Haven't been to the YRI, for a few years due to the many changes in ownership, and reviews I was hearing from friends...But two weeks ago, we decided to try it again, as it is under new management/ownership & we've been hearing positive things. We also had a friend who was performing there with an Improv Group: Comedy on Demand.
We were very pleased over all. The four of us were very happy with our entrees. I had a seafood pie that was outstanding. Most of our meals came with the salad bar, which was fresh with a lot of variety.

The costs of each meal was very reasonable and the proportions were ample...I had to take some of mine home.

Due to the fact that lots of people were there around the same time for dinner, to see the Improv Group afterwards, the server could have been a bit more involved...We did learn that one employee had called out at the last minute, it was evident they needed a 3rd person for a packed restaurant. But they did explain the situation & were pleasant.

We had a drink at the bar after the show, which was after 10PM. I was a bit surprised to receive my Irish Coffee w/o any whipped cream & the bartender who was serving & making the drinks, seeing my surprise, said she could add the whipped cream, if I wanted it. I declined as I felt she should have asked me first, and I felt she really didn't want to have to bother.

We will go back, mainly because of how great the food was and the excellent prices.

Went to lunch there on Tues with 5 friends. The flies in this place were terrible. They were landing in our food and swarming us. The place stunck of sewage. The prime rib was not prime rib, but sliced roast beef rolled. The hamburger was dry. When we complained about the flies our waiter just said he killed 18 of them yesterday. This used to be a great place to eat. Not now.

I know what your thinking, Five stars! this guy must be on the payroll or he's just plain crazy! Neither. Its not a high end five star restaurant, but what the heck, these people (The Newest New owners) pulled out all the stops and deserve a break and a fair chance The place has been completely redone inside and out, nice tile floors, wainscot half walls, updated bathrooms, all new furnishings, and no more ugly plaid carpeting.
The wife and I went tonight for dinner (St.Patrick's Day). The staff was upbeat, friendly & attentive. The service was fast & accurate. The food was great! I had the fish & chips that was perfect and a cream of potato soup that they should add to the menu as a regular item. I also had the salad bar which was fresh, full & a great deal for the money. The Mrs. had French onion soup and a chicken parm that she raved about. The portions were more than fair in size. The wait was nonexistent and the prices were right on the mark for a nice family style place. Dinner for two with a drink each, apps, dessert and coffee ran me $50.00 before the tip.
So to be fair, I give the place a solid for stars for the meal, service and price, and they get an extra star for putting everything they could into saving a great little family restaurant were you can take the wife (and next time the kids) and get a very nice meal at a more then reasonable price. Thank you and we'll be back again.

I frequented the Yantic River Inn. Due to new management, we decided to return to what is now the "Rose City Restaurant and Sports Bar." When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly (female) bartender. She told us to "sit anywhere we'd like and someone would be with us shortly." We sat in the dining area and were joined by an equally friendly waiter. He informed us of the day's specials and gave us time to look over our menus. Our orders were placed. Our food was served to order and hot. We were happy with quality and presentation of our dinners. While eating, we saw and overheard an older, heavy, woman with glasses (I assume is an employee because she knew all other employees by name) complaining and carrying on about something she found bothersome. I swear, I saw that very woman working there while it was the Yantic River Inn. She was carrying on to the bartender and our waiter. They seemed just as annoyed by her as we did. As paying customers, listening to whiney employees is the last thing we wanted to hear. We were happy with our service and food. That older woman, (who was an employee) put a huge dent in the happy, welcoming, atmosphere that the other employees had created for us. On our way out, I saw that woman at the bar filling popcorn baskets. She was using her bare hand to shift popcorn into a scoop and dump the scoop into the baskets. This woman obviously lacks professionalism, manners, self-control, and food handling skills. Seems to be a HUGE liability. Is she really worth keeping? Yantic River Inn went under. I hope you don't. We were happy with everything except her.

this little hole in the wall seemed to be a nice quiet spot to get some lunch. upon entering the so called "restuarant", the juke box was blasting. we were greeted by a waitress who was on the phone behind the bar and she told us "have a seat anywhere, someone will be with you shortly". we waited about 15 mins before i walked to the bar to order us some drinks. it then took a waitress about another 20 mins to take our order. the girl looked very young n spoke even younger. my friend figured she would ask the girl old she was and she said "im 10, but i'll be 11 in july!" she was very polite but isn't that against the law? that same little girl was answering the phone behind the bar as well. we ordered another round of drinks and wrapped that experience up. this place was one of the most unprofessional settings i have ever layed eyes on, besides the fact they dont abide by child labor laws absolutley a waste of time. they should be reported

I read an article about this place reopening. I was optomistic. I tried twice for Sunday brunch (breakfast really). Both times were really disappointing. The order was messed up each time and the food was iffy. Add to that bad service

Just say no. Keep driving. Do not stop.

1. Owner should stick to running gas stations. Appears to be highly inept at managing a restaurant, it's vendors, and most importantly, it's employees.
2. High personnel turnover. Multiple chefs / waitresses / bartenders since "Grand" re-opening approximately one year ago.
3. Food is never cooked the same way twice. No consistency in meal prep. (Due to multiple chef turnover / menu re-invention, etc.)
4. Stopped by on a Sunday morning once for breakfast, supposedly during open business hours, to find the doors locked and nobody home.
5. On multiple occasions during January 2011, owners leaving heat turned down or off. Employees instructed not to touch thermostats. People freezing throughout bar & restaurant.
6. There is some sort of a plumbing problem in the vicinity of the bar (probably with a drain trap, or lack thereof). This problem manifests itself in the form of a septic/sewage odor permeating the air on the bar side of the restaurant.
7. Modern Point of Sale system in place, yet bartenders appear to be completing transactions using funds (their own?) out of a jar. Please explain???
8. I gave this place a fair shot over the course of several months. Ate here on several occasions. Patronized the happy hour somewhat regularly. This review is not the result of a single visit or casual first impression. I spent a lot of money here, trying to support a new local business.

