.

Ten Thousand Villages sells handcrafts made by Third World artisans and pays them fairly for their work. This makes the items more expensive, but allows you to buy things with a clearer social conscience. Some of the items are not as good of quality, but there are some excellent gifts to be found, including some very beautiful and reasonable jewelry. The store also carries a full line of the Putumayo world music CDs, and offers excellent free coffee to people browsing. They carry items such as handbags, scarves, children's toys, pottery, wooden chairs, jewelry, and even kites. Staff are friendly and helpful.

This is a great store for unique gifts or things for the home from around the world. Some of the profts from their sales go back to the people who made the products, and they have information about different campaigns to help people in developing countries.

You can find everything from African masks to children's toys. They also have a selection of free-trade coffee, tea, and chocolates. All of the products are relatively expensive, but at the same time the producers are getting a fairer share of the profit.
