This is an estate built in 1685 that has been converted into an inn and restaurant. The rooms are comfortable, but are more like bedrooms than hotel rooms. It is located right near Foxwoods, about 10 miles down route 2.

The restaurant is terrific. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The servers dress in colonial period dress, and the food is made by a world class chef. Even if you don't stay at the Inn, you should certainly visit the restaurant.

On a side note, William Randall's spirit is said to be seen by unsuspecting guests. My mother and I stayed in room 6, and we had an experience with him! It was frightening, but really cool.

PROS: Unique, filled with history
CONS: small rooms that are quite expensive

Located in an authentic colonial ordinary (that's a tavern!), Randall's Ordinary serves colonial style food prepared by a world-class chef. Servers are dressed in period costume, the decor is absolutely authentic, and if you really like it, you can stay the night in one of their private rooms. Prices are high, but if you have a membership at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum, you can take advantage of a buy-one-get-one-free deal.

PROS: Takes you back to 1690!
CONS: Dirt road -- hard to find.
