging Tails Pet Sitting Service -which services Southington, Cheshire, and Bristol, CT. Their website is waggingtails.com .

I debated as whether or not to post my experience on various sites, but I feel I have a moral obligation to let people know of my experience and then they can make their own decision on whether or not to use this service. I feel a tremendous amount of guilt about Blizzard's death, because I had a horrible experience with Wagging Tails several years ago. Several years ago the person doing the sitting consult forgot to add on days communicated to her to my dog Bailey's visit schedule. I came home from being away to find my dog Bailey covered in urine and feces, no water/food and I thought to myself "he could have died". I was so upset that I tried lodging a complaint with the local Southington Chamber of Commerce, BBB, as well as some pet sitting associations , and of course with Wagging Tails. I grew up in CT, and no longer reside there, but when visiting I sometimes need a pet sitting service. Flash forward to several years later, I again need a pet sitting company in Southington CT & have trouble finding a name of a reliable pet sitting service ( even asked a local vet). Family members were away, and I again find the Wagging Tails website online. The website is newer, the site boasts of numerous Reader Choice awards and positive testimonials everywhere. They flash they are proud members of PSI, local chambers of commerce members, NAPS, etc. I see all of this on their website and make the terrible mistake of giving them another chance. I had an uneasy feeling when meeting with the consult sitter named Lorraine (same woman who made a mistake with Bailey's schedule years ago), so much so that I asked the manager Danielle to find another sitter for me. I spoke with Danielle about the experience several years back and she put me at complete ease. Danielle was pleasant and told me she would make sure everything went smoothly this time with my 2 dogs Blizzy (Blizzard) & Izzy (Isabella).

Blizzard was a diabetic dog and I needed to make sure he was cared for in detail. I left detailed instructions; spoke with Danielle in great length. Danielle actually went on the first visit with the sitter to make sure it went smooth (and called me to reassure me). The evening visit came and the sitter named Blake gave my dog *30* units of insulin versus *3* units he needed. He then did not stay his scheduled hour shift- left right after the shot (you see if he stayed even 5 minutes he would have seen him start to have seizures). My dog suffered a cold, cruel night of seizures. The sitter Blake then did not come at his 6 am shift- he came well after 7 am. I will not go into all the details, but my dog was rushed to the vet (I came rushing home from my trip), and then to a 24 hr. care facility where I prayed and hoped for a miracle for a week. He was brain dead and never came back to me. In addition, I left specific instructions for my other dog Izzy not to be left in her crate with her harness ( she was and chewed it and the huge plastic clips & metal rings and needed to be xrayed to make sure she wasn't injured).

While Wagging Tails did pay for both dogs medical bills, and I did get a nominal fee for Blizzard's death from their insurance (which I donated to an animal rescue) - I decided in good faith that I could not be silent with my experiences with Wagging Tails. They say this is the first time this has happened, but I am honestly not sure (since I had a previous bad experience). The owner Krista seems to be away when these events have happened to me in the past. I did receive flowers from the company, and genuine apologies. Bottom line, I believe the company does not have any quality control or spot checks in place and they allowed an obviously inexperienced, incompetent, and very irresponsible person to care for my family member and kill him. They assured me they have made changes in policies, but I have never received any confirmation that Blake was fired.
My heart is broken, my dog is dead, and I do not want this happening to another person/family. Thank you for reading this, and taking it into consideration."

I posted this review on another page, and I'l post it again here:

I've been a client since 1999 and I have NEVER had a bad experience. I have 2 dogs and 5 cats (1 of which requires medication), and WT has been there for them every single time! I had a minor issue once ( my fault), in the initial interview I'd asked them to leave a certain light on, and subsequently got timers and forgot to tell the sitter not to worry about alternating lights, so they did as was told and alternated lights, which screwed up the timers (again, my fault for neglecting to leave a note stating otherwise). When I got home, I called the office to tell them of the change, and the girl on the phone put me on hold, and I was immediately connected to the owner, who apologized profusely for the mix up, even though I assured her it was my error. I've had last minute emergencies (when I went into labor), and called the office on a Saturday afternoon and received a call within an hour letting me know that my message had been received and my "critters" would be visited! it's amazing to call a business and once mentioning my name, they know who I am and what I need.
I would recommend WT to anyone! My pets are almost disappointed when I come home and their visits with the sitters are over! not to mention, the sitters always go beyond the call of duty and do little things to make me feel that my pets, and my home were being well cared for!! (Pups had some accidents in the crate and the sitter laundered the blankets that were in there!)
I never had to pay in advance, i paid for the initial interview for a sitter to come out and meet my critters and get all their info, and I had the option of leaving a check or a cc number.
As with any service, I'd suggest not just relying on one review, but a)asking around, and b)taking into consideration the amount of time the company has been around.
Anyone can have a spotless record after being in business for a short time with limited clientele, but to be around as long as WT has been, and have only a couple naysayers, I'd be quick to dismiss the naysayers...besides, my vet recommends them, and if you can't trust your vet, then why are you taking your pets there?
And as to billing errors, you should check your invoices for everything, whether receipts at walmart where the cashier may have rung something up twice, to your phone bill where they may accidentally charge you for long distance calls when you have a long distance plan...obviously if your error is legitimate you could go to the BBB and they would correct the error...I find it hard to believe that any company would ignore concrete facts such as obvious overbilling...not to mention when you call to book they give you a total price, if you find a discrepancy you'd be able to mention it before you actually get a bill seeing as payment is expected to be left at home when visits begin (read your contract), or charged to a cc when you book....
As for 3 walkers in 6 months, i don't know anyone who works 24/7 for 6 months straight....i was told from the beginning that although they would try to keep the number of sitters to a minimum, they can't guarantee the same person every time...do you always get the same teller when you go to a bank?! Again, read your contracts! As a small business owner myself, I am discouraged with the people that feel they can do no wrong. Yes, businesses make mistakes, but I've had WT as sitters for 13 years now and have NEVER had an issue that wasn't resolved with a simple phone call!

HORRIBLE. they try to overbill you. I am an accountant so I double checked my bill every time and there were usually errors. If you use them, CHECK your bill. They claim to be oblivious to previous conversation about errors on bills. On top of it, I had 3 dog walkers in 6 months. The first left my door unlocked multiple times, the second one left the company, and the third (althought sweet as pie) was not physically suited to be walking a large dog (arm in a sling and other ailments). Such an utter disappointment. absolutely do not use if you have any sort of expectations on getting service you pay for and being accurately billed.

I love this service. I can leave my pets home in their own environment and people that love my animals come and take care of them. They also bring in mail!

PROS: one on one attention, watch ohouse, bring in mail, garbage out
CONS: more expensive than kennel

If you don't like locking your pets up in a kennel, Wagging Tails pet sitting service is a viable option. The prices are reasonable and they really do a great job.
