Yesterday on messenger the owner of Snowflake (Bob M) sends me personally a link which is blasting the owner of the parrot, without any regard for his own reputation and how people might interpret this action. Appears to me that he is desperate. (Now BBB rated F) Bottom line is the bird was in your custody. Do not redirect guilt. He is not with you. Due to your negligence he was either stolen, sold, or God forbid, died in your care. Not missing. Take the responsibility. Tell the truth. Pls feel free to provide input here on this medium. We are all curious to hear your view.
This is to advise and protect any other pet owners from a similar situation. Nightmare. If you do or did use this establishments services and were satisfied, you were one of the luckier ones. There is an owner unable to take home her pet parrot due to the establishments negligence and I truly believe they are accountable and responsible. He doesn't fly and didn't just walk out their doors.
I am a (concerned) parrot owner too and dissappointed about the loss (misplacement) of a clients parrot while left in their establishment for care. This could have been anyone.
I do not know the client personally but our special bond as parrot owners has driven me to write this book/review.
Concerning the type of care and business they represent, they failed to protect and safeguard her parrot. Are they expeditiously assisting the client In the location of their beloved pet? Being cooperative and respectful with the owner. It is evident as it has been over 66 days and the client is still waiting and wondering without answers. To have misplaced a pet is one thing, responsibility and attitude is another. This establishment must take the appropriate action in accounting for the loss and expedite locating the missing parrot. Many others in the bird/parrot community are effected/pained by this horrible event.

I am so grateful for the friend that recommended this place to us. I am a new pet owner and they made me feel very comfortable on how to care for my dog properly. They were not pushy like other vet hospitals in Milford. I am extremely happy with the service I received. I have also used there boarding and grooming. The grooming does a great job and has been grooming for a long time. My dog came home from boarding a HAPPY dog! I would recommend this place to everyone! The best part is, it is a family business so they actually care A LOT about what they do.

This place is a joke! Do not go there. Nobody shows any compassion at all. It's a money mill they just talk at u and not to you. Exercising minimal compassion if any at all! To make a long story short....THIS PLACE SUCKS ! I believe they they killed my brother's cat. They never gave him any instruction on anything. This place blows goats.... and im calling the Vetinary board of the state of CT...to inform them of their incompetence!!!

Interesting thread between dr. and pet owner. It seems pretty clear that if the doctor knew from past records that there is a dental concern that that would have been the first place to check during the exam. Found this exchange while searching for a new clinic for my dog...i guess i'll pass on Snowflake.

Dear Dr......you should know that my dog didn't even have an ear infection afterall and if you had thoroughly examined her you'd know that! It ended up to be a very bad abscessed tooth which was causing the severe pain on the whole side of her face AND in her ear! This was found out at a different vet's office in 5 minutes.
And never once was I rude to you or anyone in your establishment. My dog went totally deaf in one afternoon and to say the least I was upset and wanted help. It's been 3 weeks and her hearing has not yet come back. The medication specifically says on the Merck web site that it can cause temporary to permanent deafness in geriatric dogs and my dog being older well I guess that she fits in that catagory. Therefore I feel that I should have been told about the possible side effect seeing that it's a huge one. My dog had acute hearing right up until that afternoon. You or no one in your office showed compassion.
How is it that you didn't see the abscess but another vet did?
And to Joanne who said I'm incredibly ignorant.....feel free to say what you will about me. I think it's sad that you can make fun of using the Mometamax in your last sentence when I'm sitting here with a deaf dog. You may want to do some research and find out how many thousands of dogs have been affected by this drug and how heartbreaking it is to feel that you have done this to your own pet. People should be warned of the possibility of deafness before the drops are administered.....bottom line. Even Dr. Richardson of Merck agreed with me. She said that if a geriatric dog is being treated the owner should be told of the possible side effects.
And my poor dog didn't even have an ear infection!!

It does bewilder us all that a veterinarian with 11 years of experience would harm her patients. Did we ever stop to consider how many thousands of pets benefit from said drug? How many times this doctor has cured painful infections in both young and old? How it would be in her best interest to heal her patients? Adverse drug reactions are an unfortunate but unavoidable reality and there should be no hesitation from veterinarians and physicians alike to stop using medications because risks exist. In human medicine it is reported that over 600,000 cases of adverse drug reactions, including death, occur every year. The use of drugs continues despite this because benefits greatly outweigh the risks.
Instead of lashing out against your veterinarian why not schedule a consult so that together you could help your pet. In this particular patient there was not only an ear infection but also a bad tooth. If the recommendation for a dental would have been followed the tooth problem would have likely been found. Furthermore it is important to note that owner was warned of dental disease back in June 2010. I am sure your veterinarian would have been eager to alleviate your pets suffering if you would not have been so rude and accusative. I would know...given I AM that veterinarian.
I was tempted to ignore this comment, but frankly I am tired of the few clients that have an unfortunate experience with their pets and are so quick to blame us veterinarians. If we did not love what we do, believe me, we would be earning more money in another career. We are intelligent professionals who have sacrificed a lot of time and a lot of money in order to help pets. I refuse to accept these accusations.

