I've been to EVERY Italian restaurant in Waterbury and Nino's is, by far, the best. They make their own pasta fresh daily and their own salad dressing (try the parm peppercorn). Sauce is great, pizza is good. I love their Chicken Marsala. I also get their Bruschetta. My husband swears by Cavatelli alla Nino's. He usually substitutes the chicken for sausage. Their penne ala vodka is fantastic as well.
My past few experiences included mediocre food and service and a polite request from my girlfriend that we try somewhere else. Slow service, tasteless food, and a decidedly ?not special? ambiance was not compensated for by their fairly high prices.
However, for the second time in as many months, I found myself with a craving for chicken fettucine alfredo, and despite my better judgment, I again called Nino?s for pickup. The first time the food was bad, but not outrageous. I counted my $18 loss and moved on. And two days ago, my craving returned, despite all logic and past experience.
I called them again for chicken fettucine alfredo. I took it home and really didn?t like it. The pasta was stuck together, the sauce was watery, the salad (read: two rings of onion, a small amount of lettuce and a single cherry tomato) was no good, and the bread roll came with no butter. The whole thing tasted so awful that I didn?t finish it, favoring instead some canned Spaghetti O?s that honestly provided a much more satisfactory dish.
I came in the next day with the uneaten food and and asked to speak with a manager. 20 minutes later, the manager, who was in earshot when I asked to speak to one- found time to talk to me. I politely explained my situation, and they refused to refund me. They said that?s not how they do business there.
Overall, the food there has never been better than mediocre. With a city of options, this is not the place you should choose.
Pros: Located right off the highway and easy to fine.
Cons: Bad service, bad food, and high prices.
