I recently moved to the area. We took our Yellow Lab in for her annual vet check and they were very nice. Recently our Black Lab came down with an intestinal infection. They were able to diagnosis the problem and he is responding well. Dr. Kern has an excellent bedside manner with the dogs and highly recommend him. We will be seeing him on our regular appointments.

I have been going to countryside vet hospital for over 10 years.I have known dr bruce kerns for over 15 years and i find him to be very compassiontate and caring.I have the utmost confidence in them.Dr. Santee Dr. Micinillio and staff.Yes there are times when you have to wait and although you may not think the compassion is there, think of what they have to deal with daily....If only our pets could talk and tell them whats wrong.Kat Disco

This place is a trap. We brought our dog and the vet could not provide diagnosis after charging us $800+ in 2 hops. Vet does NOT listen but talks rubbish like "your dog is okay". If your pet dies right there they don't seem to care. Fees are higher than elsewhere and yes, they will administer procedures without your consent and then charge you. My advice: run.We just went to a different place and got clear diagnosis in about 20 minutes. We were also explained why the dog had this disease and not the other. Not cheap either but at least real service for the money. Blood test taken couple days after the one in Countryside was quite opposite which made me wonder if Countryside really performed it.

Countryside Veterinary Hospital is good for shots, spay/neuter, and dental, but they do not use the most advanced medicines; they are not the best diagnosticians; the laboratory that they use loses work; they overuse steroids; and if the veterinarian who initially handled your case is not in, you are stuck.

I took a dwarf rabbit to them last winter and they tried to prop him up with steroids rather than use marquis, an equine drug that has been successful treating rabbits with e-cuniculi. I gave the veterinarians a pass on that because I figured that they did not handle a lot of exotics.

This past week, however, I took in a dog who had a decreased appetite. Again, the veterinarian propped him up with a steroid. When I called the next day for the blood results, the vet told me that they had been lost and to bring the dog back to take more blood.

When I called the next day for the results and stressed that I needed definitive answers, the vet in the office said, "This is not my case; you will have to call tomorrow." I found that response to be unprofessional, and at that point, I had the blood work faxed to me and went to another vet where it was established that the dog had a severe infection and needed immediate treatment. "It was good you brought him in tonight," the other vet said. "This was going to snowball."

Again, for routine things, Countryside Veterinary Hospital is okay, but for specialized care, go to South Wilton or Dakota Veterinary Hospital in White Plains, NY.

I've taken my two dogs to this vet several times and have had Dr. Jeffrey Santee and Dr. Jim Micinilio examine them. Dr.Santee is wonderful and really seems to care about and connect with my dogs, but Dr.Micinilio was somewhat rude towards me, wasn't very caring towards my pets and when my older dog needed a shot, he took him out of the room where I couldn't console my dog.
The wait-even if you arrive on time, is a bit too long.
The prices are outrageous. Although Dr. Santee is a great vet, there aren't good enough qualities about this veterinary hospital that would make me stay put.

My first time getting a pet for my daughter my sister in law directed me to Countryside. We took our 2 lb Bichon there for a checkup and I thought she was in the birthing Center at Griffin Hospital, all the staff came out to see the little puppy. Our puppy is not afraid to go for a visit. They all know her. When she was spayed we came to pick her and they were carrying her around like a little baby. She got the best treatment from the staff. I never really had to wait long. You can e-mail questions and they call you back. I would not go anywhere else. I live in Derby (yeah I know, poor dog!) but its worth a trip to White Hills, you get what you pay for. Here you get the best. Doctors and staff.

My bunny chip was very sick. i brought her to a vet in stratford and felt that they were not making a effort to treat her. When i finally got fed up i called countryside. I knew i would like it there the minute i spoke to Jennifer on the phone, she seemed understanding and worried for my rabbits health. she told me that she should be seen right away and to bring her in asap. I had my husband bring her in that day because i had to work. I was told the Dr. saw her right away and kept her for xrays. He called me and updated me as soon as he had any information. When i got home she was back and already eatting! She is having kidney problems but is dealing with it and seems to be no pain or suffering. They have been so caring and friendly they have called to check to see how shes doing. I brought her in yesterday and met them for the first time. They took time to go over her lab results with me, and show me what i can do to prolong her life painlessly. I will recommend this vet to everyone i know. They not only care for the overall health of the animals, they treat them as if they were there own.special thanks to
Dr.Jim

PROS: They care for your pets as if they were there own.

I have been going to Countryside for years for an assortment of pet care. Dogs with rare and unusual health conditions, tooth care, cats with operations - spaying and umbilical hernia, plus all the normal pet care. The Docs are great and care and the staff is helpful and friendly. The place is clean and sweet smelling. Never had to wait unreasonably. I'm sure every place and person can have their off days and back-ups if there are emergencies and such. I would recommend them anytime. I know of patient owners that moved to Oxford but still bring their pets to Countryside in Shelton.

I only went to this veterinary office as they are so close to my home. I find the staff to be average and borderline rude, the wait time is always unbearable. If you make an appointment weeks in advance and it is scheduled for three in the afternoon, than expect to be seen between three thirty and three fourty. The prices are ridiculous.

PROS: One very friendly vet
CONS: The rest of the staff is sub par.
