DON'T GO TO THIS VETERINARY CLINIC !!!! THEY ARE SWINDLERS!!! I have been going to Ct Vet Specs since 1998. I dropped off our cat in the a.m. for a dental cleaning. I agreed to have any tooth extracted, and 5 were extracted. When I picked up my cat, the bill was $731.00. THAT IS AN UNACCEPTABLE amount. They charged me $400 2 years ago...for my other cat (and she had 8 extractions). They built a new hospital addition last year, so I guess they need to pay for their addition....but NO LONGER with my money. I'm going elsewhere. They didn't even call us to tell us how much anything was going to be. I was under the impression that it woudl be about the same amount as what I was charged 2 years ago. When I went to pay for the bill ... !!!! THEY ARE SWINDLERS!!! I have been going to Ct Vet Specs since 1998. I dropped off our cat in the a.m. for a dental cleaning. RIP OFF, and the service is just ""so, so"". DON'T USE THEM....so somewhere where it is more reasonable and they don't purposefully try to RIP YOU OFF!!!

Dr. Maier is loved and adored by her colleagues and her clients. I have heard this time and again. She is extremely conscientious and knowledgeable. I would trust her with my pets any day of the week.
No one at Vet Specialists charges by the minute or is ever in too much of any hurry to not treat a client's pet like one of their own.

We had been bringing our 2 dogs to this clinic for about 6 years. Each time we got used to a doctor, they would leave. The doctor's seem to be great and experienced. However, customer service is lacking and you are paying for their newly remodeled office. We finally called for our records and transferred our dogs somehere else. One of our dog is on special, prescription diet. We called to order it and never heard back, called back 2 weeks later and they said they would call. Called a month later and I was told I could come in to the office to see if they had it or I could call back. I have a newborn and I do not have time to waste following up with people. I told the person to please take my information and call me back which she rudely did. 2 months later- NEVER HEARD BACK! Our dogs las physical was much more than what we had paid in the past and also the dog food. I got the sense we were paying for their newly remodeled facility. Took them somewhere else who charged me 1/2 less. I compared the bill from Ct Vet Spec to the new vets and it was all for the same procedures

We have been using this practice for 16 years. In all that time we have received nothing but the best and most compassionate care for our dogs. This is for both routine care to extraordinary care. Are they inexpensive - no. Are they overpriced - no. In other words, they are appropriately priced for the care they provide. In fact, they often suggested OTC medications because they would be cheaper and just as effective. They will also suggest you go to a regular pharmacy for a prescription medication if it is cheaper than what they would charge. They are not looking to gouge you.The principals of this group are SPECIALISTS. I have heard of other veterinarians referring to them as the Vets they would take their own pets to. Our own experience shows they don't "cut to the chase" for a quick fix. If they feel a particular treatment will provide for an extended life at a high quality level, they will offer it. They will clearly identify cost and allow you to make the appropriate decision as to what is best for you and your pet. We were fortunate to gain extra years with two of our dogs in particular due to the care we received here. One contracted distemper (yes, she was up on her vaccines - it can happen) and the other lymphoma. In both cases other vets would have simply said to put the dogs down, they didn't have a chance. Dr. Knaack provided a treatment regimen that gave us 3 extra years for the first dog (great years). For the other dog he provided chemotherapy that gave us another year and a half. That dog was going through a second round of chemo and was responding positively. Unfortunately, we lost him due to an unrelated congenital abnormality.A true testament to the care this group provides is the expansion of their facilities in 2008. They tripled the space of the facility (actually it could be more). They now have a MRI facility (you used to have to go to Boston or New York). They also offer Aqua therapy. Frankly, if they weren't top notch providers they never would have been able to build a practice that allowed for this expansion.I have seen some negative reviews and frankly am a bit surprised by the experience. In some cases I believe that some people have unrealistic expectations with the possible outcomes of a treatment. Complications can arise. That is more likely if people don't pay particular attention to the prescribed follow-up care. Post-op infections can happen and they are not easy to deal with.My bigger concern is when someone complains and it is evident that they neglected their own pet in the first place. Dental care is just as important for a pet as it is for people. If you bring your cat to a vet and it they say teeth need to be extracted, that means you ignored the situation for way too long. Also, $300 for that level of care is CHEAP (anesthesia is required). Try going to your own dentist and see what you get for that price. Bottom line, it's less expensive in the long run if you take care of your pets all along. It also keeps them with you longer.I have nothing but the highest praise for this group of professionals and all those associated with his practice.

I worked here for some months and I also bring my own pets here.
I adopted a cat from here also.

They care about what they are doing and do there best to treat each animal as there own.

I was looking for an alternate vet for my aging dog that was closer to home. After reading the two glowing reviews here I decided to check this vet clinic out. Very nice, decent people, knowledgeable and seemed to genuinely care for my dog. I was pleased by the quick appointments, the low wait time and the knowledge of the vet. Up front about costs and alternate medications, and well informed. I plan on making this my main vet. This was just after one visit, but I was switching vets from a place I held in high regard and I was put at ease by the staff here. Good experience.

PROS: well informed knowledgeable staff
CONS: mark-up on common OTC treatments (but to be expected from a vet)

I used to take my pets there a few years ago. A great place I must say. They really set a standard of pet care and stick to it. I unfortunately had to have a surgery done on my 10 year old dog and they set my mind at ease, I knew everything that was going on, all the risks involved, and everything went smoothly. I use another service now but that has no reflection on the quality of service and friendly atmosphere of this place.
A really top notch place

PROS: excellent Pet care
CONS: none

We've been using this vet office for over 15 years and with good reason. The care they give is superb, and the vets are excellent. They are always willing to talk at length about the pros and cons of various treatment options without sugar-coating anyhting. They frequenty call after hours to check in or give updates. Highly recommended.
