joyce van lines promises great things. They tell you they have an incredible record - that the price will only go down from the estimate, and that they are an honest company. Well- that is all lies.

First of all they charged me double for my move. The fact that it was a hot day and the men took lot's of breaks doubled my move cost??? I think that is wrong. I supplied lots of food, water and a very a/c cooled home. I found the men hanging out in the basement many times. Later I found a few beer bottles hiding behind some piping. That night I found the box of beer I left out to put into my car- was now filled with empty bottles. The list goes on. About 10 items in total were damaged (a teak patio chair, andirons, indoor basketball set- rather then unscrew the legs- they bent them up and ruined to holes, master bed frame, and many other smaller items.

On top of that- my walls have major gouges in them from where they whacked pieces of furniture into them. My newly done hardwood floors have many scratches from furniture being dragged not lifted and a few very deep scratches and gouges where thins were dropped. Once again- no one told us- and it was hidden by placing objects over and around the damage.

I have never had problems with a mover before. These men were a disaster. I do not recommend paying with a credit card- they will keep finding a way to use it. They also refused to honor the insurance. They paid for nothing- I am out well over $10,000 in repairs.

Please do not use them!

I too had a bad experience with Joyce Van Lines, Inc. My fiance and I moved from CA to SC in April of 2011. The good: They moved most of our stuff without damage. The bad: 1) The delivery date slipped by almost a week from what we were verbally quoted. 2) The packers didn't seem to actually care if certain items broke. For example, they stacked a bunch of clay and ceramic flower pots inside of each other with no padding. (All of these broke.) 3) The packers left a bunch of random items in the house when they were "finished packing." We had to explicitly go through the house and say, "That remote needs to be packed. That towel needs to be packed. That..." It wasn't like we had stuff that didn't need packed so it was not confusing in any way. 4) When our stuff arrived in SC, several items were damaged. Luckily, none of these were terribly dear or expensive. 5) We had a few items that weren't ours delivered with our belongings at our new house. Some other poor customer is undoubtedly missing these things. Too bad we didn't find out until 6 months later. 6) We had a couple of boxes, including that last box of items that we needed to coach them into packing, completely missing. 7) I did not get the weight manifest from the driver before he left, so I called Joyce. They informed me -too quickly- that my stuff weighed more than their estimate. Therefore, I owe the full not-to-exceed price. They did not provide any proof. At this point, I do not believe them. 8) I went to fill out my insurance claim to find that they left me with an "internal form" for claims. This was the only piece of material from Joyce that was provided regarding claims (besides the contract paperwork). After calling several different Joyce offices, I reached someone and they informed me that I need to unpack everything before filing a claim. The estimator had also told me this. I didn't think much of it at the time. A few days later, I received a letter in the mail once again emphasizing that all items needed to be completely unpacked. Furthermore, it laid out a detailed filing process that included descriptions, photos, receipts, purchased values, estimated values, etc. In all of the information, it did not mention anywhere that a deadline was looming for the claim. When I submitted the claim (with all of their requested details), they kindly informed me that they regretted my loss, but they did not receive my claim in time. They did not inform me in any of their literature that they had a deadline. In fact, they went out of their way to make the process difficult while hiding that critical piece of information. I wrote them back letting them know that I felt consciously deceived and they lied to me telling me that they had no way to know when my move was. Take note: My bill of lading number was on the document that they sent me regarding how to file my claim. They knew exactly when my move was. Anyway, this is NOT good customer service and this is not good business. I paid them to lose and destroyed my property. Furthermore, I paid them for insurance that they are not honoring. I do not advise anyone to ever use this moving company. They are sloppy and deceitful. They do not have good customer service. You can choose better than this.

They fraudulently charged my credit card, more than once.
They damaged our funiture, lost several of our belongings.
They damaged the floor in our foyer.
This is absolutley the worst moving company I have ever delt with, and would not recommend using them!

Overall I was very freaked out about finding a good company to move cross country (Chicago to Philadelphia). After weeks of research and reading horror stories, I decided on Joyce. Overall I was very happy with the service. The movers at both ends of the move were very nice, friendly and professional. They did a great job of doing an inventory of our stuff. I worked with June on the phone who was nice and professional. There was one hiccup at the end but they did work with me to get it resolved. They did lose one box but it was returned to us a few weeks later and to be honest I hadn't even noticed until it showed up on our doorstep. Advice: do an extremely thorough inventory yourself and label each box and furniture with labels that have your destination address, name and phone number. Also check moving scam sites like movingscam.com and protectyourmove.gov for more advice. I would probably use Joyce Van Lines again.

Highly advise against using this company. We had a horrendous experience with a cross-country move. They dragged out the actual delivery to the last possible contractually obligated time. Along the way they claimed they would make delivery at various other times, only to have all sorts of excuses. At one point we had to wait up all night for the supposed delivery, but never heard from the driver again until 2 days later. Experienced lots of misrepresentations. They charged my credit card upfront for wrong and excessive fees, so be sure not to pay by credit card!

