As of 2018, The West Hartford Puppy Center is no longer available, possibly that the owner(s) of the shop retired their business or have moved. I have been to this store several times during my early pre-teen/teen years, so this shop has been around for quite some time.

The store is spacious(the shop moved to another unit next-door in the same strip-mall than its original location in 2015) and glass enclosers are available where puppies can be seen with fresh shredded white paper to lay in and food and water available at all times. I happily purchased a pure-breed Corgi from the store whom I AKC certified and was available at an amazing value compared to the other dogs (mostly designer dogs) that were $1,2000 and up.

There have been 2-3 false reviews written by some folk here with an agenda, such as this person https://www.facebook.com/pages/Puppy-Center-And-Aquarium/269295066510798 and others. First and foremost, these individuals are not telling the truth and should NOT be reviewing any stores. Many of them have claimed either the store is dirty or unkept, which is also untrue and has been debunked with 4 other reviewers who have also stated the glass enclosers and cleanliness of the environment. If you look at their profiles, you will see things such as "STOP PUPPY MILLS" and "SUPPORT SHELTERS" spewed all over their rotten pages.

Not only have they endorsed false advertisement, but its clear their attempt to slander these animal stores is based on the repetative idealogy of where and what consumers, with their own money, should buy, because if not, we'll "guilt trip" you into doing so oh your a bad person, etc. I find this completely ridiculous and folks like this are more about emotional manipulation and unrealiable resources, since their making shelters (most of them being kill-shelters) look as the only "alternative" and anything else results in dog deaths. In other words, you make false and innacurate reviews and lie just to entice people to run off and buy a mutt at your local shelter, with whatever mental, disease, and dietary problems the dogs have. On the other hand, who knows if these people work there or are volunteers looking to bring in more $$$ to these places. It's obvious they have an agenda, and just like a JW knocking on your doorstep, their another form of human nuisance.

These type of people are also usually nut-cases, and value the lives of animals MORE-SO than human babies and worship cats and dogs.

The second, as with the "reviewer" above is their agenda about Puppy Mills and how the puppies are from Montana, where the mills are from and that you should buy a shelter unknown breed of dog because pathos feelings.

The "mills" that these individual claims are actually breeders. These breeders have taken care of the dogs obviously, considering how healthy the puppies were in the store and all their shots were up-to-date. If there were any issues, they were corrected by veternarians. I have researched these breeders fully, and have found very little to no issues with them other than the blown-up claims by false reviewers such as "Kat Suytherlind" which one of their reasons for their phony review was " I downgraded your facility because you were still selling puppies when I made my post initially". You can see this on their facebook page link above.

Clearly, if you can't comphrend that a store that has the name "Puppy" in it will be selling puppies, you shouldn't be writing reviews, period.

These people are liars and you will not encounter scams or sick animals at this location. There is also vey little-to-no smell other than a light puppy odor that is common in animal-selling shops. No different than scam-artists.

I have purchased my animal and have not regretted to this day. Thank you West Hartford Puppy Center, for the opportunity of having the dream breed I always wanted. I am a proud owner of a very happy dog that even the vets I bring him to comment on how handsome and mild-tempered my dog is, on contrast to the derranged "SAVE DA PUPPIES" idiots.

Very expensive place to shop i went in to buy a 1 liter bottle of Kick -Ich for $41.98 not knowing any better i bought it. On my way home i stopped in Wetherfield at another pet shop and the same bottle was selling for $28.99 don't get me wrong i m all for a profit. If money is no issue this would be a good place to shop.

These puppies are WAY overpriced - you can find each exact dog at a breeder in New England for 300-600 dollars, this store is asking 1000-2000 per puppy! These puppies are all from Wisconsin and Montana - a.k.a. the two most well-known states for puppy mills. PLEASE do not purchase a puppy from this store! Visit stoppuppymills website, and do your research before stopping here! Also - visit Yahoo's message board and read the tragic reviews of ALL the sick puppies sold from there.

Pros: organized store

Cons: unhealthy conditions, too many puppies together

This store is clean and well organized. Everything is in place and all aisles are passable.
The staff is caring and eager to assist. This store has the largest amount of fish for sale that I have ever seen under one roof. The selection of fresh water fish is unbelievable.
The puppies are well cared for. They are kept in glass enclosures and grouped according to size. Water and food is provided at all times. You can interact with them one at a time in a visiting area.
The comment made about it being disgusting and no help available is untrue.
I highly recommend this shop.