With that, I can only recommend that you do not spend your money in this establishment until:

1. The business has a new owner.
2. The business changes it's name. (The YRI brand has been permanently tainted in my opinion.)
3. A complete and thorough renovation may be needed to ensure that one does not have to smell the stink of sewage as they eat their meal or drink their beer.

you didnt quit you were fired after stealing money and drinking on the job(which was quite hilarous i might add). Although the owner may not be competent or the best boss you still managed to dig your own hole. being pissed about getting fired doesnt do any justice to anyone. As far as a review- the food and service are coming along after this place was terrible before. the new chef seems to have an idea of how to create a decent menu selection with good food which has been a good addition compared to the past. Drinks and drafts are cheap so im happy. Overall not a bad place to go but could still use some work.

Wow. I just quit my job at The Yantic River Inn, as Diningroom and Banquet Manager. The owner, Sita Ram, (Ravi) is entirely to blame for everything that is wrong with this former "hot spot" He doesn't care to the point that he has the chef and in the past, myself, paying the bills and food cost. He has refused to pay front of house help for months. He makes the chef cook alone, to the demands of the diningroon and bar, which forces our guests to wait. He is now under investigation by the labor department and when all is said and done, I hope the penalty disrupts his life, the way he has upset the lives of his employees. Some of us worked 70 plus hours a week for this man, and didnt get a dime. We lived off tips. You can imagine how it's been with no business. Eating at this restaurant is enabling this tyrant of a business owner to take advantage of those who are dedicated and need a job, while he sits pretty in his half million dollar house, driving his brand new car, benefiting from our hard work and labor, that he refuses to pay us for. He has one waitress and one bartender left. Everyone else quit, including me. Put him out of business!!!!

I have tried this restaurant many times. The first time we went, we waited over an hour and never got our lunch. We ordered the portabello mushroom sandwich and a hamburger. A couple next to us ordered the same thing, and theirs came out cold, not to mention the cook was being cussed out by the owner on the way in the door. The second time we tried it, my friend had his bread taken away from him before he was finished even though it was cheese bread that was paid for by me, and I didn't catch that it was being removed in time to stop the waitress from doing so. Another friend on the third try had the beef tips and said they were inedible. A friend has told me that she tried to go for breakfast and the doors were shut. So has the inn been closed and now I won't have to pay for food that is below par. Does anyone know for sure?

First of all the place stunk and was cold at 5 P.M. on a Saturday night.
They didn't have what we ordered and lied about getting it to us.
The "homemade" lasagna was by far the worst that I've ever had-as I told the waitress, "it tastes like hamburger helper-at least put some tomato sauce on it some time!"
My wife had the stuffed sole and couldn't eat much before she got sick.
We won't be back there-go across the street to Illiano's

My husband hobbled in there with me yesterday We stood in the doorway for several minutes, being ignored. Someone walked by and thrust menus into our hands with the less than gracious greeting , "find a seat someplace." We did. We sat for 15 minutes, again being ignored. So we left, and will not return.

Tried this place and i'm being nice, twice one the first week it reopened in April and May 31st. I had fish & chips the first time, it needed to be cook more. This past monday I had sirloin tips, looked & tasted like a can of Franco American in a can. About 8-10 1/2" pieces of chewy beef I think. Also both of these meals I needed the toilet, yes Diarrhea! I will not return...........This Place will not make it.

My wife & I have been several times & overall it was good. Highly recommend the pasta pavorotti. 1st week they were punished because hey, it was popular back in the day. They have some challenges they will work out over time (including the decor) but let`s give the new owners some major local support for opening up especially in this economy. People need jobs & people need to eat out to keep the economic engine churning. SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS!!!

We went there on May 9th 2010 for Mother's Day. It has reopened under new ownership. First, I called in a reservation and was told they would take my reservation, but when I got there I found out that the reservations were not being honored. Whomever had taken them was not supposed to. So, we waited from 10 to 11 to get seated. Then, they took our order and 45 minutes later, still had not received our food. We asked how much longer and they still did not know. The kitchen was backed up and couldn't handle the crowd. The building looked nice inside and had alot of promise, under the right management. The manager was not very courteous and we ended up leaving an hour and 45 minutes after getting there without our food on Mother's Day. It ruined our morning and our plans since we had two sets of parents to visit that day. I was told by another customer that had also been waiting as long as we were that they had been there on another day and the breakfast was excellent. It is a shame that the management was so awful, because I might have given them the benefit of the doubt for EXTREMELY POOR planning and try then another time, but now I am almost positive that we won't be returning there!!!

Just opened & owner has no experience, lots of kinks to work out. Menu items overpriced for a place with paper napkins, wood veneer tables, booths & horrible decor - felt like VFW. Waiter was friendly, errors made weren't his fault - kitchen issues with timing. Scampi had loads of tiny shrimp & bay scallops, rather than a few large shrimp & sea scallops for $19.

previous review must be an old post, because I stopped by the other day 3/26/10 and has new owners and is being totally renovated with an opening in mid April according to the workers that were there. the new chef showed me a sample menu which include lots of seafood and steaks, looks good and can't wait to go back to an old Norwich landmark with some scratch cooking and salad bar.

The help was bad. It sounded like there was an auction. The help couldn't remember the orders and was just screaming out "who had".

The food was bad as well. I had to dump water out of my pasta.