My pets and I have been going to Snowflake for many years and I agree with the person who said that in the past they were good. Never had any problems with the service and they were reasonably priced. But things sure have changed.
I brought my older dog there for a minor ear infection and the medication which is called Mometamax (ear drops) caused her to go totally deaf from one dose. I called the Merck Co. about Mometamax and they said that yes the drugs side effect is that it may sometimes cause temporary to permanent hearing loss and deafness. That's a MAJOR side effect!!
I was never warned that this might happen. If I had known the possibility I never would have allowed it to be applied to her ears.
It's been almost two weeks and my poor dog is only slightly better.
The vet Dr. LaRoche never once called me to see how my dog was doing or anything. The lack of concern was shocking especially since I've been going there for so long.
Please be careful.....gentimicin which is in Mometamax and other ear drops "may" cause deafness and sometimes it is not reversable.
I will never recommend Dr. LaRoche to anyone.

snowflake has had a rotation of veterinarians the past few years, some good and some bad. this unfortunatly is the reason for these negative reviews. as of 2011, snowflake has one fulltime vet, dr laroche who is very thorough and explains to you all of your options, not just the options that will make the most money. and dr bashkin is a part time vet, who has been there for many years. both of the veterinarians are very nice and knowledgable, as well as the staff. you feel very welcomed and the staff gets to know you on a more personal level, making both your pet and yourself more comfortable. i strongly recommend this clinic.

I've read many of the other reviews and was surprised at the older negative reviews. I have never boarded any of my pets there. I do have my two Doberman's and my cat vetted there and Dr. LaRoche is EXTREMELY thorough, caring, and DOES NOT treat without discussing prices with me. The vet tech is also wonderful. She's so good with my dogs that they want to leave with her when she steps out. I've only been there a short time, but I HIGHLY recommend Dr. LaRoche as a vet!!!!

We thought the boarding was ok, we have used them twice. But when we tried to transfer to the vet there, we were shocked at how incompetent the office and vet was. They lost the meds for my dog and then insisted on another vet appointment before refilling them, even though the next appt. is not due until March 2011. We will not go back.

I'm not sure any Boarding Center can have a perfect record. I've been in the CT / NYC area for 10 years and have traveled from NYC to Snowflake with all my dogs and cats. The vet is kind and friendly and explains everything he is doing. I've never been charged with services I did not ask for and have yet to have a single medical issue with any of my dogs (even my 17yo border collie who has now passed on). They take amazing care of all my animals and the groomer is A+ as long as you CLEARLY COMMUNICATE your wishes. I've never had 1 issue with Snowflake in 10 years and the additional services they offer are a huge + (and priced very CHEAP). It's not the Ritz Carlton of boarding but it's not the Motel 6 either.

I have always had a positive experience with the staff, who is very friendly and caring. The owners personally know my dogs and are also very caring. Prices are reasonable. I would recommend them to anyone with a pet who is looking for a caring environment with great vets.

I have a Persian cat I've been bringing to Snowflake for many years. They are professional, caring, and attentive. I've had my long-haired cat shaved there many times as my cats hair is fine and knots easily even with frequent brushing & grooming done on my own. The groomer there explained to me it's very painful for the cats to have big knots brushed out. I must say I think she prefers the short haircut although I hold off until the warmer months. The boarding has always gone well for weekends I'm away. She seems to enjoy "Kitty Camp" and she's always comes back happy, clean, and well fed. I would recommend this place to any friend. It's easy to get to and I trust them with my baby.

I've had my long-haired cat shaved there many times as my cats hair is fine and knots easily even with frequent brushing & grooming done on my own. The groomer there explained to me it's very painful for the cats to have big knots brushed out. I must say I think she prefers the short haircut although I hold off until the warmer months. The boarding has always gone well for weekends I'm away. She seems to enjoy "Kitty Camp" and she's always comes back happy, clean, and well fed. I would recommend this place to any friend. It's easy to get to and I trust them with my baby.

whoever posted the comment on the senior dogs is crazy. i can tell you first hand that they take great care of kennel dogs. senior dogs and dogs with medical problems get extra attention. if they have serious medical problems or are very old, they board in the hospital kennel so that the medical staff can keep a watchful eye on them. i've also been told that the medical staff walks through the kennel several times a day to overlook all the dogs and make sure there are no problems. there is no way that boarding in a kennel would make your dog go into kidney failure, the dog was 17! the empoloyee probably did not yell at her about the food, i'm sure they told her that she should bring her own food, because an abrubt change in food can cause diarhea. they are one of the only kennels around that have a full time vet on duty. i would not board my senior dog anywhere else

I have used this kennel a number of times and I would say that the service is good. I have a dog that is aggressive and has a couple of medical issues and he does very well here. The staff is decent and I honestly have no huge complaints about them. I used to board my dog in Norwalk at his vets who he loves, but living in Stratford, the convience factor of snowflake makes it a good choice for me. I wish they had longer hours on Sunday because it is a mad house when you go pick up your pet and expect to wait, but other than that I would recommend them. I have not used them for any other services though, strictly boarding.