Also beware that the drivers and movers are not Joyce employees, and Joyce will attempt to deflect all responsibilities (except for charging your credit card).

The company overcharged us for the wrong weight (well over 1,600 pounds in excess) so we had to demand a re-weigh, which was our legal right. Still, we had to fight tooth and nail to get a credit back on the excess amount.

Even worse, the driver Rick Hall was a very dishonest person. He FORGED MY SIGNATURE on a falsified document in an attempt to create additional fees. He blatantly made up false information so Joyce could charge those additional fees, such as 3 city-blocks' long carry (there are cameras at the unloading site to disprove his lie) and disposing of boxes, etc. He also lied about how WE damaged pieces of furniture when he and another mover actually did so. I brought these false statements to Joyce's attention, but they never apologized or formally addressed the shady situation.

I cannot warn enough: save yourself the aggravation and do not use Joyce Van Lines.

Connecticut to Georgia
I must say that Joyce Van Lines was a great company to deal with!! They were careful and on time. They loaded my 3 BR house, 3 cars, and 2 motorcycles on a single truck and everything arrived in perfect condition. They were careful in my home and the walls went unharmed. I would recommend them to anyone.

Connecticut to South Carolina
We were impressed by Joyce Van Lines. When Richard Evans, the driver and his team showed up at our door and got to work, we were put at ease immediately by the unparalleled efficiency and professionalism of everyone loading the truck that day. We didn??t have to worry about anything! It was the smoothest, easiest move we had ever experienced, and we??ve moved a lot! The truck arrived at the new house on the day and time expected, and Richard and his crew unloaded in no time. And to our delight, nothing was damaged, scratched or lost. As promised, Joyce did not surprise us with any extra fees. In fact the final price came in under the quote, and they weren??t looking for ways to make a buck. Such honesty is hard to find in this business. Anyone in the tri-state area looking to move shouldn??t bother with anyone else than Joyce Van Lines. You won??t be disappointed.

Connecticut to Ohio
I just finished an interstate move with Joyce Van Lines. Excellent experience. John (sales) and Dawn (office staff) who organized my move were very professional and helpful. John (driver) and his workers were professional, clean, prompt and friendly, and overall very good. This was our third move of this type and I??d definitely use Joyce again. (25,000 lbs)

Connecticut to West Virginia
From that very first call setting up our move from CT to WV, everything went smoothly. Prices were very competitive, but best and most important, was the professionalism of the team we had to actually move us. When they finished unloading and cleaning up cardboard and such, they offered numerous times to help us with unpacking, putting items back together. Richard Evans II and his group are fine gentlemen, and you??d be quite lucky to have them move you. We were so glad we went with Joyce.

My mother??s possessions are largely antiques she had been collecting for most of her 85 years, so even if I could find a mover in time, I was resigned to having some losses or damage to the many fragile items. I called Joyce and they put me in touch with Bill Adams. I described my situation the best I could and he offered to meet me the next day. Bill was prompt, friendly, and professional, which basically set the tone for the whole experience. He said they could have a crew available on the target date, a few days later, so I signed up. The the final bill was about 20% below the estimate. The guys worked straight through, kept a sense of humor, and were the fastest careful people I ever saw. Everyone treated my mother and me with absolute professionalism and courtesy, which was a critically important requirement. What a relief it was to find not only a good moving company, but also an outstanding one. The people from Joyce were genuinely helpful at every step of the way.

I recently moved from Branford, CT to Stamford, CT with Joyce Van Lines.
I had a good experience overall. On the moving date, the driver arrived with 2 extra men on time and as agreed. All three men were professional and treated my good with care. The move was completed within the six-hour period as stated in the estimate. Overall a good experience, with no hidden costs or surprises. It was nice to work with professionals who know what they were doing.

My husband and I just moved (Griswold Connecticut) with Joyce Van Lines based on my Internet research. We were NOT disappointed in the least, in fact, THEY WERE AWESOME. We could not get over the professionalism of all four movers, and the great leadership skills of JEFF JOHNSON, who coordinated the move with us. Not a single thing was broken or hurt in any way. They took such great lengths to protect all of our possessions that we were truly amazed. You will not go wrong with Joyce Van Lines!!

Connecticut to Rhode Island
I recently moved from Connecticut to Rhode Island with the help of Joyce Van Lines. It was a great experience. I called six moving companies for quotes, and, although Joyce didn't quote the lowest price (nor was it the highest), the price was certainly reasonable. On the moving day, the moving team arrived right on time, and were very professional throughout the move. They were careful with all of my belongings, taking extra time to wrap a glass tabletop and my mattress. They worked very hard and with good humor. After the drive to Rhode Island, they quickly unloaded the truck and put all the boxes exactly where I wanted them. Overall, I was very impressed with Joyce??both the people at the office and the moving crew??and would recommend them to anyone contemplating a move in the northeast.
