Great little restaurant undergoing some kind of Renaissance, freshly painted, throngs OUT the door almost every night. Honest food, fairly priced, seems to appeal to people in 2011.

Run by a young Italian family who create dishes my mother, who is 90 years old and Sicilian borne, could find NO fault with. My spouses mother who is 94 and can find fault with EVERYTHING, absolutely raves about Avellinos (all the way down in Florida, thank god!)

At Avellino's It's all good. Red sauces, veal, house-made pastas, bread from Arthur Avenue, straightforward presentation and fast, solicitous service. Things can get backed up in the kitchen in the heat of a packed house on a Saturday night, but lunches are a dream

The layout is such that on busy nights, it IS a bit noisy, but not overly so. Tables are close together, but I never hesitate to bring the wife or have a business meeting there. Nobody can hear, but more to the point, everybody else is having fun too, so, its a good noise!

Try it, or go online and sign up for their email club. They are doing all kinds of special sweepstakes, Win Dinner for 4, Bottles of Andy Warhol Dom Perignon, all kinds of fun stuff to keep people coming in.

Given the utter pretentiousness of most Italian places in Fairfield, I find this approach; family-run, fun and accessible to be really enjoyable!

I have lived in Fairfield for nearly fifteen years, and just found out about Avellino's through a friend last year. The food is terrific, the staff are always welcoming, professional and attentive. The specials are interesting and have yet to disappoint. Owner Peter Del Franco has done a tremendous job keeping the menu fresh and the quality at the highest level. A truly remarkable feature of this restaurant is it's ability to accommodate business dinners and family meals without missing a beat. The wine list is solid with very good choices at a variety of price points plus nice wines available by the glass. One recent addition to the menu I have enjoyed is the creative selection of individual pizzas -white pizza with shrimp scampi is unreal - for a change of pace or when out with the family. The room can be lively especially when crowded weekend nights. Reservations are a must when planning to go Thurs, Fri or Saturday nights. Outdoor seating is also a plus in good weather. Don't wait fourteen years to find this place!

My family and I (a family of 9 with my sisters and there children) had reservations for 5:30pm on a Friday night. When we arrived, there were two other families and ours. The atmosphere was not quiet and we were fine with that.

While waiting for our food, our children were eating bread and one of them decided to yell something. We quickly handled the situation with our son but to our utter shock, the owner walked over to the other children at the table and asked them to be quiet and accused them of screaming. We corrected him and he proceeded to walk to the other end of the table and under his breath he stood there and made rude comments about the behavior of the children and that his children were far better behaved than this.

I am very aware of others when dinning out with young children and I keep a very close eye on there behavior, but I could not believe this happened due to one child yelling one quick word.

Mind you, the other table had an infant screaming most of the time.

Apparently he said something to them as well.

It goes without saying that I will never give a dime to this business again.

To the owner: next time politely tell a parent at the table your feelings and don't ever think you have the right to say something to a child of someone else??s.

Great wine, great food. Usually busy, reservations are usually a good idea. It's a block or so past the Borders, so parking is hit or miss, and the place is always WARM.

But that aside, I can say I've never had a bad meal here. Pricey, but not outrageous for a once-in-awhile night out. Try the veal... whatever way you like it, theirs is among the best I've ever had.

Great food. Tables right on top of one another and service was poor. Don't go there and discuss anything confidential. Took forever for appetizer to come out, which was delicious (Caprese salad.)
