My 8yr old battery died this morning and I need to get to work, I call my insurance and had a jump. While waiting for insurance co. I looked up service stations in my area and the franchises all had bad reviews and I also had mad experiences in the past with i.e. Firestone and Midas. This place called Tech Auto had great reviews so I called them at 8:15am to see if they had a battery for my vehicle and if they could install asap. The owner said come on in and gave me directions. My first impression was poor signage and the customer area was not impressive BUT who gives a crap as long as they do good work, as all the reviews I read said. The owner and was very informative and tended to the customers needs. He had a new battery installed in about 15 minutes and I was off to work. Thanks Todd and also Thanks to your mechanics.

I'm one happy parent thanks to Tech Auto. My son is a student at Quinnipiac who drives a 2000 Volvo. Tech Auto has taken excellent care of his car for the past 2 years. Volvo repairs can be insane but these guys really get it- they're reasonable, efficient and nice. My son's recent repair could have cost a lot. TA didn't hit him up with a Volvo replacement part but repaired the broken part on site. Go there..you'll be happy with the results.

I have been going to Tech Auto for over 5 years. The very first time I went there, I saved $2700 over the estimate of the dealer. Excellent, knowledgeable mechanics, honest as can be, only do what needs to be done. Hard workers. They are busy, so call first before you bring in your car, they have a lot on their plate, what with being honest AND good at what they do.

I used insiderpages to find a local repair shop to replace my wearing down brakes and found good ratings for this and 4 other shops. I called all for estimate and my first impression on the phone was the best at this place so I figure I'd try them out.

1st impression of the shop:
They are hidden from the main road, just drive down the long driveway under the highway bridge. Signs are not huge. It was dirty, and not well ventilated (keep in mind that this is mid-march which did not allow them to keep the garage doors open). The customer service area is small and dirty. You have full visual of the service area with no walls, which is good in that you can see what's happening, but bad in that the fumes and noises are also there. There was 1 chair and 1 stool for customer's use, so it's not great to stay long to wait for your car. But having it open you can readily ask the servicemen questions. Everyone treats the customers professionally. Though, they should have a service bell. When I first went in I was waiting for a bit since the owner did not arrive yet and the other techs were already busy on other cars. A tech did come to me eventually.

As I did end up waiting for my car. The part was not onsite, but they got it quick and I did not have to return. Considering the wait for the part, it was quite fast and efficient. I was able to notice their interactions with each other and clients. They were wonderful with the clients, recommending options that other shops probably would readily jump at recommending just to gain some cash. They treated both male and female customers with the same respect and suggestions. The owner was very knowledgeable and his techs all respected his knowledge and asked him for his opinion without hesitation.

I ended up not requiring rotors replaced.

Summary:
Great honest and efficient service, but dirty environment. I can still taste the fumes for being in there for about an hour to an hour and a half.
I recommend bringing your car in early (they open at about 8), since they do have quite a bit of customers coming and going. If you choose to stick around, I suggest your bring sneakers and walk on the Farmington Canal Trail right outside their parking lot. or walk to the shops nearby. :) I will definitely go there again and try a harder problem.

I am torn between giving a 4 or 5-star since my repair was more maintenance than repair, so I do not have enough interactions with them yet. I'll just consider the glass-half full... :)

I was referred to Tech Auto after I had gone to my Jeep dealer about a brake problem. Now mind you, the Jeep dealer had put in new brakes the following year. And they were no good one year and one month later. Now part of that is the fault of this awful liquid chemical salt used on our roads in the winter...my advice to everyone is wash the undercarriage of your car regularly in winter. But the Jeep dealer wanted another $1000 to change the brakes. Tech Auto replaced the brakes in a day...they had to cut them off they were so badly corroded. The cost was less than half the dealer.

Go to Tech Auto. You'll be glad you did.

I was referred to Tech Auto by a friend who heard my tale of woe after I took my car to a big-name franchise shop for a simple brake job and was nearly pressured into spending $600 on other "urgent" work. Todd did the same work for under $200, and he didn't make me feel stupid for asking questions about my car. In fact, he was happy to bring me the part that needed replacing and show me exactly what was wrong with it.

That was five years ago, and I've been taking my car to Tech Auto ever since. Their estimates are right on, and they take the time to explain exactly what they need to do to fix my car. They also differentiate between high-priority repairs and things that, depending on my budget, can wait. (That's important for me -- I'm a student.) They work quickly despite being extremely busy, and they are always very personable.

To put it simply, Todd and the guys at Tech Auto are the best mechanics I've ever had.

PROS: Quality service, low prices, very honest, fantastic mechanics!
CONS:

Todd and the guys at Tech Auto are amazing. These are the smartest and most honest mechanics I've ever used. They are really good with older cars, and they don't overcharge.
