My friend has been going to the Angry Chair for years and always told me I should check it out. I finally went last night and had Dave as my artist. He was super nice the second I walked in the door. I gave him an incredibly vague idea of what I was looking for. I think I said, "I need something that's moderately professional for work, and I saw a short-ish long-ish cut online that I liked (I provided NO photo)". I didn't really give him anything else to go on. He asked some questions about me, what I do, what I like, etc?
I've had black hair and Bettie Paige bangs for about ten years. My husband wanted me to go black and fire-engine red... when I mentioned that to Dave he said, "you know I'm not really feeling that... that's been you for forever... let's do something that makes people say 'oh wow, that's awesome'... let's make a 'new you'." I have to point out that it??s really awesome that Dave LISTENED to me blabbing on about myself. He based his idea for my hair on the things I told him about my personal life. That??s not something I??ve EVER experienced anywhere else.
Dave listened to music and rocked out hard-core while doing ??his thing??. He kept looking at me from different angles to make my cut something unique? and perfect. I told him at one point he was too hard on himself because he seemed to never be satisfied with what he had done. That kind of personal and work ethic is NOT something that you come by very often in today??s society.
I was there for four hours. Dave gave me an amazing cut that frames my face in a really flattering way. I look WAY younger than my age (28), which surprises me every time I look in the mirror. He also took my ??usually dark hair? in a different direction. With his creative freedom, he turned a boring, bland, overly thick and damaged disaster into? well into a work of art. He used over 20 alternating layers of black, fire-engine red, and blonde all over and gave me depth and volume but without needing to use ANY product. My hair looks EXACTLY the way I always used to try to get it to look via styling? (with bump-it??s and AquaNet and clips?) but on its own: because of the cut.
The Angry Chair is absolutely somewhere I would recommend to ANYONE who wants to have a great experience. The customer service is outstanding. The talent is unbelievable. And at the end of my four hours, the price is what amazed me the most. I went there expecting to spend some VERY serious money, especially after spending four hours there and seeing the final product. When Dave told me what he was going to charge me, I honestly was dumbfounded. He seriously undercharged me for the services rendered.
Thanks SO much Dave. You can ABSOLUTELY count on seeing me again. :)

My husband and I love The Angry Chair. He, in fact, refuses to get his hair cut anywhere else, and after my new style there, I won't get it cut anywhere else either. Now before anything, let me mention, this salon is most definitely a rock/metal environment. You won't hear any muzak, pop or top hits radio in this salon. The music is heavy and they like to play it (tolerably) loud. If you have a problem with this, then this salon is probably not for you. But like they say, if the music's too loud, you're too old. Also, I should mention, the salon is very guy-friendly, and is a place where a guy wouldn't mind bringing his girl to get her hair done, because he'll probably end up getting it done too.

Dave, the owner, and hairdresser Lara are friendly and gregarious. They will listen to what kind of style you are thinking of and address any questions or concerns you might have. They will also offer their input as to what they think would look great on you. The only thing I may have to say that is a con is that yes, sometimes your hair will take a while to do, (however, mine took a very reasonable two hours for a cut, highlighting on very dark hair, and a thorough blow dry). Do not plan on going on a day that you are on a schedule or a very tight time table. That being said, Dave or Lara will work on your hair and take as much time as you need until you are completely satisfied with what you are going for. Unlike some other salons I have been to, they won't finish what style they think you want and then off you go. Once they have dedicated their time to you, they won't stop until you like what they see. Lara actually insisted that she put some more highlights in my hair because she felt it could have been better - and my hair came out great! Yes, if you are on the other side of the store waiting for your appointment, it may be tedious for you, but once you are in the chair, you will get what you came in for. Remember, they are working on a small staff and they have no receptionist, aside from themselves.

The prices are extremely reasonable. And I went in thinking I was going to do a very minimal cut and highlight, and Lara changed my mind and turned it into something much better. If you're looking for a different place to get your hair transformed, give the Angry Chair a shot.

********WARNING*********

This place is not only dirty, but unprofessional, and LACKING - to say the least - in any type of hairstyling skills.
The owner's girlfriend is a complete DITZ and totally SCREWED UP my hair. By the time she was done, my hair was burnt to a crisp. I had to have another stylist TRY to fix the damage she had done.

I've been going to the angry chair for several years now: yes, the shop is more "casual" than some which make it more comfortable.
Dave does a great job with both coloring and cut: I have never been disappointed. And on the one occasion that I had difficulty doing the styling myself, I went back and he worked with me again at no charge and in time for me to get to my function. Do plan on spending some time there, bring a book and enjoy!

I have been going to this salon for about a year (if not longer) and loved the way the girl did my hi-lites and cut. I called to make an appmt and was informed that she was no longer there. They gave me someone else to do my hilites and cut. This person did such a terrible job!! Not only was my hair ORANGE but she was supposed to straighten it for me and it was curly in back on the bottom. I was so agravated that I called them a few days later to speak with the manager/owner who i left a message for and he never called me back. Gotta love the customer service...NOT!

I understand the look the angry chair is going for, which is what i expected to recieve, HOWEVER i sat in the salon for about six hours....still leaving very unhappy. Sinks were disgusting and had hair in them...i probably should of ran but tried to stay optimistic. The girl doing my hair was probably the worst colorist ive ever been too...and still charged me the price of a high end salon. I noticed alot of their products were from sally beauty supply...which is gross in my opinion. If i am going to pay 130 dollars to get my hair cut and colored...it better not be some generic SH*T. NOt to mention the stylist claimed to not have to toner she needed to fix my hair...wait and you are a salon? NEVER GO HERE unless you dont give a f*ck about what you look like. Left with almost everything i said i was trying to avoid....and orange hair. Think twice!

The Angry Chair is a great place to get your hair done, whether you're looking for blue and purple spikes or something more traditional, the stylists are amazing and cool people to hang with while you're there. I have been to many different salons and day spas in the West Hartford area, but my hair looks best after going to see Dave at The Angry Chair.

Pros: Relaxed, Fun environment, Great Value for your money, Late hours and Weekends

Cons: Sometimes they're running behind, however they'll take just as much time making sure you're satisfied before they're done with you too.
