If you have a choice for which hospital in the area to have a baby, choose L&M in New London. I have visited other woman who had babies in other nearby hospitals and none even compare to L&M's maternity ward.

Each time I delivered at Lawrence & Memorial was different in my own anxieties and knowing what to expect, but the staff's excellence was the same.

The rooms are very large and nice. They even have special tiles on the ceilings if you need a focus spot. It doesn't feel like a hopital room and everything happens in one room so you are not moved all about. The food service is like room service at a hotel. You call an order whatever you want from the menu, whenever you want from 7 to 7. The food is good, but if you are hungry order a lot, portion size is small, especially after labor when you are super hungry.

The best part of the maternity ward at this hospital is the nursing staff. Of course my doctor is affiliated there and is excellent but the nurses make the hospital.
The admission process is done right on the ward while you are being monitored so you don't have to wait, uncomfortable and possible embarrassed in any kind of waiting room. You are admitted by a nurse who really cares about the woman checking in and is as gentle and supportive as possible. The delivery nurses offer words of encouragement and have lots of ways to help through the process. You feel secure in their knowledge and experience. My last delivery nurse was so supportive and really put me at ease in a very difficult situation.

The baby has their own nurse too, who really shows that she cares about each newborn. After delivery the nurses are fabulous again, from the first time when I was unsure of myself and they offered assistance every step of the way, to the last time when I was very confident and they were just there to care for you and the baby.

I love this hospitals nursing staff and I have recommended it several times to friends and strangers.

PROS: Nursing staff is Wonderful, caring. Food Service like Room Service
CONS: None