They just redid the store. It smells better than it did. The have large, glass-encased enclosures for the puppies/babies, and they are grouped with other similar sized babies. Very friendly staff will allow you to play with the puppies in their visiting rooms. Puppies are clean and well-cared for.

I bought my budgie there today. I've spent the week looking at their birds, and have become a regular face--visiting the store once or twice daily. My bird is adjusting as any untamed budgie would. He's a beautiful bird, and understand that this store's pets come from breeders.

As the store is in the process of a needed remodeling, I would like to see MORE ROOM for the birds and other animals. Also, fish tanks could use more cleaning. I'm not a fish person, but thought most tanks were grimy. It's also a shame that the birds are on an all seed and millet diet, but I think I'll be very happy with my new companion from this store.

First of all the Puppy Center and Aquarium outside has been fully refaced along with the whole strip mall. They now have a nice big sign and spacious parking lot with easy access from the road. Inside they look as though they are currently renovating. They have a huge selection of fresh water fish and large selection of salt water fish, creatures, live rock, coral etc... The puppies look very happy and are in very large rooms. The smell was a bit strong but honestly the pens were pretty clean.

Follow up: I've since been shopping at this store and had the chance to speak to numerous staff members. All were very helpful. Ron and Nick specifically really knew their stuff about african's. They helped me get my aquarium setup and our fish are doing spectacular. I'm going back today for more fish. Oh and Ron had the opportunity to go over their renovations and aside from the general huge expansion he's also installing a state of the art ventilation system for the puppy center and the whole section will be a self contained area. Great job. Highly recommend this place. The nay sayers are either old reviews or are sorely mistaken.

I went there to buy some fish for my 20 gallon tank. The staff suggested fish that would grow to be 7-8 inches long claiming that "fish will grow to the size of the tank"! Which is not true. I will not be coming back here anytime soon

I have been a customer of this store for almost 10 years. I was originally drawn to the store for its awesome fish department. Their staff are very knowledgeable, capable and caring. I especially like dealing with Chuck and Nick. A couple of years ago I had my wife with me and while I was in the fish department she was visiting the puppy's. Yes we did smell the puppys when we entered the store but it was by no means overwhelming. Upon inspection of their area we found it to be very clean with fresh bedding and plenty of fresh water. To make a long story short, despite the horror stories you hear about buying dogs in a pet store, THIS STORE does not fall into that category. We were told who the breeders were and we were so impressed with the quality of the dogs that we bought 2 on that day. Its been 2 years and we are still very happy with our decision. I have recommended many friends to this store and I know that there are many other happy customers as a result of the stores high Quality in both animals and customer service. I am happy to give this review.

I haven't been back in awhile, but every time I've been, the store has really smelled. I'm sure every pet store has some odor, but I've found this store to be really stinky and it could be because the dogs are kept right in the middle of the store, instead in a separate area.

I have to admit, when I pulled into the parking lot, I was a bit apprehensive. But was definitely quite impressed with the store when I entered. They have a modest selection of supplies for all types of animals. The puppies were in several nice glass enclosures mixed together so they could interact, and they all seemed quite content romping around with each other. I do admit I drove an hour to get there just for the fish, so regarding their aquarium department; I was quite impressed. They had a very large selection of freshwater fish. And compared to most pet stores and even aquarium stores, their saltwater selection was quite nice. Lots to choose from. I did buy a 6 line wrasse, who after quarantine, is doingly nicely in my tank. Anyone intersted in finding a new fish store, has to check out them out. I will be returning today to look around some more, and thought that everyone should know about this place. Highlyl recommend going and seeing all they have to offer.

PROS: Wonderful aquarium selection and I love how the puppies are kept
CONS: The outside of the building may scare people away

They have a wide selection of something for every animal. Their bird room is a little cramped but their fish and puppy sections are really enviable. They have a huge assortment of freshwater fish but a modest selections of salt water creatures. They puppies for which the stores is named after are not kept in horrible metal cages with wire under their feet but instead kept in air conditioned big glass rooms where they can interact with each other and have lots of shredded paper on which to sleep and play. Prices are pretty reasonable as well.
