A Dong Supermarket has an exensive supply of Asian Food, kitchen equipment and utensils and even ornaments etc. It is located on Shield Street clost to New Britain Avenue where Ames used to be. I love this store because of the massive sellection odf Asian Foods that are hard to get elsewhere. Foods like Daikon, Leeches, ducks, Jasmine rice, all types of noodles and many more. The prices are quite resonable too.

PROS: A Wide Sellection Of Asian Food
CONS:

It has a Vietnamese name, but if you're after southeast asian food from Viet Nam, Korea, China, Japan, or the Philippines, this is the first place to check. Dozens of kinds of rice noodles, a dozen brands of soy sauce, other sauces, fresh fish, specialty meats, and all sorts of other things crop up. Some are staples, while some are grab-it-when-you-see-it. The store carries all sorts of frozen foods, the biggest bags of rice you could ever need, and all sorts of asian kitchenalia. If you want bouillion cubes for duck soup, they probably have them. Want those ceramic soup spoons the restaurants use? They have multiple patterns. Need specialized cooking tools? They're here. They also sometimes have seeds for asian produce that either doesn't ship well, or people just like growing. The prices on the fresh vegetables are great - often better than the chain markets. Fresher too.

The bakery offers asian treats, and precooked meats if you're in a hurry. The sandwiches made vietnamese-style are popular too. They have chinese sausages and frozen soy milk. And yes, Durian ice cream. (If you don't know what that is, it's a southeast asian fruit that is either incredibly good or incredibly bad. Reactions go both ways.)

The drawbacks to this place are the labels. Most have English ingredient labels pasted on. Some have English instructions, but they don't always make sense. There are also lots of products loaded with MSG. If you're sensitive, watch out.

PROS: Huge Selection,
CONS: Not for the unadventurous
