I agree with all the negative feedback written by many users on MV Kennel. Im a new dog owner and boarded my puppy there a month ago- mainly based on the recommendation of a coworker who was initially happy with the experience until she asked to see the facilities where her puppy was to be boarded on a second occasion: she was given some non sensical response.

My own experience was worse in the sense that during the first and last four day stay of my dog he lost weight, was terrified and very happy that I got him out of MV's "care".

I also agree that the staff is nice on the surface but I encourage anyone to ask the hard questions before you consider this place.
As of today- I'm still looking for a reputable and professional place where I can take my 10months old pup.

Don't listen to these people, our dog has boarded at the vineyard and has been going to doggy daycare for over a year, the staff is great, my dog loves it doesn't want to leave. I have never had a doubt in my mind that they aren't doing a great job.

Marta's is a total joke. They say they provide the extra's but they really don't and they treat the dogs poorly. They are more concerned with their appearances and making $. They try to up-sell every customer when they arrive by adding a bath or TV or silly stuff. Instead they should be more concerned with everything else that goes on. For the amount you pay to have your dog or dogs here you can have someone come into your house or try one of the other doggie facilities around.

The exact same experience happened with us! After boarding our dog for YEARS- Kerry pulled this same crap on us- leaving us to hunt for a kennel last minute. She also came back at us making claims that our dog barked too much. Well- why did they write happy faces on his "report card" all these years saying he is a very happy talkative dog?! We would purchase all of the extra hugs & kisses & grooming- a lot of money. Kerry is not the same Kerry we experienced in our early years of boarding him. We will NEVER be back & NEVER recommend this place to anyone.

What an unprofessional run business. A real shame. My husband and I planned our pre-honeymoon ( by pre-honey moon, I mean we are both working long hours and haven't found our time yet for a real long vacation!) in NYC a few weeks back. I called Marta's Vineyard Kennel in Brookfield, CT a few weeks ago to make sure they had space for our two dogs, an eight month old Cock-a-poo and our 1.5 year old Newfoundland bear (ok, he's a dog and gentle like a lamb, but as big as a bear!). The woman on the phone couldn't have been nicer. We had boarded our dogs and cat there once before and had no complaints. She informed me that she would charge us a one night deposit and send us the receipt (never got it, but we didn't care anyway since we would be getting the receipt when we dropped them off and picked them up again).

So I call the the NYC hotel and book a romantic getaway weekend, complete with play tickets (for me!) and Saturday night, football tickets (for my husband!) to complete our weekend.

The morning to drop off the dogs rolls around and my husband takes them to the kennel. The receptionist asks a few questions, including, " Has either one had any surgeries in the last 30 days?" My husband replies that the little one had gotten neutered a few weeks back and stitches taken out. The receptionist she had to inform the manager because it was less than 30 days of the surgery. My husband was informed that our one dog would have to stay in a cage in their "hospital" at an additional charge. My husband had no choice but to agree because we had spent A LOT Of money for our getaway. He signed all papers they required him to sign and walked to his car. He was approached outside by the manager, Kerry, who told him he needed to come back in and sign MORE papers, which he did, including a medical release in case our dog dies, for instance. My husband was leaving again, when the receptionist stated "You don't seem very happy". My husband was annoyed that we were never told about any surgeries pre-requirements and now had to pay more and sign his life away. He said he wasn't happy and left the building. The manager then came running after him and asked him if there was a problem. My husband said he was upset because no one informed us about any surgey 30 day rule to which the manager replied "Look, we are doing YOU a favor by boarding your dogs." "A favor?" my husband asked, " I am paying you a lot of money, even more now. We reserrved this a month ago and now we have a trip we will lose if we can't board the dogs!". Kerry told my husband at this point she wasn't happy taking the dogs so my husband felt by her demeanor, that it was in the best interest of our pets to bring our dogs home.

I have never been so horrified and disgusted by a person's action as this woman's. I manage a business in Greenwich, CT. The clients are not always easy (if you know anything about Greenwich, you know what I mean) and I would never and will never speak to a client in the manner that this person did. I have never seen my husband agitated. So I guess to see him finally upset about something was a unique experience!

I can write this blog because I am sitting home, with what should have been my pre-honeymoon vacation (I also took off work for this as did he). By the way, I tried calling the manager myself and speak to her and I was put into her voice mail. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!
