I used to love this place. We have only bought our chinese food from here for the last 5 years- However this was the 4th time in a row that the food was horrible.. Rice was mushy and inedible, and then the lo mein was just as gross... The chicken we bought was hardly cooked.. This has happened too many times now and we will no longer go here.. I spent $50 on take out that day and I wish I could get it back... YUCK- I also heard its new owners and that might be the issue...

We just got home from the Tea House. I wanted to try it after reading the reviews. We usually go to a place in Vernon. Big mistake. We were the only customers there for most of our meal. The hostess/waitress left us sitting for quite some time. Never asked if we wanted drinks or anything. My husband ordered the D3 and I ordered the Crispy Duck, The food was almost inedible - so much salt you could not eat it, and I like salt. The duck was nothing but coating and some duck skin - no meat whatsoever. For a boneless half duck, well it must have been a duck with a major eating disorder. The vegetables and sauce were, yes, so salty I could not eat it no matter how valiantly I tried, as it was my idea to go there. My husband's food looked terrible, and tasted terrible. The portions were miniscule, which in this case was ok. The hostess/waitress never came back to the table, we had to go up to the counter to get her attention. We left most of our meals, and my husband wouldn't let me say why. The best part of the meal was my brown rice which came half way through the meal, if you can call it a meal. I never review anything usually, but decided that I would this time, as it was reviews that made me go there. Not to mention that the table covers were wrinkled like they had been wadded up in a ball. Nothing about the place would ever make me go there again. AND I wasted my Friday out and my money.

I'm going to add my voice to those defending the restaurant. The Chinese food is excellent. I will have to try the Thai to see if I can comment directly to the worst critic here, but I have never had a bad dish. The quality of their ingredients is outstanding. I have never had cooked shrimp so tender. If you want greasy take out or are used to a fast food style of service, this is not for you.

We enjoyed our dinner at the Tea House. The Pad Thai was very good and the General's Tofu with vegetables and rice was great. Dining at the Tea House was a pleasant experience and our waitress was efficient and friendly. The decor was very pleasant and soothing and we enjoyed celebrating our wedding anniversary here. We look forward to returning to the Tea House.

So, I am currently a waitress and a hostess at this restaurant. Reading the reviews below, especially the one from "Tollander" ..... clearly he is extremely mistaken and does not understand the goal of this restaurant. I understand many people have their own opinions on the food, but let's a few things straight here. First, the service is "extremely" slow because the there is usually only one waitress. So, wouldn't you be more considerate and think about how hard it is for the waitress to handle EVERY SINGLE TABLE on her own? of course, we would like to bring fast service, but when people complain about the slow service on the weekends .... no can do guys. there are a million takeouts with the phone ringing every minute alongside with many people that are dining in. There's only so much you can do, thank you very much. If you look with your pretty eyes, the waitress/waitresses want nothing more than to make their customer happy by providing them with anything they want. But no, people complain to their own satisfaction just because. so lame.

As for the Thai dish Mr. Tollander had down there, he clearly doesn't know real Thai food when he comes across from it. Our chef has been rated one of the top chefs across Connecticut and he originally resided in Canton, China, which by the way, is where REAL chinese food originated from. So in insist that people start being more considerate and understanding and realize that Tea House really is the only restaurant in CT that has decent chinese food to say the least.

If you are looking for the best chinese food in Tolland county, then The Tea House is the place for you. The rice is always cooked to perfection and the crab rangoons are uniquely different and quite good. My husband swears they have the best General's chicken around. I have never tried their Thai food, so I cannot comment on it, however the chinese food is Awesome. The only downfall to the Tea House is the service which is extremely slow.

Tea House has a huge menu--they offer several types of Asian cuisine--Chinese, Japanese, Thai, etc. Being the traditional sort, I stick with what I know, Chinese. They have standard prices for the area. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful.Their lunch specials include your choice of tea, they have many to chose from. They also sell bulk teas at the counter.I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a good local Asian restaurant.

I promise you'll leave hungry and I LOVE Asian food. I just couldn't stomach what was served to me at this restaurant. I should have known...when a restaurant claims to cook Thai, Chinese, Japanese, etc. You know the adage, jack of all trades...master of none. I ordered the Thai dish, Thailand's national dish, and it was the worst I've ever had. I stopped after 2 bites and it goes against my grain normally to waste food, but I made an exception here. I won't EVER go back. Disgusting!
