We went there this Sunday the 21st they the female clerk said we could sit and wait for the waiter to take our order. He never came to our table although we were the only people in the place.I asked the girl to get him she told him and he still never came. One half hour later we left. This place in my opinion has never been great and the only reason I went was my parents were visiting and remembered going there when I was a kid.(my father said the place isn't like it use to be) ya think!!!

Visited Libby's yesterday after a delightful lunch at Pepe's. Well, the girl behind the counter was rude and just not interested in helping us. She had a very bad attitude and it certainly came across. We wanted to sit and eat our desserts (tiramasu, cannoli, lobster tail - pastry filling was stiff/off, crusts were not fresh either) but she said the area was closed until 4pm! Well, there were 4 women sitting there, enjoying their food/drinks but guess we weren't part of the in-crowd. I'll look for another pastry shop in the area that wants my business.

I do not recommend Libby's - their service has gone down considerably and they seem to be riding a reputation earned in the past. That and their proximity to Frank Pepe's (which is wonderful) should mean a great business, but there's a complete lack of pride of ownership - I doubt they've put a dime into the business in 20 years. Another thing they've taken to doing is closing their dining area to customers... I was there on a 96 degree day and they had the dining area roped off - too lazy to clean up after their customers - instead they force them to eat their food out on the curb... and my cannoli was stale.

My mom and I visited Libby's Bakery this past weekend. The italian ice was wonderful! We also got a cannoli and tiramuso. I might have spelt that wrong. Anyways, the tiramuso wasn't good at all. We wanted to try a cookie but the girl behind the counter said its either a quater pound of cookies or nothing so we got nothing. The attitude of this girl was rude and very unwelcoming. She was rolling her eyes at my mother and didn't smile or anything, not once. I think they need friendlier employees if they want to have return customers!! Even though the italian ice was amazing the service made it so that we will never go back!!

I have been to Libby's several times and the pastry is always fresh and fantastic. They fill canoli's fresh daily, all the pastry, pies, cakes, cookies (you name it they make it ) are made fresh every day. The cookies are melt in your mouth good. And when you think there is nothing else they can make, you can order an italian ice made in every flavor imaginable or an authentic italian gelato. What is really great, you can stop by any night, sit and enjoy one of the best cups of espresso while you dig into your favorite desert. I highly reccomend the ice cappucino, a speacialty at Libby's. Libby's is Italian Pastry Shop is an historical part of New Haven and every Family who enjoys GREAT ITALIAN PASTRY!!!!

The italian ice is awesome. Worth the trip. But the pastry is stale. One look at those bins of cookies with old sheets of plastic over the top is a tip off. The canoli are not fresh. The shells are soggy. Great Italian pastry shops only fill canoli shells when you place your order. PAss on the pastry. And this is not a one-time observation. Been that way for decades. I keep hoping it will change, but it doesnt. For better pastry, go to Lucibello's a mile or so away on ?Grand Ave or Qunnipiac.

On Wooster St in New haven, they have a wide variety of gourmet Italian pastries, cakes, etc., home of Liberato Italian Ice. Parking in rear. No checks or credit cards. Go here for dessert after pizza at Pepe's or Sally's!

This is in the heart of New Haven's little Italian neighborhood on Wooster Street, famed for its pizzas. Libby's has great very authentic southern Italian pastries. The sfogliatella and canolli are all outstanding.

When you walk in the smell of powdered sugar and warm pastries waffs towards you. They are amongst the few truly authentic old school italian bakeries left in the Wooster street area. Numerous choices of pastries are fresh and inviting, holiday specialities such as St Josephs bread, etc., are annual favorites. Worth the trip in whenever you are traveling nearby. I brought Libby pastry to a party in the Italian neighborhood of Brooklyn, and everyone thought it was the best italian pastries they had had.
