Within a year, I had two bouts of Diverticulitis (at 38 years old) and given antibiotics as treatment. The third time I went in and the pain was more severe and this time had a fever. I waited 40 min before I was seen. When they finally called me in, I was not seen by a physician OR a physicians assistant. I was treated by the assistant's assistant who insisted that it was just a bladder infection. I tried to explain my history, but she would not listen. I left in severe pain and went immediately to North Stonington Clinic who referred me to the emergency room. Turns out that my bowel was perforating. I was given heavy antibiotics and pain killers. Once the infection was under control I ended up having surgery to remove a portion of my intestine. I'm still shocked that Seaport Medical let me walk out in the condition that I was in. Appalling.