They don't ask for authorization for procedures and charge you for them. Which is bad Customer Service. YOU are forced to pay for them. And they did nothing to improve my dogs condition. The doctor is not very nice and does not talk to you--I felt he did NOT care of my concerns. They used to be very good about 5 years ago but since they changed doctors the service and quality suffered greatly. I recommend to go to another place--cheap is the quality of service not the prices. Because my care was expensive, charges unauthorized and the dog was never treated correctly per another vet!!!

I recommend to go to another place--cheap is the quality of service not the prices. Because my care was expensive, charges unauthorized and the dog was never treated correctly per another vet!!!

First, I never criticize a business, but will this time. Do not use this place for grooming. The woman last August with the shaved cat was right, and they did the same thing to my Golden retriever. Shaved him when we requested to just shave his underbelly.

You'd think shaving a golden would sent off an alarm bell and they might make a call to be sure? No way. And they are unapologetic after the fact, claiming we told them to shave. The problem is the desk staff is incompetent and they don't listen. We even wrote down what we wanted on paper and it was likely thrown away.

I also would believe the kennel horror stories on this board. Don't bring your pets here. Find someplace that cares. I can't imagine what they do to they pets the board. STAY AWAY!!

i brought my new puppy to snowflake for her first vet visit. this is my first dog and didn't know anything, and the receptionist cheryl was very helpful. the technicians mikala and eileen explained everything i could possibly need to know about raising a puppy. they were patient with how little i knew and they explained everything so i could understand. the vet was very nice too and they all treated my puppy with love. i trust the staff to care for my dog and recommend them to anyone with pets.

I bought advantix at the recommendation of Snowflake Pet Center employee. I was told it was better than Frontline which I used for years. I paid good money for it but was picking ticks off my dog for the next 3 weeks. I called to ask for a refund and was told no. In my opinion thats bad business. This type of behavior is almost expected by large corporations...which is why when my pet was ill I took him to a small clinic. I will never return and suggest that no one start up a file with this unorganized and unfriendly clinic.

We have come to trust Snowflake's pet advice. If they don't know something, they will find out for you.. They have been boarding our dog for several years now without a problem. She returns home happy and clean..They have even performed minor surgery on her with complete success..Service is good. Staff is very nice..

Once again my two dogs didn't want to come home. They enjoyed their playtime during their vacation stay, they visited the grooming salon and they also came home with a clean bill of health. Having the veterinarian do their yearly physcial while they boarded there is a great service along with getting a bath and haircut before coming home. Now that the dogs are taken care of, now I can concentrate on getting the kids back to school. Thanks once again to Snowflake you certainly made our vacation enjoyable again this summer!! Since the dogs been home she hasn't been herself. She has become afraid of other dogs, she used to be the most playful dog in the neighborhood. I guess it could be normal for the dog to act a little differently after a change in ruitine for awhile, but it was a turnoff that the staff was so unfriendly. I know that I'll never be bringing our dog there again, and I wouldn't recommend their services to anyone.

I brought my dog in for a couple days when I went on a trip with my mom. When we returned a few days later, we picked up my dog, and he had this weird mucus like stuff in his eye. The people there didn't even have anything to say about it, and they didnt take that concern to the vet. We ended up taking my dog to an eye doctor, and that resulted in his eye having to be removed. If they had acted and helped my dog, maybe his eye could have been saved.

I took my beautiful, long-haired cat to this groomer with specific instructions to give her just a hygienic shaving. Instead, the groomer shaved my ENTIRE cat!!! Please, learn from my mistake and do not take your animals there. Their groomers do not listen to instructions, nor do they utilize your cell number to reach you if they forget what you wanted done with your pet. If they did this when they only had my cat for a day, I hate to see how they care for the animals they board.

I have used both the hospital and boarding, everyone is very welcoming with smiling faces, and very knowledgeable. The vet there is very friendly and confident, wonderful with my cat and dog.

Then second visit was for boarding, I felt comfortable leaving the my pets behind. I signed my dog up for playtime, which he loved they even gave me a picture of him playing.

I recommed Snowflake to everyone I know with pets!!

I am a new customer due to a recommendation from a friend and I have only utilized their vet services. The vet was a little odd and sort of made me feel uncomfortable. I waited for quite a while even though I was on time to my appointment. Prices do seem very reasonable. I will go back but only because it is less expensive and I do believe this guy knows what he is doing, he just is better with animals than people, I think. It could be worse...

My aubt used to go there for years and thenwhen her cat got sick. he told her he was too busy and told her to find a different place. I couldnt believe it. If I didnt hear it with my own ears I would believe it.I called for her and then she called him again. Not very professional. we did take it somewhere else and it all worked out

We used snowflake kennel to board our cat while we were out of town. They seemed to take good care of her and asked us about special instructions, etc before we left. The place appeared clean and the staff was nice. Unfortunately its hard to rate because you dont see what really happens.

Each dog after grooming gets a little scarf and they use good smelling shampoo and don't miss any spots. The cost is moderate but better than doing it yourself. Boarding isn't exactly bargain priced but they dogs are well taken care of.
