While I enjoy most of the doctors and the vet assistants I have to agree with the above poster that Dr. Kearl treats her patients and their owners like dirt. After bringing in our dog because she was in pain she stated how she hated the breed and yelled at my wife for how we handled the dog. This is unnecassary and uncalled for. She has no people skills and should not be working the animals at all. This maybe my last time back as I will not tolerate that behavior. Which is unfortunate because Dr. Gustafson is fantastic and cares for the animals and answers questions we all have without trying to make us feel bad about asking them.

I have been bringing my pets to Portland Vet for over 10 years, and I must say I think I'm ready to switch vets. The staff tends to be insensitive and sometimes downright rude, and the past few times I've gone in for my dog, Dr. Kearl has made me feel like the worst pet owner on earth. Her approach is condescending and belittling, and at times you feel like you are wasting her time. If your dog is suffering from separation anxiety or needs any type of behavioral/mental health medication, don't go here because she flat-out refuses to prescribe it. I feel that I'm doing the right thing by asking for help so that my dog can live a happy, anxiety-free life, but have walked out feeling like an idiot.
Plus, it's downright expensive. They don't offer payment plans or to even bill you later if you're in a pinch. If you make the mistake of asking if they offer either, you're glared at for not having an "emergency pet fund" (which they suggest you keep $2,000+ in... HA!) or pet insurance. I would not recommend them. I'm going to go to the Humane Society's clinic from now on, which is a shame because Portland Vet is literally less than a mile away from my house.

I have used this vet for several years and am VERY happy with them. They always take the time to be thorough in their examinations and explain everything to me so I understand what's happening. We have two dogs...one older and one very young, so their needs are different. Our older dog had full bloodwork done and the Dr. spent lots of time on the phone with me when I called to get the results. I would recommend them to anyone who loves their pets and wants to keep them healthy.

I go out of town and wish I didn't have to as this facility is clean and for the most part the people are great. I don't take my animals here ever since my spouse took one of our dogs for his annual checkup and the vet slapped my dog. I don't know why my husband didn't tear into the vet, but I won't go there.
